Michael: "I dunno. Rocks are cool." I smiled. "I found a rock collection I had when I was like 10 in my room the other day." I took the rock off my head and started playing with it again.

Michael: I took the rock and put it in my pocket, smiling to myself. It was going in my collection later. "If you want, I can show you sometime." I turned my head a little so she was just in my line of vision; I wanted to see her reaction.

Michael: I smiled back. I didn't know anyone else I could trust with viewing my rock collection. I felt like she was the only one who wouldn't laugh at me. "Do you collect anything?" I asked.

Lena: I laughed. "Probably not. See, when I was little, I told Linda that there was something called the sock fairy, that stole your socks in the wash. She didn't believe me, so I started stealing socks from the dryer. By the time I stopped when I was maybe seven, I had probably a hundred socks. They're still hidden at the back of my closet."
