I was ten years old, trapped in a dog crate, leaning against the bars of my cage. "Fang? He's here." I motioned to the whitecoat walking towards us, and, automatically, I tensed, my hands clenching into fists, my legs gathering under me so I could spring. I saw Max doing the same thing in the dog crate next to me, and Iggy was staring at me, wide-eyed. Well, as wide-eyed as a blind mutant can be. "Tense." I whispered so quietly the whitecoat couldn't hear me. Angel was only two, but she was in the same position I was as the doctor approached.

Fang was doing the same, shooting a quick look at Amanda and Max before concentrating again on the goal ahead.
Nudge's eyes flickered all over, and she almost forgot what she was doing, a frenetic nervousness overpowering her.
Gazzy, only four, crouched, staring determinately out at the sparklingly clean, antispetic smelling room outside, pretending to be brave so that Angel wouldn't get nervous.
Several rooms away, however Test Subject 46 was being taken to the operating room, where a pair of black wings waited for her. She, like Gazzy was pretending to be brave, but that was hard to do when strapped to a stretcher. She shook uncontrollably until they were in the room and she was injected with some kind of anesthetic.

I glared quietly as he knelt down to my level. "Amanda." He whispered, so quietly that only I could hear him, and maybe Fang, if he listened hard enough. "Be on your guard. We're going to get you all out of here. Be prepared." He whispered ever so silently. "But... wait.... how..." I began, but he shook his head. "Just be prepared." I nodded. As he left, I nodded in Fang's direction. "You guys can relax." I let my hands fall as I sat down on the cold floor. This would be... interesting.

Test subject 46 rested on the slab, the surgery just beginning. It was supposed to take forty-five minutes, and this monumental occasion was distracting a large amount of the scientists from their usual routine.

I sighed, making a pillow out of my arms and lying my head on it, curled into a ball. "You're on watch." I alerted him, closing one eye and watching everyone. Hopefully, whatever the whitecoat was talking about would happen. I needed to get out.
