Trapped in this cocoon,
There is no escape.
Pushing the walls closing in around me,
But they won’t break.
I brought this upon myself.
Who am I to blame?
Got caught up in the moment,
And now I am ashamed.
You begged you pleaded,
You tried to warn me.
I thought I knew best,
So I ignored your plea.
Too late to escape,
To veer off this course,
I must wait till the cocoon cracks and I emerge,
But will I be better or worse?
Some emerge a butterfly,
Worse before and now a beauty.
Others emerge a moth,
Better before and now ugly.
It may be time to hatch soon.
My thoughts are getting clear,
And I recognize my dilemma.
So I sit here and shed a tear.
The time is here,
Finally there is a crack.
The cocoon breaks,
But you’re not here for me to attack.
I realize the wrong I did before,
How I told you all those lies,
How I hurt your feelings.
I know you must have had some cries.
Look inside me,
Search my heart.
Was I mistaken before?
Did I play the wrong part?
So scared to hear your answer,
So scared that I broke free,
Now that I’ve changed,
Will you still me love me?
I don’t know what you will say
And I’m scared to see your face
Because I know you’ll have the answer
So I can only sit here and pace.
It feels like forever.
Time seems to be slowing,
But it has not changed much.
I know from watching the pendulum swinging.
Tick tock, tick tock.
I know you will be here soon,
You will be drawn
Like the tide to the moon.
Hear the twig break,
Footsteps on grass.
So scared to turn around
And find out that our love has passed.
Was I dreaming before,
And now I’m awake?
Was this love real,
Or was it all fake?
It’s so easy to imagine the latter.
How could someone like you love me
Especially after the way I treated you?
I turn around to face you and fall on my knees.
To see your face again,
It’s so good but so bad.
I wanna say “I’m sorry.”
I wanna say “Please don’t be mad.”
Is this all for real?
It’s so hard to believe when you look at me and smile,
You take my hand and pull me to my feet,
And I smile too because for you I’d walk a thousand miles.
I say to you, “Look inside me,
Search my heart.
Was I mistaken before?
Did I play the wrong part?”
One second can last a lifetime,
When you know what you are about to lose.
But you only pull me closer and say,
“Perhaps before but I still love you.”
Fantasy: I dunno.
