I love the drums. If I did any other instrument other than cello that would be it.

Re: Instrument?
Well... Here's my reasoning.
Guitar- If you're into rock, or country, it can be the star of the show. It's fun to be the spotlight from time to time. I'm picking this up real soon myself. I think it'd also be fun to show off your fancy tricks that can be hard on some of the other instruments suggested. A problem could be the callouses I hear people pick up from playing, and it's a lot of finger work with the six strings (for me it's a lot of finger work for five on Guitar Hero, so I can imagine six, xD)
Piano- Again, if you like the spotlight, the piano can be a leading role in just about any genre of music, and suits just about anything. This is another one of those instruments where you can show off your talents and have people drop their jaws in awe--well, at least we do that in choir when my friend plays. xD But again, a lot of finger work!
Drums- This seems like a very easy thing to play as long as you're strong enough to make a real big blast, and even then sometimes it's not necessary. By the looks of it, as long as you know how to keep a beat, it shouldn't be too hard to play. And everybody needs the drums, even a capella groups (they claim they use no instruments, but usually they have something keep the beat). Speaking of a capella and the parenthesis thing, guitarists tend to not consider drums an instrument just to annoy the drummer, so be prepared for that kind of thing if you join a band. Also, even if everybody needs the drums, they tend to linger in the background.
Bass- You probably already know this is very similar to the guitar. The main differences are it's lower and there are four strings versus six. My dad says it's very easy to play, but hard to play well. That being said, unless you practice a lot and do play well, I dunno if this would be one of those instruments where you could go out and have people staring at you in awe, although it could be. And with the low sound, you're not often the spotlight either. There's people out there who think no one needs the bass--like Gri --so if you're planning to be in the band, know the bass isn't in high demand. But know there are people out there like me who think the bass is awesome!
I dunno if my reasoning helped at all, but I hope it did. xD Anyway, my votes went to Guitar, Piano and Bass--or at least Bass would've if I'd remembered to check it... xPPP...

Re: Instrument?
Thanks peoples!
And Cyn, yours helped alot xD If anything, I'll most likely learn all at some point in time (I'm one of those people who likes to be able to do more then one thing in a subject. Like in Chorus, I can sing Alto, Tenor, and sometimes Soprano. Working on Bass now.)
So far, two for Guitar, one for drums, one for piano, and even if its not there, one for bass.

Re: Instrument?
I say guitar, because it's a lot of fun, so classic, and you can play contemporary songs with it.
Re: Instrument?
Guitars are wonderful. They are fun and you can play lots of songs on them.
Be warned, though. It is a little painful at first. Pressing on the strings after a while leaves your fingers sore. x)

Wowzers, that's good! The funny thing with guys in my choir is last year they were either soprano/alto or baritone/bass, but then they all dropped out but one, and he's the one pure soprano. xD

Re: Instrument?
Go either Guitar, Piano, or Drums.
Guitar has advantages, 'cause it's an important instrument, and kinda fun, if you actually known how to play. If you know chords and stuff, you can use those to make a guideline for a song's music.
Piano is pretty awesome. It's the very basics. If you learn piano, you can probably play anything else. Or not. It's good to know piano, but there's not much to do with it, except mess around. At least for me.
Drums, or as pros could call it, percussion (Even if you don't play anything but drums) are/is nice. Once you pick up the talent for. . . just knowing how to create a beat, it's fun. But normally, drummers in rock bands are sort of outsider-ey. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't do it, 'cause every band needs someone to teach those wimpy guitars that they're not the only ones in the band. But if your parents are gonna spoil you and buy you a drumset, then don't even think about it. Ever.
And nobody cares about bass. In most songs, I barely know it's there. Only if the opportunity comes to you should you use/learn/hire bass. Don't go out of your way for it.

Re: Instrument?
On the contrary, whenever I'm lazy hanging around in my bedroom, my sister is either blaring the speakers of her computer or the TV, and not only is the bass the only thing I can hear, but it shakes my bed. xD And I like the bass myself. Everything else I agree with, though. And nobody cares about bass. In most songs, I barely know it's there.

But don't trust my word on it. You know how freakishly mentally ill my brain is.

Re: Instrument?
I don't have as profound advice as the other son this thread, but I'd go with piano. It's a good base to get started with instruments, singing or anything musical. If you ever want to do percussion in the future, piano would help you get used to doing several rhythms at a time. Besides, everyone I know who plays piano rocks at the instrument they play in band. But guitar would be a good second choice, because if you're looking at a singing/songwriting career, then guitar's essential unless you want to have other people play it for you.

I'm most likely learning Guitar, Piano or Bass, then drums. Haha, me and my friend Will were talking about learning bass at the same time, and then when I learned the other instruments we'd play the same instruments x3

I said piano because it's so much fun for me and I thought maybe you'd enjoy it too (: It's an amazing feeling to just play it... I don't know... I can't explain, I guess. XD I just love it. It makes me happy.
Playing on a nice, new piano is so cool, too. The keys are all smooth and you can press lightly on them.. None of the keys stick.., *wistful sigh*
..
AHEM.
Anywhooo

Re: Instrument?
Yeah, same here. I kinda have two pianos, though. One's a keyboard, and one of the keys is really dysfunctional 'cause my sister stepped on it really really hard when she was two and now it's crud. xP
The other one is a 100-year-old grand piano my dad intends to bring upstairs at some point. All I know is it's old.

Re: Instrument?
We've got a piano that's like a tall box part in the back, and the keys are on the front. It's not grand.
I want a keyboard, 'cause the keys are so easy to press, and you can choose different instruments to use on them most times.
