The Who
I got inspired to write a song 'bout the Who after I saw them perform the Superbowl halftime show. It's sort of nonsensical, but aren't the Who?
* Music just calms the soul, y'know?
** It was Won't Get Fooled Again.
*** There's an instrumental interlude at this point.
**** That's what you call 'em, right?
***** That's his name, right? And the lead singer's too?*
*As in, Roger Daltry is the lead singer's name?
Well, enjoy. The recording process hasn't begun yet, so be patient, and check often kinda.
Well, it was 6 in the morning and I couldn't sleep.
There was thunder and lightning up and down the street.
Well, dad knows how scared I can be so he brought me his radio.*
And through that blessed device, I heard the best song I know.**
Well, it went on for minutes and I loved the tune.
And the guy on the radio said it was The Who.
That day, dad asked if I wanted a present for my birthday.
And I nodded my head, looked at him and said:
There's just one thing I want from you,
I wanna see The Who,
I wanna see The Who.
There's nothing else I want to do.
I wanna see The Who,
I wanna see The Who.
But I knew he wouldn't understand as he shook his head.
He told me that he's late for work, and then left.
Well, it was 12 and I was still in school.
And I could tell you that I was feelin' blue.
And my teacher wondered what she could do
To make me feel not blue.
There's just one thing I want to do,
I wanna see The Who,
I wanna see The Who.
There's nothing else that you could do.
I wanna see The Who,
I wanna see The Who.
But I knew she wouldn't understand as she reached beneath her desk,
She pulled out the whipping rod, and spanked my rear end.
***
When I got outta school, I was feeling worse.
And my mama asked if I wanted desert.
But I said it wouldn't make me feel any better.
But if that's your quest, I said,
There's just one thing that you could do,
I wanna see The Who,
I wanna see The Who.
That's all I really want to do.
I wanna see The Who,
I wanna see The Who.
How I'd known she wouldn't understand.
"Go to your room!" She demands.
Well, I was feeling confused and misunderstood
As I cried in my pillow.
It was then that I realized,
I still had my dad's radio.
So I turned it on, and what'd I hear,
but that song by The Who
And I sang along this time,
And it was good.
Well I heard my father calling me.
I ran downstairs excitedly.
But I could see that he'd heard from the school.
He screamed at me to do my outside chores.
Well, I wanted more than ever,
Just to know what was wrong
With The Who of whom I was so fond.
And as I cleaned all the litter
The teenage punks had left here,
I found a single, crumpled ticket.
For a Who concert in the city.
Well, I stole some money from my dad.
I'm off to see The Who,
I'm off to see The Who!
To pay for a taxi cab****
I'm off to see The Who,
I'm off to see The Who.
My ticket got me "Frontmost seat"
And the view from there was pretty neat.
Suddenly the music played.
In concert of The Who,
In concert of The Who!
And Peter Townshend entered stage.*****
In concert of The Who,
In concert of The Who!
They played a great song called "Join Together".
And Roger Daltry beckoned to me.
He asked me if I played the drums.
Up on stage with The Who!
Up on stage with The Who!
My answer was a single nod.
Up on stage with The Who!
Up on stage with The Who!
He said, "We could use your help 'round here."
He pointed back, to the drums behind.
I played with them throughout the night.
Performing with The Who!
Performing with The Who!
Because, they said, Keith Moon had died,
The drummer of The Who.
The drummer of The Who.
And when the concert ended, my parents
Begged me through the phone to just come back.
I laughed a little bit, then I said,
"I'm never coming back, I'm with The Who."

Re: The Who
x3 Hoohoo!! Epic job. I love how you know all their names, and the song seems so dysfunctional but at the same time it all goes together so nicely.
