Mountain

Nobody notices me.
I'm just part
of the landscape -
Another hill,
Another rock.

Bigger than the largest creature,
Smaller than the tiniest insect.

Larger,
For my craggy peak
Stretches to the sky;
My stony feet
are buried deep in the earth.

Smaller,
For I am not free:
To move,
To think.

Oh, how I long
to shrink,
to change,
to become one of the creatures
that crawls below;
or one of the birds
that flies above,

Who is like I,
longing for freedom -
And yet,
who is not?
