Say 'Hello'

For awhile, you two are great friends.
You forget that like all things, this, too, ends.
So when you finally notice you two are drifting apart-
It’ll be too late; you’ve done your part.

You still talk to each other, but not like before.
When you feel like crying – you won’t run to their door.
You can say ‘Hello’ and exchange a few sentences.
But all the fun times you two share are now in past tenses.

You want a new friend, but you’re just too withdrawn-
Oh, if you played chess – you’d be a pawn.
You’re just a little piece in this huge game.
You’ve got to make moves to spread your name.

But you’re just too shy – we’ve said it some time ago.
They’re loud, you’re quiet. They’re high, you’re low.
So continue to be quiet, it’s your choice.
Though I can’t say it’ll make you rejoice.

And so you stay quiet – don’t make a sound.
Drift apart from people and friendship can’t be found.
If you don’t speak up – people can’t hear you.
Just say ‘Hello’ – that’s what you’ve got to do.
