What do you think about pit bulls?
What do you think about Pit Bulls?
I'm opening up this topic for anyone who wants their voice to be heard. Pit bull lovers, haters, and people who just don't know anything about them can come here.
Re: What do you think about Pit Bulls?
I wasn't sure exactly what to say on this one. When something like this comes up, I remind myself that all dogs go to heaven, but the ones that teach them to do things that would suggest otherwise... Well, it's the wrongful teachers that go elsewhere. I don't particularly fall head over heels for pit bulls though. So I said they're okay.
Since one of my puppies could possibly be part pit bull (doubt it, but possibly), and I love that puppy to death, I said I love them too.

I had a pit puppy and he was awesome! Not the brightest crayon in the box to say the least, but he was sweet. I hope your pup grows up to be big and healthy!
Re: What do you think about Pit Bulls?
Aw, he sounds awesome. :3 And thanksies! My puppy's on the sweet side of things too. She just needs to learn a few manners when confronting strangers as well as our last cat standing and she's good to go. I think I'm going to go let her tackle me now. xD

Re: What do you think about Pit Bulls?
I thing they're absolutely adorable and I lovelovelove them! :3
I just hate how a lot of people think that pits are horrible, viscous dogs. Sure, they can be trained that way, but some other dogs can be trained like that, too. They're really sweet dogs in general, I have a friend who owns one.

Can't say.
I've never owned one.
My dog's a shi tzu, anyway. <333

Re: What do you think about Pit Bulls?
Ah, a little dog.
Me personally, I don't like little dogs.
THREE REASONS;
1. I tend to step on them.
2. Most of them yap constantly.
3. Any dog that's ever tried to bite me has been a little one.

Re: What do you think about Pit Bulls?
I would've posted more if I could, but I had to go. XD
So now I'll post the rest of my argument. x3
Pit Bulls are really, really fantastic dogs. I've come close to owning one, but she actually died in the surgery (she was being spayed) that was going to be done before we brought her home.
She was amazingly sweet and very friendly with children, people, and other dogs. That's pretty much how Pit Bulls are: sweet, playful companions. Just like any other dog. They were bred to be companions for humans and/or guard dogs. So, people decided that with their stocky, strong build and their "guard dog" attitude, to use them for their idea of entertainment.
I just hate how the reputation of such a wonderful dog is so horrible. I think it's so unfair.
When I grow up, I would like to run a pit bull rescue facility.
I actually own a small dog: a yorkipoo (yorkie+poodle=yorkipoo). She's a really good dog, actually. She's such a sweetie. <3

Re: What do you think about Pit Bulls?
My dog isn't THAT small.
My dog barely "yaps". He'll only do so when someone knocks on the door. Other than that, he's quiet.
My dog never bites. Even if there's a stranger attacking us, he'll LICK them, to death. He's too friendly.

Re: What do you think about Pit Bulls?
Aww.
And, pits weren't bred to be guard dogs. They make horrible guard dogs if bred correctly, because they're supposed to love all people.
A well-trained well-bred pit only attacks when it feels its owners and/or environment is being threatened.

Re: What do you think about Pit Bulls?
Meh... I don't have a problem with Pitbulls themselves, but they can become so dangerous with a bad owner. They're the most effective fighting dog ever bred; it's just in their blood. All dogs are bred for different reasons, and whether or not the original Pitbull breeders had this purpose in mind for them, it's just how it turned out. They have a very high pain tolerance, and by nature, they won't back down even when seriously injured. They also have the strongest bite of all canines. Not to mention that they're highly athletic as well and can jump over tall fences; up to 8 feet, even. When they're raised by a good and loving owner, these traits shouldn't be a problem. But the fact is, they are highly dangerous when neglected, teased or given inappropriate training. If I saw a Pitbull in a dark alley, I'd probably be really cautious. The breed itself isn't that bad, but they have a strong potential to be. :/ That doesn't mean there's not good Pitbulls out there, however.

Re: What do you think about Pit Bulls?
I said they are okay.
Just because, well, they are pitbulls. Dogs trained to fight.
I mean, I love the way they look.
But even if they are a sweet dog, like Mo said, they have the potential to be an aggressive dog.
Infact, you could have one of the sweetest dogs and it could easily attack someone.
I shall leave this post with one statement
One of the most common statements heard when a dog attacks someone?
"They've never bitten anyone before!"

Re: What do you think about Pit Bulls?
THAT is a MYTH. They actually have one of the weakest bites of all canines. Rotts and Rhodesian Ridgebacks have a stronger bite. Pits can just hold on longer while biting.Komoda wrote:They also have the strongest bite of all canines.
Re: What do you think about Pit Bulls?
Meh, I read it in an article about Pitbulls. Whether it's true or not, if they can hold on longer then that would make the bite stronger, even if the bite doesn't go through a lot initially. But their bite isn't what makes them dangerous, per se; it's the high pain tolerance and determination.

Re: What do you think about Pit Bulls?
They do have a very high pain tolerance, and very high determination. Whoever wrote that article didn't do much research. The lock-jaw theory is also a myth. It has been scientifically proven that they have no locking mechanism in their jaws or jaw muscles.
Re: What do you think about Pit Bulls?
Never mentioned anything about lock-jaw. Heh, but either way, they're dangerous dogs when mistrained.

Re: What do you think about Pit Bulls?
Of course. Any dog is. A lab or a golden can be as bad as a pit when mistrained.
My mom had a friend who's golden almost tore their baby's face off, and goldens are like, the quintessential family pet.

Re: What do you think about Pit Bulls?
Eh, no, they can't be as bad as Pitbulls. Labs and Golden Retrievers do not at all have the same level of gameness that Pitbulls do. They couldn't be fight dogs. They can be bad, of course, but nowhere near the same caliber as a Pitbull.

Re: What do you think about Pit Bulls?
What I mean is, they have about the same potential. They're both big breeds, and they're both tough, not as tough as a pit, but still, physically able. I've had a lab jump on me and try to bite me and a lab x boxer mix try to lick my face off.
Re: What do you think about Pit Bulls?
Meh, I can't say I agree at all with that, but I'm done with arguing. I really don't care much for Pitbulls, and that's that. It's not like I'd go and shoot one for fun, though. I just wouldn't go searching to buy a Pitbull specifically.

Re: What do you think about Pit Bulls?
Okay. You can have your opinion, that's fine. Besides, a lot of people aren't fit to own pits.

Excactly what I said in my post. Its natural instinct for a dog to be killer. Simple as that. Pitbulls have just had a more violent past. Same for Dobbermans and other dogs like that. So saying 'They arn't that bad! They are really sweet!' is just like me saying that my Pirahna has never bitten anybody (Example people, I wouldn't own a Pirahna even if you paid me. They scare me). They all have the potential in instincts to snap just like that and attack someone. All animals do.

Re: What do you think about Pit Bulls?
Pointing in that this really shouldn't go on.
It's turning into a debate, mainly.
So how's about Liz, Mo, Noah.. if you're going to have more to say on the subject, may I recommend also making a debate, where you can then continue this discussion at?
Just a mere suggestion.
