They say the lion falls in love with the lamb...

The vast expanse of the sky was a comfort.

She remembered hearing the teachings of the High Angels. The mortals live on the earth for a reason, they'd said. Do not grow near to them in any way but for guidance. She remembered looking down on the poor mortals as they blundered along on their weak legs, and she remembered seeing the tragedy that struck them daily. She remembered the feel of her glass heart breaking for each of them, as their small screams reached her divine ears.

So now, as Isadel, hailed as the angel of innocent beauty, an archangel, strolled along the gold roads of the Heavenly Kingdom, one in particular struck a chord in her soul. If she had one.

Her business was concerned with protecting the youngest members of the earthly realm. She came to protect the children, and bring them safely to the Kingdom when she could not. But she had been given to protect one child in particular. He had grown, and now was a man. And she loved him.

...but what happens when the lamb falls in love with the black sheep?

Strolling down the vacant concrete sidewalk, Stella kept her arms folded modestly behind her back as she stared up at the medallion proudly hung in the sky by the stars. Sometimes she wondered, was there anything beyond that? Was there another world watching down at her from behind the mask of the moon?

"Of course not," her mother would laugh at her thoughts. "If there were we would have found it already."

But Stella always lived by one of her favorite quotes. "A thousand years ago, everyone knew the Earth was the center of the universe," she told herself. "Five hundred years ago, everyone knew the Earth was flat. Lord knows what we'll know tomorrow..."

Stella sighed and looked down at her left hand, second finger to the left. She wished something eternal, golden, priceless sat there rather than just a bunch of skin. So what if she was only in her twenties? Stella had a lot of friends who'd already gotten married. But she was still dating. Secretly she hoped it would eventually become something more than dating. Maybe one day...

They say the lion falls in love with the lamb...

Isadel liked to watch the humans as they went about their day to day lives. They were so innocent, like little wind up dolls that went about their lives, and they didn't know that they were always being watched by the beings of the heavens, and the beings of the darkest depths. The beautiful angel, with her blond hair that fell in long waves down her back and curled at the end, knew that the humans needn't care. They would do as they pleased, and nothing more.

Now as she lay with her arms crossed on the airy expanse of a star, she watched her female charge with a growing interest. The girl had met Isadel's other charge, the man, and now they were growing close. She regarded this as a good thing, for, as all the other angels knew, one never notices a love they don't believe in.

So the angel watched with a fondness that only someone who's watched a person grow up can have. Her blue eyes twinkled in the starlight, and with a wave of her hand, she sent a shooting star rocketing through the sky. A small one, that would land in the vicinity of the female. A promise, that she was watched over day by day...

...but what happens when the lamb falls in love with the black sheep?

After a few minutes of listening to the clicking of her heels against the cold, heartless ground beneath her, Stella found she was at her apartment building in the eye of her hometown--or city, rather. She didn't feel like going in just yet, so she chose to settle down on the bench right next to the door and continue to stare up. There weren't too many lights, so the sky was easy to look at.

Stella's jaw dropped as a streak of light shimmered across the black, amazing her. A shooting star! she squealed inside her head. Although Stella knew in the back of her mind it was in truth a comet or some other small celestial body, she liked to think on the mystical side of things.

Wish or no wish? It couldn't hurt, so Stella closed her eyes and willed a wish of commitment to her love, hoping the Heavens would get the memo. A smile stretched her lips wide across her face, and she sat there silently for a few moments.

The small prayer reached Isadel's ears with the clarity it would have if she had been standing right next to the female. She smiled and stretched. Testing her wings for cramps, she moved them back and forth, admiring the way the feathers glided effortlessly through the stillness. She adjusted the golden halo that rested on her brow, so it wouldn't tilt badly.

She stole a glance back at the female, and couldn't resist going down to her, at this moment. To maybe give some guidance, or to reassure her that she would do all she could to push the man in the right direction.

So down she stepped down from the star, and was instantly on the Earth, in fitted blue jeans and a soft white top that rested just on her shoulders. She pulled her hair quickly over to the side, and stepped around the wall of the apartment. "Shooting stars aren't common here," she remarked quietly, to the female, and maybe to no one in particular.

comments: she won't be doing this all too often, but i thought it might test it out, this transferring to Earth thing.
