This 10/24-10/30 WCT is Preparing to Write!
Yup, you know what that means . . . only a week more (and a day) until the Nanowrimo begins!! For those who don't know, www.nanowrimo.org is a website where, during the month of November, thousands of writers from around the world come together and endeavor to write a whole novel of at least fifty thousand words in just thirty days. Why? For the fun of it! There's no prize, but it's a remarkable accomplishment, and I'm sure you'll feel proud of yourself when you win.
For those of you who have already signed up, congratulations! You're on the road to complete insanity! Isn't that great?! While you're waiting, here's a few tips to help keep yourself "in shape" for writing.
So, enjoy the WCT everyone, finish any last preparations for Nano, and may your pencils stay sharp. (Sorry I was a day late!)
For those of you who have already signed up, congratulations! You're on the road to complete insanity! Isn't that great?! While you're waiting, here's a few tips to help keep yourself "in shape" for writing.
- Plot out your novel. There's several people who choose to write blind, and of course, even when plotting different methods work best for different people. But I like to write down at least a basic plot, so I know where I'm headed - I write down where the story begins, where it ends, and I try to write down what the main plot is too. That way I have a loose guideline, so it's not like I'll get stuck and wonder what the whole point is, anyway. If you want to go a little more indepth, though (like I sometimes do xD), then try writing a loooong synopsis of it. It's kind of hard to explain how to do this; just describe the plot points in paragraphs, trying to keep it as undetailed as possible. Then you can maybe write a certain number of those plot points in every paragraph, or aim to write five a day, or something like that. (And for a guideline, the ones I wrote for Dragon Soul were three or four pages of binder paper, front and back, filled with three-or-four-line paragraphs. Maybe I'll share 'em sometime.)
- Work on an older story. That way, it won't come as so much of a burden to write so much so soon - you've already been writing every day! All you need to do is spend more time on the actual writing.
- Freewrite, and have word wars. Do this as much as possible. In freewriting, you just write whatever comes to your mind, non-stop, for a certain amount of time; it's a great way to see how you'll do during the Nano. And then, word wars are where you and an opponent (which can absolutely be someone online) free write for whatever amount of time, and whoever has the more words at the end wins. This is even better, and it's great practice for Nano!
- Talk to your family and friends about Nano. Sure, you can try and get them to participate; the more the merrier! But what I mean is, if you're really serious about the NaNoWriMo, then tell them that you're going to mainly be working on writing during November, so you might not have as much time for other things. That way, they'll know to kinda go easy on you. (But for your parents, try to ask them if they can be aware of that, rather than telling them; they totally dig respect. xD)
- Stock up on supplies. Packets of instant coffee, chocolate, cans of caffeinated soda, pencils, paper, an extra keyboard, a flash drive, pens, heat pads, a comfortable cushion, a sleeping mask, a really loud alarm clock, etc . . . okay, well, maybe you don't need all of that. xD But if you want something for your writing process, now's the time to get it, since you might not have the time for that during November.
- Keep a positive perspective! You're going to win, we all know you're gonna win, so why tell yourself you won't?
So, enjoy the WCT everyone, finish any last preparations for Nano, and may your pencils stay sharp. (Sorry I was a day late!)

Awesome I'm finishing my preparations (well, I'm half way through. Up until chapter 17 of planning out of 40 chappies. I've told myself I'll get to 20 chapters today, though.) How long is my plan? 6000 words.
Re: This 10/24-10/30 WCT is Preparing to Write!
Sweet! xD Good luck. At least it's a weekend, so I'm sure you'll have plenty of time to get that done.
That's one of the awesome coincidences, that Nano starts on Sunday. So school won't interfere with any plans to stay up all night and start asap, like I'm planning to do.

I was writing about the Holocaust and said "jealous" instead of "Jewish," I started talking to my friend about a class that she sits next to me in as if she wasn't there, I put alluminum foil in a microwave, I told someone I'd hurry home after school so I'd be there in time to babysit when they needed me on a Saturday....

I am! Almost. xD Um. I need to finish my plot for Falling (the second novel I wanna do), and I need to figure out how to pronounce La Tombé (or La Tombá, I forget which it was) and L'Airé.

I'm still working on my outline. So far I have everything planned up to chapter seven, and a few random bits and pieces have already been planned. XP

That's probably better than what I've plotted so far. xD For Falling, at least.
Re: This 10/24-10/30 WCT is Preparing to Write!
What's your goal for Falling? Are you doing more than one novel for NaNoWriMo?

Re: This 10/24-10/30 WCT is Preparing to Write!
Well, I thankfully got the plot done last night, so now I just need to research gargoyles and harpies. xD
And I'm not really sure if I'm doing more than one, but I think I am. The thing is, I have a really high goal; I'm planning to get in at least 10k every day. So this might make me finish the first novel I'd planned to write before the month is over, and so when I had this amazing dream, I decided I'd write about that if I did finish Desperate too soon. xD
Hey, you said you had seven chapters planned. Out of curiosity, how many are you aiming for total?
xD Nice Saddle. What exactly is MLIA?

I think I finished my 50th phase. I'd have a lot more if I wasn't slacking off all summer.

Re: This 10/24-10/30 WCT is Preparing to Write!
Wow, ten thousand words per day is a LOT. I would never be able to find the time. XD
Well, my goal is to write at least a chapter a day, so I would have about thirty. Along with those seven chapters, now I have the last few chapters, and most of my moments planned. All I really have left to do put the moments in order by chapter, and figure out some of the explainations for what is going on (the story involves time travelling). Normally, I wouldn't try to figure out the details right now, but I'm afraid that once I get to the parts, I'll be stuck and have a harder time reaching 50,000 words. If I somehow end up with extra time, I'm going to work on this novel that I started to write, but I got stuck and didn't have the motivation to finish.
Thanks for listening to me ramble on. XD
Just wondering, if you plan on writing 10,000 words per day, how many words do you plan on having once you finish your first story?
Hey Saddle, what is MLIA?
Lol Jade. I should probably go and do that too...
