- A glass vase shattered on the floor right beside her as she stood backed up against the wall, the angry eyes of Tristan staring down at her. She slowly brought her hand up to her bleeding forehead, lowering her gaze. "I... I'm sorry," she whispered to him in the quietest voice possible, not even sure what she did that made him so frustrated. Then again, it was Tristan she was dealing with, and that was enough of a reason for her. Against her better judgement, she shifted her gaze so that her eyes were now locked with his. Her face grew frightened as his hand reached out, and she was almost sure that he would hit her or something like that. She breathed in, staying silent as his hand gently moved a strand of her hair behind her ear, and with that, he turned around and began walking away.
- She didn't move just yet. Part of her was afraid that he would come back if she tried to go somewhere, but eventually, after he had disappeared, she stepped slowly towards the back door, twisting the handle as quietly as she could and edging the door open. A few moments later, she was outside, running towards the only place she could feel safe - or, well, pretend that she was. She let out a heavy sigh of relief as she reached the clearing, slowing her pace as she approached it. The forest behind Tristan's house was filled with trees, except for this one part. She sat down beside a large tree, leaning on it as tears filled her eyes.

Felix was wandering through the forest, his eyes on a small clearing somewhere near the middle. He had stumbled upon it before, as a young boy, and he was intent on finding it again. His dark brown eyes followed the well-worn trail, looking for the end where he would turn into the grove of trees and find what he was looking for. The clearing that used to hold all the answers, but now held only questions. The biggest one being where was it.
After a few hours, he found the split in the trail. Instead of going right or left, he walked straight ahead into the trees for about ten minutes, eventually coming upon the clearing. The trees had grown taller, he noticed, as he looked around the clearing with happiness. He had been searching for years, trying to find the place he once thought was magical. At seventeen, he now knew it wasn't, but that didn't stop him from smiling as his eyes fell on his favorite tree. The problem was there was already someone against it.
"Um... hello?" Felix approached the human form quietly, his shoes crunching the leaves under the soles. He realized that the human was a girl, and she was crying. "Are you okay?"

- She enjoyed it out here, she realized, as she pulled a strand of her hair back behind her ear. It almost made her forget what had just happened, forget about Tristan. She leaned her head back against the tree, running her hand across the tip of the sundress she was wearing. It was cold out, and she almost wished she had grabbed a sweater before coming out here, though she knew that if she tried, she would run ito Tristan again, which wouldn't have been good.
- She looked up, startled, as she heard the voice. "Um... hello? Are you okay?" the guy said. She scanned her face, realizing she had never seen him around here before. She got up quickly, straightening her dress. "Yeah, I'm fine," she responded with a nod, knowing it was a lie, but what was the point in letting him know that? He could probably already tell, though, that she was a mess, considering the blood that was probably still lingering on her forehead.

Felix smiled, tilting his head slightly. "Are you lying?" He asked very quietly, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. He remembered that this had been the place where he had found answers so long ago, and maybe that was the same for her. Or maybe he had just found an answer right now. He yanked himself back to the present, looking into the girl's eyes. They looked to mature for her, as if she had gone through things nobody should.
"This used to be where I found answers. Is that why you're here?" He asked ever so gently, and then regretted it. "I'm sorry. You don't have to answer that. I shouldn't be nosy." He ran a hand through his hair, ruffling it ever so slightly. The light breeze danced in his hair, and he smiled to himself, brushing it out of his eyes. "I'm Felix, by the way. And you?" The light sparkled in his eyes as the edges crinkled with his smile.

- Erika shook her head when he asked her if she was lying. She opened her mouth to speak, though he beat her to it. "This used to be where I found answers. Is that why you're here?" he asked her. She considered this for a moment, and then responded with a shrug, saying, "I... I guess you could put it that way." She saw him smile, and couldn't help but return it with a small, half hearted grin.
- So, she couldn't really trust him - it seemed as if she couldn't trust anyone these days. Either way, she thought it couldn't hurt to introduce herself. "I'm Erika," she told him, tilting her head to the side slightly. "Are you from here?"

Felix grinned wider. "Yes. I've lived here my whole life." He put his hands in his pockets awkwardly, not exactly knowing what to say next. It occured to him that her forehead was bleeding, and he pulled a hankerchief from his front pocket. "You're bleeding, you know." He whispered, dabbing at Erica's forehead with the cloth. She looked about his age, but her eyes gave her away- they looked older, as if she had experienced something nobody her age should.
Felix gripped his wrist as he did when he was nervous, seeing a house in the distance. "Is that where you live?" He realized that he was talking to much and instantly regretted it, so he decided to be quiet and let her speak for once. Naturally, he looked down at the ground, tracing odd patterns with the top of his shoe.

