Blue Lightning (A Short Story)
Blue Lightning
Chapter One
Ali hated school. She slung her backpack over her shoulder and walked out of her Algebra class. She couldn't believe Mr.Metiso had given her an F, even though she had obviously turned her her homework. It had to be because I doodled on it, Ali thought.
But no, that wasn't the reason. Ali hadn't shown her work on her paper. Big whoop. It's not like Algebra mattered in the real world. If you wanted to know what 3x + 4x is you just add. (And the answer is obviously 7x if you ask Ali, but of course that isn't the right answer if x equals 4)
So Ali glumly walked to her locker. No one came over to her and asked if she needed help carrying her books or papers. No one asked if she wanted to hang out at their pool party on Saturday. In fact, no one did anything much then try to trip her when she walked to her bike.
Ali got on her bike almost in tears. Why did everyone always pick on her? She picked up the bike stop and peddled off as fast as she could. She was lucky. It started to rain on her way home. She didn't even care that her mom would be mad about wet clothes or that Mrs.Bristolee would be mad about her wet Language Arts book.
She peddled on. Then she remembered her mother's voice that morning. Come home with groceries or don't come back at all! Ali sighed. It was a hard decison. Go back home to her yelling mother, or run away to New York (again) with her grandparents? These are the questions that Ali often pondered.
Finally she decided to do neither. Slowing down her bike, Ali stopped at the side of the road near the park. It didn't matter that it was raining, she just sat under a tree while her bike and books got soaked.
Suddenly a big pickup truck zoomed by and Ali's bike got caught between a truck and a big slab of rock. Ali's mouth hung down about four inches and then she started to throw rocks at the truck even though it was doing thirty down the road. She stomped the dirt and cussed. She wiped the rain out of her face and looked at her wet mascar. "Should've bought the water-proof." She muttered.
Finally, Ali decided no more good could come from standing in the rain then standing in the rain and wiping mascar off her face. So Ali stomped off to the side of road and into the pine forest that no one liked. It was dark and always smelled like something died two feet in either direction.
