Pippin's Mishap *finished*
Haha, I wrote this two years ago for school. XD It's based on . . . well, you'll see. (I've edited it a bit, though.) After this, check out Pippin's Precious, the play based on this!
Maturity: Skeletons and death.
Fantasy: Evil orby thing.
I'm sure we all wonder about what I'm speaking of. Do you remember the scene in Lord of the Rings III where Pippin grabs the palantir? Well, what would have happened if he hadn't let go? I have taken the risk of finding out for you - read on to uncover the mystery. The story is being told through the eyes of Merry.
We were all sleeping in the room. Except Aragorn and Legolas - they were keeping watch outside. I woke up to a creaking, it sounded like someone was creeping about in there. I was scared - I thought someone had come in to burglarize us. Peering out from beneath my blanket, who should I see but dear old Pippin. He was sneaking quietly towards Gandalf.
"Pippin, what are you doing?!" I whispered. "Pippin!"
"I just want another look at it," he said. "Just one last look."
But that was the dark wizard's orb. It could be his last look ever!
"Pippin, don't!" i said. He took no notice, continuing towards Gandalf. But upon reaching the white wizard, he jumped, for Gandalf's eyes were open. Thank goodness! But then, there was a loud snore - Gandalf apparently slept with his eyes open.
Pippin took the orb, wrapped in a cloth, and placed a pitcher in Gandalf's arms instead. He started again when Gandalf mumbled something in his sleep, embraced the jar tightly, and kissed it. Pippin breathed a sigh of relief when Gandalf didn't wake up, then quickly took the orb back to where he'd been sleeping.
"Pip, put it back!" I said, crawling over to where he was kneeling. Pippin unwrapped the orb. I avoided looking directly at it once he did, but that foolish hobbit just stared deep into the orb. He lifted it up closer to his face, and suddenly, it began to glow. An orangish light swirled up from the center, and as I watched his face, Pippin began grimacing. When nearly the whole orb was lit, he started thrashing about on the floor.
"Pippin?!" I shouted in alarm. "Pippin!" He'd just started screaming, when Aragorn and Legolas rushed in. "Somebody help him, please!" I wailed.
I raced over to Gandalf and tried to rouse him, but he mumbled, "Five more minutes," and rolled over.
Aragorn slipped in his hurry, and landed flat on his face. He tried getting up, but groaned and collapsed again. Legolas tripped over the man, and hurtled into the wall. His next movement was crashing to the floor - and he didn't move.
At this point, I had to do something, so I kicked the palantir from Pippin's hand. It flew across the room and shattered against the ground. The crash finally woke Gandalf, who rushed over to where Pippin was laying on the floor. Gandalf took his hand - and then all Pippin's skin crumbled away, leaving nothing but a moldy, yellow skeleton.
I screamed, and ran away into the night. When I reached the cliff, I leapt off to the sea below.
And so, the hobbit who told you this is nothing but a ghost.