- As he dabbed at her forehead with his handkerchief, she couldn't help but begin to back away- she wasn't one for physical contact, even if it was as little as this. "Yes, I realize that," she said, responding to his comment about her bleeding, letting out a quiet chuckle, and then added, "I tripped on my way over here." It was a lie, though she knew that anything would be better than the cold truth; that the scar that was going to form over the next few days was all caused by Tristan.
- Her gaze traveled his to her house. Well, Tristan's house that he "so kindly" let her live in. She nodded, turning back to Felix. "Yes, I live there with a family friend," she told him, regretting it right after the words escaped her lips. A "yes" could have been a perfectly acceptable answer, but no - she always had to keep on talking, she realized with a frown.

He smiled, a charming half-smile that crinkled the edges of his eyes. "That's nice that they let you stay there. What's his name? I might know him from school." He cursed himself again for asking to much. He really did have to stop that. He glanced past her to see a guy walking through the woods, an angry look on his face. "This a friend of yours, Erika?" He asked, smiling in Felix's direction. "I just met her." Felix clarified, nodding towards him.
"Okay. I'm Tristan Garthin. We live up there." He pointed to the house Felix had mentioned earlier, and he smiled. "That's nice that you let her stay with you." Tristan let out a laugh. "We've been friends for years, so it's really nothing." He shrugged. "Still, it's nice. Anyway, hope to see you around Erika." He turned back towards the trees he had come from, the half-smile still on his face.

- She shifted uncomfortably, biting her lip. "That's nice that they let you stay there. What's his name? I might know him from school." Felix said to her. She hesitated for a moment, not sure what she should say. "Yeah, uh, his name is Trist-" she was cut off by the sound of footsteps, and turned around to see Tristan approaching them. Dangit. She looked up at him, a frightened look crossing her face. She watched with fear as the two conversed, desperately hoping that he wouldn't mention anything about, well, how exactly they lived.
- Erika frowned as Felix turned to leave. She let out a quiet, "Bye." as he walked away. She then glanced up at Tristan, the frown still on her face. "I... I'm sorry," she said to him, lowering gaze.

Tristan turned back slightly, just to make sure Felix wasn't watching or listening. Since he seemed to be strolling along, not really listening, Tristan let go of Erika's hand and took her arm, gripping it tightly and digging his fingernails into her arm. "Why did you leave?" He asked, starting to drag her along the forest ground. "You know you're not allowed to leave without my permission. Did I tell you that you could go into the forest?" His tone was cold.
"I don't want you to get hurt." His face and tone softened. "So start telling me where you go, do you understand?" His voice hardened as he grabbed both her wrists and forced her against a nearby tree. He took her head, gripping her forehead with one hand, and pushing it against the rough bark. "I said, do you understand?!"

- For a moment, Erika was almost wishing that Felix would suddenly decide turn around and see what Tristan was doing to her. Maybe then he could find someway to help her. She knew that wasn't going to happen, though, and then realized it would be better if he just continued on his way. After all, she didn't really want him - let alone anyone - to know what Tristan did to her.
- With her head shoved roughly against the tree, it was hard to look at him, but she managed to do it anyway. Slowly, her eyes traveled up to meet his angry gaze. Now he wanted to know where she was going every time she left the house? That would probably mean not going to the clearing anymore, considering he would never let her go there and if she did find a way to escape, he would probably know that he could find her there. "I said, do you understand?!" he repeated in a cold voice, interrupting her thoughts. She nodded her head hesitantly, quietly responding with, "Yes... I understand perfectly."

Tristan nodded, yanking her back up and walking towards the house. "Good. I hate repeating myself." He pulled her arm faster, forcing her towards the house. "Now, when we get back, clean up the mess you made when you broke the vase. If you do that okay, we can watch a movie." His voice, face, and tone were softening as they approached the house, as if he was afraid his parents would see and hear what was going on. As he walked into the house, he stopped gripping her arm and took her hand again.
"Mom, I found Erika. She was in the forest- she told me she got lost." He shot Erika a look to tell her to not blow this. "We're going to clean up the mess and then watch a movie, okay?" He started walking towards the broken vase, grabbing a broom and dustpan on the way. "You start here, and I'll get the movie started." He said, and then added in a rushed whisper. "Got it?" And without a word, he walked to the living room to get the movie up.

- There were no words to describe how much she hated Tristan. She narrowed her eyes at him but immediately looked away, knowing that if he saw that, she would be dead in a few seconds. She nodded slowly as he told her to clean up the mess and handed her the broom. As she heard him walking away, she began cleaning up the glass, throwing it all into the trash and then leaving the broom by the counter.
- She didn't want to face him again, but she knew she would have to. She closed her eyes, straightening her dress, and then, with a sigh and a shrug of her shoulders, stepped through the kitchen door and out into the hallway, opening her eyes. She strolled towards the door to the living room where Tristan was setting up the movie. She didn't know what they were watching and frankly, didn't even care. "Hey, Tristan," she greeted him, walking over to the couch with a half-hearted grin on her face. She knew the drill; the two always acted like best friends, or were supposed to, whenever his parents were him.
