The Environmentalist Club Empty The Environmentalist Club

Post by Incubus 6/27/2010, 5:33 am

I've seen this in a few other forums, and I really liked the idea!
Feel free to share your views on government policies, technologies, social trends, etc. which help...or hurt the environment...

Me? Well right now, I'm basically focusing on over-population. I mean, when you think about it, everything starts because of over population! Climatic changes, pollution, degradation of land, waste accumulation.
And how much can one individual do about this? I mean, you can do really good family planning, you can spread awareness...but what else?
China made a law against having more than one baby, if possible. But most countries are democratic now, and it would be against their constitution to make such a law.
So...
Goal 1 of the Environmentalist Club : Spread awareness about the issue of over population! I'm serious. Put posters up, talk to people around you. ^^
Goal 2 of the Environmentalist Club : Reduce your computers brightness by 1% every week! **nods** Hopefully your family won't notice
(Suggested by SaddleClub)
And feel free to suggest another Goal!

Its basically a club where people not only TALK about how to help the environment but do it also... There are simple methods of course like all the switching of lights and not wasting water.
But there's stuff that a few of us aren't aware of us...
like when we access a bright page we burn a lot of energy
Thats why people have been switching to
www.blackle.com
for their homepage(Its a search engine powered by google)
And other stuff, I'll add more tomorrow Razz
I have to sleep now.

What you love about Nature: How beautiful and pure and innocent and fresh it is
What you do to help: I recycle, turn off lights/electronics when I don't need 'em, I walk home from school instead of getting a ride, and I use sites like Blackle when I remember (sorry, Google's just a natural reflex....xD)

I have an idea!! I am going to secretly decrease the brightness on the computer screen 1% a week. Maybe my family won't notice so much then. nod

What you love about Nature: How pure, beautiful, and refreshing it is.
What you do to help: I've hung posters up at my school, talked about it with other students and professors, && I've been trying to save energy by doing other things such as:

  • Taking out my phone charger when my phone isn't charging, or it's fully charged.

  • Turning off my computer when it's not being used.

  • Installing dimmers on the lights in my house.

  • Turning off the water when I am brushing my teeth, or even when I am putting the shampoo in my hair when I'm in the shower. Smile

^^; this is a great club idea. Smile

I don't really feel like joining and I feel like I'm being a really bad person, but I just wanted to point out that it doesn't actually make much of a difference on most monitors.
