Re: Catching This Lovebug *finished* [A JB short story]
Time for more! ;D This is all I have left, though.
Big Rob flew a helicopter towards the boat that had slowly left shore a while ago. They’d been waiting for this moment - after floating by the pier for a while, the boat with Stella on it had chugged casually away.
It was a big boat - a cruise ship, meant to carry hundreds of people. Big Rob landed the helicopter on its roof. “Won’t they have heard us?” Kevin asked, confused.
“Nah. They’re too busy below deck, making sure Stella doesn’t do anything funny,” Big Rob said assuredly. “Do you see anyone up here?”
“What if they’re close enough to have heard us?” Joe asked.
“Nope. They’d be all the way in the ‘basement’ if they had a prisoner.” Big Rob is always so sure . . . I hope he’s right, Nick thought.
“Now follow me,” Big Rob instructed, and the Jonases followed him down a ladder to the deck, and snuck towards whatever passage led down below decks. Nick swallowed dryly, nervous - what if they were too late to save Stella?!
“Hey, Nick,” Joe said, looking back at the 16-year-old that was lagging behind the others. “Stella will be fine.”
“You don’t know that,” he said hoarsely.
“She’ll be fine. I promise,” he said, and then turned back towards where he was walking.
Nick stared at the ground as they reached the ladder leading underneath. He knew Joe would be wrong - he could feel it. Bad things always happened when he had a girlfriend. First there was the whole big scenario with Miley before, when they just couldn’t agree with each others’ perspectives on their lives. And now, a gang had kidnapped Stella and would probably kill her or at least disable her for life.
“Hey, Nick, come on!” said Kevin, his head the only part of the others that was left up above the deck. Shaken from his thoughts, Nick scrambled down after his brothers and bodyguard.
Big Rob led them down a small, dark passageway with a few others branching off from it. “How do you know which way to go?” Kevin said.
“It’s a feeling. You can’t argue with a feeling,” Big Rob replied mysteriously. Joe raised an eyebrow, but neither he or Kevin said anything.
Nick was still silent, walking determinedly along, waiting to find Stella. When he found the leader of this gang . . . there would be trouble. He put on a fighter’s face - oh yes, a lot of trouble.
“Not too much farther now,” Big Rob murmured to them. “But we’ll need to be careful - a few of the gang members are here, taking Stella to their boss - about two or three. They shouldn’t be hard to get past, but if it comes to a fight, be extra careful that they don’t get behind you. They’ll have had training - unless they’re complete idiots.
The brothers nodded, feeling slight adrenaline at this mention of a fight. Hopefully they’d get to do something exciting for once - Big Rob usually took care of all the fights himself, being their bodyguard.
Noticing their hopeful expressions, Big Rob quickly added, “But don’t count on them being idiots.”
They followed him through the ship until they could hear low murmurings nearby. “Get ready,” Big Rob mouthed soundlessly. “We go soon.” The brothers tensed themselves, prepared for the fight that might occur.
“NOW!” Big Rob shouted, and they all charged around the corner. There was a fat bald guy and some skinny dude with long hair there, in front of a few doors - Big Rob charged into them. The men hollered in alarm as they were knocked to the ground. “I’LL TAKE CARE OF THEM!” Big Rob shouted. “YOU BOYS FIND STELLA!”
Reacting that very instant, before the other two brothers even processed what they had to do, Nick was scrambling towards the nearest door. Joe and Kevin quickly followed as Nick began tearing open all the doors which were, conveniently, unlocked.
“Hey! My brother!” Joe said. Nick turned to find he and his best friend doing their handshake thing, right outside one of the opened doors.
“Hey, look!” Kevin gasped then, from another doorway. “It’s Frankie’s girlfriend!”
“Stella. Where’s Stella?” Nick whispered desperately to himself. He threw open another door, and there she was, sitting on the bed.
“Stella,” he murmured, walking in.
But the only expression she wore was one of confusion. “That . . . is that my name?” Nick stared blankly at her - what? Seeing his astonished look, she glanced down at the ground. “I’m sorry. I can’t remember. I can’t remember anything about myself. But if you’re here to kill me, just do it.”
“Stella,” he said with shock, going all the way over. “I’m not here to kill you - it’s me, Nick! Nick Jonas? Can’t you remember anything?”
She shook her head, not looking up. “I’m sorry.”
