Should we switch?
Re: Twig's URL
Lol, yeah, it is really an awkward name. XD
Well that's a relief then! x3 I'm glad to hear it.

It is an awkward name, I'll agree with you there.

Re: Twig's URL
Well, Shadowsowner888 is cute, but if it's thewritersguild.net people would have an easier time finding this place
Re: Twig's URL
I'm going to back up Saddle on this one.
We're not selling anything, we're not trying to impress anyone--nada. We're just a site for friends and others who like to write. Chances are people aren't going to find this website without looking at some sort of description--like Google, another member of the site, even the Forumotion front page. If someone doesn't click on the URL simply because it looks silly, they're an idiot, frankly. Although, I guess that would be better for the rejector, 'cause we are kind of silly--which leads into my next little topic.
As for what to name the URL if it were to be changed... I wouldn't make it twig or thewritersguild or whatever you're planning. If I typed that up whenever I wanted to go to the website, I'd feel like it's more of a formal thing. We're nowhere near formal. Unless, of course, we got drugged... But I don't think Mia's that crazy...
Speaking of Mia, we'd lose her if we changed the URL. We can't lose Mia. D: Then again, chances are this place would become more formal without her and then that whole thing on URLs I typed would be meaningless. xP

Re: Twig's URL
I'm sorry, but the domain name doesn't make it any less of a 'friends' place. Yes, it's professional, but the whole point is that it's easier to recognize. And I don't get why Mia wouldn't be able to go on, it's just a different domain.
I'm going to stop even saying anything here, 'cause all people do is get mad at me.

Re: Twig's URL
Well, while I agree with the fact that we don't really need formalities around here, think of it this way; scroll through your bookmarks. More than likely, there are more sites whose URL has to do with the site than not.
I mean, yes, Shad is our admin and all, but other than that it has nothing to do with who we are as a whole. That is a group of young people with a penchant for writing.
I do agree that a change would make sense and support it. I don't have any name suggestions, though.
Length wouldn't really be an issue for me at least, I type in a twenty-two character URL on a regular basis.

This baffles me too.

That's just what I was trying to say, but you said it a million times better than I was able to.
Re: Twig's URL
First of all - Ari, nobody's mad at you. All we're doing here is discussing which would be better. If you think about it, the decision is mine in the end, so what if anyone's gonna be mad at anyone it's gonna be with me. So don't worry too much about it, mkay? ^^ Just a discussion.
The thing with Mia is, well, her dad. If he saw her on an a random site, she'd get in trouble, because I believe it was that she had to have permission . . . ? But whatever it is, think about it. Not only is the whole site gonna look different, which would make things suspicious on her dad's end (because parents can easily misunderstand technological things), but if the url changed . . . then her dad would certainly have reason to believe it was a whole new site.
I like Ari's idea, though, from another thread - we could have both a professional url and shadowsowner888.com, just have one redirect to the other or have it set so people can use either.

Re: Twig's URL
@Ari: Like Shadow said, no one's mad at you. It's just a discussion; also, it seems like somewhat of a debate. No one's getting mad, we're just stating our opinions on this. People's opinions just happen to be different. But no one's getting mad at anyone.

Re: Twig's URL
I think a more professional-looking URL would be great, but it's fine how it is. I don't think changing it is really a priority right now.

Re: Twig's URL
I completely think it should be thewritersinternetguild.com, or theonlinewritersguild.com! Or maybe something a little catchier, and shorter, but still Twig-related. I'll post if I come up with something creative. Although, it's fine the way it is... I s'pose. But, I still want something totally catchy and cool!

I don't really like it because it highlights the "guild" part of the name, rather than the writers part. That's just my opinion, though.Sundara wrote:How about TWIGuild.com? I checked for it and it doesn't exist yet.

thewritersinternetguild.com
And since it's a little long, people could just add it to their Favorites. :3

Re: Twig's URL
Twig.com is already taken.
Perhaps writerstwig.com? Or twigwriters.com? Maybe one that has something to do with the books? writersinspiration.com? But that is also long.

Re: Twig's URL
My own opinion is to leave it the way it is. It could confuse people if it changed. Like, what if someone told their friend about the site and that friend didn't want to look at it for awhile, then they decided that they did want to look at it, but they couldn't find it 'cause the URL had changed?
Of course that could be fixed if typing in shadowsowner888.com redirected the person to the new URL, but that's not my point. The point is that it could cause confusion.

While it appears my side of the argument has been defeated, I suppose I'll help out the winning side out a bit.
If we do change our URL, I support one of Alyssa's suggestions: twigwriters[dot]com.

Re: Twig's URL
We're definitely going to switch, but really, in case this hasn't been said here yet, I don't think there's a choice. The domain name we have currently belongs to Forumotion, so until the period we paid for it expires, we won't be able to use it anywhere else - and it doesn't expire for 44 days. So as soon as we're able, I'm going to try and purchase it as an alternate domain name, but we're definitely going to need a different one until then.
I'm going to put up a poll for the question of which name.
