((Hehe, sorry it's taken me so long to get back to ya. XP I've been having a lot of writerly things going on lately.))

Hearing his name, Matsuda came running. "I'm right here, Misa Misa!" he cheerily said. For someone working on such a case, you might not expected him to have had such a happy temperament.

Hoping that maybe Matsuda could entertain Misa for a while, Light risked giving Ryuzaki his full attention. "That's true . . . anything could have happened. But before we do anything, we need to figure out why the killings have stopped. That's the reason behind everything." You need to think of a lie, quickly now, a good reason for them stopping . . . without admitting the truth.

((I don't know exactly what this truth would be, though. tongue Do we wanna say that he's just stopping the killings because there's nothing to gain from killing at the moment?))

[[Sure! I couldn't think of anything clever to come-back.]]

Misa smiled as she saw Matsuda. "Matsu! You have to take me shopping!"

Ryuzaki frowned slightly, taking a handful of white and dark chocolates, stuffing them in his mouth. He chewed and opened his mouth to speak. "Kira stopped the killings for one to two reasons- he hasn't gained any entertainment or handed his power down."

. . . shopping? Horrified, Matsuda cast a glance towards Ryuzaki and Light, but neither of them were paying any attention to him. Oh great . . . Um, sure, shopping! Sounds great!” he agreed, trying to continue sounding eager.

Hasn't gained any entertainment? Light thought. Well, I don't know if it's fair to call that the reason, and Kira definitely hasn't handed down his power . . . but Ryuzaki came up with it himself, so it wouldn't be odd if I were to agree with either of those ideas.

. . . Though, what if he's testing me again? Because the ideas are both obviously wrong. The question is, does Ryuzaki know that?

"There's a fair chance," Light agreed, donning a thoughtful expression. "Out of those two reasons, I'd suspect it more likely that Kira handed his power down - after all, entertainment doesn't seem to be a main motivator for him. But . . ."

Misa let go of Light as she spoke. "Great! We need to go to...." she listed all of the stores, one by one. "Did you write those down?"

Does he not realize I'm testing him? He probably does....it's not that obvious that I am.

"Umm . . ." Write it down? You'd think shopping is an organized sport . . . "Yeah, yeah, I got it," Matsuda lied, hoping she wouldn't notice that he'd never even pulled out a notepad. "So - ah - let's go!" He wanted nothing more than to get this over with now, so the torture would just be behind him.

After a brief pause, Light spoke up again. "But I don't know, Ryuzaki. I don't think it's fair to assume those are the only reasons Kira isn't acting."

[[How about L stares at him AND admit he's testing?]]

Misa smiled, running off toward the entrance. "Matsu!" she called, motioning for him to follow.

Ryuzaki turned around and focused on Light, thinking. I'll admit to him that I was in fact, testing him. If he reacts uncalmly, he's probably not Kira. But...if he figured out that I was testing him.... His thoughts continued.

((Heehee, awesomeness. x3))

Why do I have to do it? Barely managing to keep distress from his face, Matsuda hurried after Misa. I guess I’m driving her . . . as usual . . . nng.So, Misa-Misa, which of the stores do you want to go to first?” he asked, forcing himself to laugh ‘light-heartedly.’

As silence stretched into the air, the wheels of Light’s mind started turning. So if he’s testing me . . . will he admit it. If he does, I obviously can’t react too strongly, or that gives me away. At least I’ve managed to keep my emotions in check this far along . . . it won’t be that hard.

What if he doesn’t admit it, though? If he isn’t testing me, that just makes everything easier. But if he is, that just means I’ll need to be extra careful. This is Light Yagami, after all . . . I can’t act too suspicious or he’ll wonder what I’m worrying about. But if I pretend not to notice, when it should’ve been obvious . . .

Or what if even testing me is a test? [Darn] it . . . there’s no way to figure it out. I’ll just have to do the best I can.

[[Isn't testing someone a test? Just sayin. XD]]

"We're going to...." Misa listed all of the stores in the order. "Those are in order, by the way."

"You see Light," Ryuzaki suddenly opened the yellow-brown banana. "I was in fact, testing you." And if you react with such suspicion my suspicions on you will be higher than ever.

((Yes. xD But Light's point there was that he's assuming L's merely testing him to see if he's Kira. But maybe there's an even bigger test . . . argh, I don't know how to explain it anymore, I lost the thought process. Kinda like, "I know he thinks I'm going to do that, so I'll do this. But wait . . . what if he knows I know, so he expects me to do this instead of that? I'll have to do that instead, then.))

"Ehhhh . . . okay," Matsuda got out. When they reached the car, he gulped before seating himself on the drivers side. But this'll take all day!

Well, that answers that. "I thought so, Ryuzaki," Light said, and let out a small sigh. No need to insist again that he wasn't Kira; he'd already made that point, and trying to make it again would do him no good. "I suppose now there's an even higher likelihood that I'm Kira?" The question was casual enough, though, and to further 'prove' his innocence, Light rolled his eyes and moved back towards the other computer.

[[Wow, that was one hilarious explanation. Don't ask why I'm laughing.....I don't know whats happening!!!]]

Misa eventually strided for the dark blue and black car, opening the back door seat and sitting down on the leather seats.

"Only by 5%." Ryuzaki replied, knowing it was 90% now. But Light didn't know that....or did he?

((Heehee, I'm glad it amused you. x3))

"So, um, Misa . . . how do we get to this first store here?" Matsuda asked sheepishly, pulling out onto the streets. If it was a reasonable store, like a grocery store, then he might've known the answer for himself. But Misa was a girl, and girls generally didn't go on huge shopping sprees at grocery stores.

"Mmhmm." Light didn't bother looking at Ryuzaki as he replied . . . as intrigued as he was in his own mind, he couldn't make that fact obvious. Sitting down at the computer, he continued doing his 'research.'

((So now this needs to go somewhere unusual. smug Something that wouldn't happen in any episode of Death Note but one that we made.))

((Heehee, excellent idea! x3))

Unthinkingly - and idiotically - Light pulled the Death Note out from beneath his shirt. This morning, he hadn’t intended to bring it to work . . . but Sayu came upon him suddenly - he’d forgotten to lock his door, you see - and he had nowhere else to hide it.

He reasoned he was safe enough just to look among the pages of the notebook for a moment. L wasn’t paying attention - right? - and none of the other police officers were nearby, or so he thought. Light needed to see if L knew of everyone he’d killed this morning . . .

Ryuzaki whipped arond in his chair instantly, hearing a faint rustle of paper. "You know, Light, it's not very nice to carve random words into some stupid book. Let me see it."
