Re: Catching This Lovebug *finished* [A JB short story]
Here's the last part.
Nick sat anxiously in the waiting room, his hands clasped on his knees, and his face filled with worry.
Everyone else was with Stella in the doctors’ room, but he couldn’t stand to be in there. He didn’t want to know what they were doing to her, whether it helped her or not. All he could do was pray that she’d get her memory back.
Looking around, he saw a pad of paper and crayons sitting on a nearby table. It was meant for little kids, but he went and brought them back to his seat anyway. He began writing with a black crayon - the most normal he could get - on the paper, composing some random song about the present situation.
After a few moments, he tore off the crayon-covered piece of paper, crumpled it up, and threw it across the room. For once, he didn’t think that even a new song would get him anywhere. I’m never going to let this happen again. He didn’t know for sure that everything was over, of course. But if it was . . .
This was a depressing moment.
* * *
It . . . worked. It was back.
Stella’s eyes filled with tears, as she found suddenly she remembered everything. Poor Nick . . . she’d hurt him so much . . . but surely he could understand? Surely he’d forgive her?
“I . . . I have to talk to Nick,” she said quickly, getting up off the hospital cot, and rushing out of the room before anyone could object. They didn’t call after her, however, or even follow, so she assumed they knew what she was doing. Her feet took her quickly back to the waiting room, and she entered with wide eyes to see Nick doodling with an orange crayon on a big piece of paper.
Was he fully sane? “Nick?” she spoke quietly, a bit nervous suddenly.
He looked up with empty eyes, and when he saw Stella - and took in her expression - his face brightened. Just a bit. He hoped she was back to normal. “Stella?” was his response, one just as careful.
Suddenly, she was afraid to just rush over to him. It just . . . would feel too weird. It . . . she hadn’t been gone at all. It was such a bizarre situation that Stella had no clue how to react. Taking slow steps, she crossed the room to Nick. He stood up when she reached him.
They stared into each others eyes, confused, taking things slow - like you would on a first date. There was nothing but a delicate web holding them together right now, and if either of them was too abrupt, their bonds might shatter.
Things were quiet for a minute, neither of them daring to speak.
How could they have suddenly got so distant?
* * *
Nick couldn’t tell a thing. Was her memory back, or was it not? He wished that she would just speak up, and when she was so quiet, he couldn’t bring himself to say anything either. What if she couldn’t remember, still?
She seemed to remember, but how could he be sure?
Nothing would be better to him at this moment then for her just to tell him everything was normal. And then he’d take her in his arms, and everything would be back in one piece.
The quiet drove Stella to an impulse, a surprising thing. She wasn’t usually this brave. She threw her arms around Nick’s neck and planted her lips on his, closing her eyes. He remained frozen for a second, before he realized what this meant. His hands reached around Stella, one to her hair and one to her back, holding her against him, as he fiercely kissed her back with a desperate passion.
Their kiss seemed to go on forever, although it was probably only a minute or so, really; it was one of those rare moments where the good things last longer. Stella had to pull away, as breathless as the first time they kissed, her eyes filled with life as she stared into Nick’s eyes. He stared back at her with an almost wondering expression.
“So you remember.”
“Yes,” she sighed, smiling. She laid her head on his chest, closing her eyes again, wanting to stay right here in his arms forever. “I’m sorry . . .”
The hand on her head stroked slowly stroked her head. “It’s all right. I know it wasn’t your fault.”
Unfortunately, now was the moment that Big Rob, Joe, and Kevin chose to stroll in. “Come on, lovebirds, time to go,” Big Rob said in his low voice.
“No, you mean lovebugs,” Joe corrected, grinning. Big Rob and Kevin rolled their eyes.
Nick slowly separated himself from Stella - partially. One of his hands remained around her, going around her waist, as she shifted herself to still be half leaning on him, against his shoulder.
Big Rob led everyone back out to the helicopter, and they headed back home. Stella frowned, as she realized what she’d have to face with her parents - endless, endless fussing and worry. Exclamations of shock, and tears of relief. Too much care. A sigh escaped her lungs, a quiet one that nobody else could hear.
Joe was determined to keep the atmosphere a joking one however, whether it was already or not. “Bet you’d thought you’d never catch that lovebug again, eh Nick?” he asked, watching the two with a grin.
Nick smiled at Stella, who met his eyes with a smile of her own. “I didn’t,” he said. “But I did.”

Is that IT? I mean, it seems like an ending for a book with a name like that.

Exactly, Saddle! xD
Thanks Dream! =3
Gri, just because you say "jk" doesn't mean we're not going to be insulted by it. You need to think about what you're saying before you post, and whether people might get upset by it.
