Suddenly, Eagleflight stiffened. She felt a pain in her belly, then blacked out.

"Eagleflight? Eagleflight!?" She screamed.

She didn't respond, just lied there, crumpled up.

Foxpaw called for Shrewstar. He came, and put his mate on his back, and carried her to camp.

Eagleflight remained limp the whole way.

Shrewstar checked her over. He tried every method there was.

Eagleflight began to breathe heavily. Her ribs were partially visible, showing she hadn't eaten in quite a while.

Foxpaw fetched some prey.

Eagleflight opened one eye. "Foxpaw, no. Keep that...away from me." she rasped. "Prey will do me no good."

She nudged the prey away. "Mom?"

"Yes sweetheart?" she choked.

"Ae you gonna be okay?"

"I'm not sure. My father died of this same disease."

"No!" She yelled. "You won't die!"

Eagleflight looked at her. "I'm sorry..."

"You won't! You can't!" She blubbered.

Eagleflight put her paw on Foxpaw's.

"No!"

"Foxpaw, I'll try to live for you and your father," she murmured.

"And for yourself!"
