Preface
My only hope was that I was alone. Hopefully my mom had not known my lie or my dad really came. Hopefully Elizabeth wouldn't follow. Hopefully I would escape, but that wasn't likely. I had figured it out; I wasn't going to survive this.
I still had hope though. As long as I had hope, maybe I could survive. But probably not. Hopefully....hopefully...hopefully...
Chapter One- New Student
I kissed my father goodbye. Even though Penelope was here, I knew he would miss me. "Robert, it's time for her to leave." Penelope gave me a little hug, and they both watched as I climbed aboard the plane and left the city of Pheonix.
As I reached Forks, I frowned. It was so... wet. And cold. Wow. Much to wet.
"Ben!" My mother, Catherine, gave me a hug. "Time to head home! Are you ready?" I nodded. "Yep."
We reached her house. Something- and someone- was waiting for us.
"Hi! I'm Jessi Black!" A dark girl stood in the shadows of the house. I walked over and smiled. "Ben Swan." She laughed. "Oh, I knew that. Our parents have been friends for years." I laughed with her. "Right." She pointed to the car in the driveway. "My old car." It was an okay-looking, rusty red truck. "Seriously?" She nodded. "Yep. It's yours." My face split into a grin. I grabbed her hand and dragged her to the truck, tripping in the process. “I’ve got to go… I'll see you later." She smiled, and jogged down the street.
"It's yours." My mom repeated. I smiled. "Thanks." I walked upstairs, carrying my stuff, almost ready for school the next day.
I went to my brand-new computer, bought just for this reason. My dad had already sent me an e-mail.
Ben,
Did you get there okay? How’s your mom? How rainy is it? Are you ready for school tomorrow? Penelope and I went to the restaurant on the hill today. We ate your favorite: blueberry pie. I’ll talk to you soon, Ben.
-Dad
I started typing a reply back.
Dad,
I’m here, and I’m fine. The plane ride was fine. Catherine’s fine- overjoyed, actually, that I’m here with her. I have no idea how rainy it is, but very, let’s just say that. I’m not quite ready, but almost.
Mom bought me a new truck; I’ll send pictures later.
-Ben
I sent the message, and wandered back downstairs. “Mom? Do you want dinner?” I walked into the kitchen. “Oh, Ben, you don’t have to cook.” She smiled. “No, really. I cooked a lot at home.” I smiled, trying to show her that it was true. “Oh, fine. Go on.” She smiled, and went back into the living room. Hearing the distinct sound of a soap opera, I laughed as one of the characters burst into fake tears.
“It’s ready Mom.” I put dinner on the table- homemade pizza. Hesitant, she lifted a piece and tested it. It must have been fine, because Catherine ate three pieces. I ate two, then went up to my room to set everything up.
My family had a decent income. Dad was a principal at the local school back in Pheonix, and Catherine was Chief of Police here in Forks. Penelope, my step-mom, was a baseball coach for a major league team. Basically, I had a pretty decent amount of money. Not ages and ages of it, but more than enough.
Which was why I had gotten a brand-new computer. It was sleek and silver, and had very high-speed internet. I started getting on my favorite websites and changing my e-mails, then chatting a bit. I had gotten a new private message from iGrievous on Twig.
Hey Ben. Did you like moving? I know you’re in Washington somewhere… rainy much? xD
I laughed slightly.
Of course it’s rainy, Gri. What do you expect? It’s okay, though, I guess. I miss Arizona.
I sent that, then started browsing the Clubs section. Getting bored, I logged out and went to sleep.
I got up early, quickly getting dressed. I took a deep breath as I walked downstairs to get ready. I had to stay calm. There were no mythical creatures at school. No one would bite me. I tried to convince myself. When I couldn't, I walked upstairs to brush my teeth.
I took another deep breath when I opened the door to the sound on the rain. Sighing, I pulled on my rain jacket and hopped in the truck. The rain sloshed the windshield, blurring the vision. I pulled over to the school and grabbed a spot. Gulping, my finger pulled the keys out of the admission and my truck stopped. Time to go.
I walked to the front office quietly, slipping in. "Hi! I'm Mr. Cope and you are?" The receptionist grinned. "Ben Swan." I mumbled, looking away. "Oh! Here's your schedule Benjamin." I blushed and took the papers. "Don't forget to get these signed by all your teachers." He reminded me, and I left. Yay, more embarressment.
Slowly, I entered my first class. The teacher- Miss Harper- signed my permission slip, and I managed to get to my seat without anything happening. The hard part was over. I just sat and waited.
I got through three more classes like that. And then, lunch started.
I sat with some guys from some class (I didn't know which), and a few girls. That's when I saw them.
Three girls and two boys, sitting alone, not eating anything on their trays. Looking away from each other, looking away from everything. But, all the same, ammazingly, inhumanly beautiful.
One of the guys was short, like, really short, with really strange hair. It was pitch black, jet black, and sticking out in all directions. The other guy was tall, with this perfect blond hair. It fell over his head, looking like a male model.
The girls were even more interesting. One had dark curly hair to her shoulders, and looked seriously athletic, like a basketball player or something. Another was tall and lean, with dark blond curls framing her face and falling to her waist. The last had long, straight hair, bronze colored, pulled into a ponytail, and windswept. They were all utterly amazing. Who were they?
