Word count idea for MyBB

I just got a new idea, not that I know where I am getting them from. For TwigWriSum and other needs, it would be cool to see a word count underneath out number of posts and stuff. I see some other forums around that have that, and I was wondering if we could do that on MyBB? Like, on the side of your posts you see this:

But on MyBB, if we could add a word count, like the total words you have posted since you joined. So it would look like this:

And maybe even a feature where you can go to your profile, type in a date and you get your word count since that date? Like the amount of words you have typed on this site since then?

Also, if you read the topic that the forum leads to, you will find a series of other things they can do with their coding that we cannot, and they are PhBB, so I believe perhaps you can check/see/make the MyBB version of Twig be able to do some of those things. Also, when will we be converting Twig to MyBB?

I've thought of this before, actually, especially because it's a writers' forum. Haven't ever suggested it, though, because there are a few flaws.

For example, if you copy in quotes, then those have to be removed. So does BBcode, because otherwise you're going to get extra words. If you pasted a three-thousand word thing into the copy-and-paste game or whatever, that'd add to your count, too.

Also, there most certainly isn't a plugin for it on MyBB and I'd need to code it from scratch. I guess it'd be a good experience to learn how to code plugins for it, but... I don't know.

I'm not sure if the date's been mentioned to the public yet so I'll refrain from saying it.

Okay =] Thanks for considering the idea, and I never realized that. Yes, it would probably be best not to add word counts considering people can copy and past things just to boost their count.

Quoting being disabled would just be silly. There are many reasons to use quotes, for example referencing off-site.

I actually did manage to code a plugin. It's rudimentary and counts BBcode, but it doesn't count anything in posts.

So, if Shadow and the mods think it'd be good for Twig, I'd be more than happy to finish it. (I also think that certain forums could have it disabled. Maybe if the Posting Games forum didn't let you gain posts, it wouldn't let you gain words either? Just throwing that out there. xD)

Hmm . . . see, the thing is, it'd be cool to have a wordcount feature, but what would we really use it for? No matter how many sections we restrict, there's always going to be something 'OOC' that gets added in there, so we can't use that for, say, Nanowrimo or TWS. Maybe I'm misunderstanding the purpose, though . . . XD

Perhaps there would be a way to disable coding. Not for the whole site or anything, I mean like not let it be counted. Perhaps there is a way for anything inside parenthesis or brackets or something to not get counted in the word count, and you can make a rule for the word count's sake to not speak in OOC by simply putting
OOC:: Hey.
But instead you must put it in parenthesis or brackets?

I think the whole thing is basically just for fun. It's not like you have a goal or anything, and the idea is to tell you how many words you've had in your posts... I mean, it's interesting to see how much you've written.

If implemented it should include OOC - I don't see why it shouldn't. After all, it's just to show the wordcounts of your posts. It's nothing serious. xD

Also, I almost finished the plugin/mod. I'mma probably release it on the MyBB forums for fun but I just wanted to say that yes, it's very possible.

I like the idea, but I agree with Arianna.
But, maybe the only place to add to our word count would be in the composition section, maybe. *shrug*

All right, well, okay! As long as we all acknowledge it's casual, then I have no problems with it or anything. The way your plugin is working now should be fine, then. :3 We'll just need mod opinion now.
