He stepped out of the locker room casually, walking down the hallway. I don’t know why I continue to gawk at him like an immature teenager; the kind who swoon over movie stars, who have pictures of them cut out into the shape of a heart and plastered all over the inside of their locker. I used to pride myself knowing that I was better than these girls, if not by school smarts than by maturity, and now I was becoming one of them.

Why did Eli do this to me? It wasn’t like he was anything special. He was, in fact, very typical; quite tall for his age, lean muscles, always joking around and surrounded by a group of guys and girls who would lean flirtatiously toward him. He was in fact the most cliché person at our school, as far as cliché goes… So why did he attract my attention the moment he would walk into a classroom? Maybe it was just me, but the whole world seemed to go into slow motion when he walked in.

We had known each other for twelve years; since he moved here in kindergarten. Now here we were, entering our junior year of high school, and the most that I had said to him was a “Sorry,” when bumping into him in the hallway. I didn’t even realize that I had a crush on him until I found myself doodling his name absentmindedly on my homework.

Now I was faced with a problem; would I ever be able to tell him? Make a move? Of course not. I’m definitely the quiet type. I have two best friends, and they’re it. I’m the exact opposite of a social butterfly, and therefore the exact opposite of Eli.

So I stared at him as he walked down the hallway, and I decided to take a risk. I followed him down the hallway, half running to be able to catch him and fall into stride next to him. I knew we were going to the same class, so I decided to strike up a conversation as a knot grew in my stomach.

“Hi.” I said, blushing and trying to figure out where to look. He looked down at me, wondering if it was I who had spoken.

“Hello. You’re Eve, right?” He ran his hand over his hair. I nodded and glanced around frantically. What do I say now? I decided to play dumb.

“And you’re Eli?”

He laughed; a reaction I was not expecting. “Something like that. I think we have the next class together.”

“I know.” I told him. “Did you do the homework?”

“I never do my homework.” He said casually. I stopped.

“You do realize that this is the most important academic year of your life.” He stopped and stared at me.

“Yeah, that’s what my mom says too. She’s been looking for a tutor for me for the past few weeks. Seeing as you seem to care more than I do, maybe you should tutor me. I’m sure that’ll look perfect on your college application.” He smiled, though I couldn’t tell if it was sarcastic or serious.

“I’d love to tutor you. It’ll be fun.” I smiled and continued down the hallway, leaving him standing there as I headed to our class.

“See you later, Eli.” She waved. She flipped her brown hair and strutted away. I rolled my eyes and started down the hallway.

This girl was not my type. None of them were. Fake nails, straight hair, low cut shirts and always talking. God, were they annoying. One girl had been in my sights since we were in Kindergarten. I was always afraid to talk to her; she was the exact opposite of the girls who hung around me, and therefore the exact opposite of myself.

But I still thought about her constantly, and I happily headed down the hallway to my next class, knowing she’d be there.

Eve. She’d always been the quiet type wearing her blonde hair wavy and down, or in the occasional low ponytail. Her nails were painted a soft ballerina pink that didn’t attract attention, and her eyes were covered by thick rimmed glasses. She was a dork. Smarter than the rest of the class, and she knew it. I sighed and kept walking.

“Hi.” I heard I looked down to see her, Eve, talking to me of all people. I felt a knot begin to form in my stomach, but I kept my face collected. I had never talked to her before, and I didn’t want to mess it up.

“Hello. You’re Eve, right?” I asked her, running a hand through my hair to keep myself from getting nervous. She nodded.

“And you’re Eli?” I couldn’t tell if it was sarcasm or a general question.

I laughed, more out of nerves escaping than of actual amusement, although I was thrilled to know that she knew my name. “Something like that. I think we have the next class together.” I felt more at ease now that I was settling into the conversation.

“I know.” She said. I thought I could see her blush. “Did you do the homework.”

“I never do my homework.” I said casually. She stopped walking, she seemed offended.

“You do realize that this is the most important academic year of your life.” She told me. I decided to play it up a bit.

“Yeah, that’s what my mom says too. She’s been looking for a tutor for me for the past few weeks. Seeing as you seem to care more than I do, maybe you should tutor me. I’m sure that’ll look perfect on your college application.” I said, smiling. She took the bait.

“I’d love to tutor you. It’ll be fun.” She strode down the hallway perfectly, and I couldn’t help but smile and head after her to our class.

Amanda likes it (I feel like talking on third person today so bear with me here) Amanda thinks it is really good and she really likes Eli Amanda can't wait for more

Akeria just wrote the next chapter and will post it tomorrow.

Amanda is glad that Akeria will be posting more. Amanda likes the story so far and is wondering where it will be going.
