Oo!
Night of the Howling Dogs I don't know who it's by, but it's really good! XD No bad language or anything - it's pretty much PG, except for the violence. It's about this group of scouts that goes camping near a volcano, and then after a pair of dogs are heard howling, there's DISASTER! > It's really good!

Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry[u]- It's really good, it won a Newberry Award and it's written by Mildred Taylor. It's about a girl having to deal with racism and other simular serious issues.

I think Lord of the Rings is an Epic series for those looking for medieval action. You should add that.

Oh, I've got another good one.
A Friend at Midnight I think this is a Christian book, but it's not totally so; you could read it whether you're religious or not. It's about this girl who hates her dad because he totally rejected his son; he basically kicked him out on the streets.

Re: Recommended books! :D
If you're looking for a really long series to read, there's like 4 sections of this one! There's Sweet Valley Kids, for lower reading level, Sweet Valley Twins, 10-12 year olds, Sweet Valley High, teens, and Sweet Valley University, teens and up! I read all of them like 2 years ago, [when I was 10] so the age things are just kind of general, but it should keep you busy! There's a LOT of them! lol! Also, the Trixie Beldon series is good too! One I thought was really good and got me thinking was The Song of the Sparrow! Those are just some I thought of off the top of my head!

A Song for Summer - Eva Ibbotson
I suggest this for about 12 or 13 and older. And I don't know if guys would be too interested in it.
