(R) Snowstorm slipped out of the medicine cat den and stretched her long limbs. For the first time since yesterday morning, she was emerging from her dark, dank cave. "Morning," she nodded quietly to a warrior who placed something in the pile.

-----(M) Spottedshadow absently picked at a vole, her tail flicking back and forth. Stupid, stupid, stupid . . . Scowling, she shook her head and sighed. Some cats can be such idiots.

-----She was trying to make herself give up on Darkstorm. (Is that the right name?) But really, she wasn't doing a very good job. She knew she should be doing something . . . trying to help him . . . but it just seemed so hopeless. What was the point?

-----(R) Ashcloud looked up, a little surprised, to see Snowstorm. "Morning, Snowstorm," she murmured, looking downwards with a dull expression. Obviously enough, she was more than a little unhappy.

(R) The she-cat looked at her curiously. "Something troubling you?" she asked picking a vole from the pile and looked up at her. The glitter of her paled green eyes seemed worried, as she usually was.

(Shadow, I'm going to start this way before and then he'll skip a while and she can come find him or whatever.)

[M] I slunk through the dark predawn forest, as far from camp as I could be, Spottedshadow's words echoing through my mind, Mintflower's face lingering in my vision. Every step drove claws deeper into my heart, until finally I broke. I whirled around, screaming at the world, and attacked my invisible enemy until I collapsed with exhaustion. Flanks heaving, I gradually became aware of the deep gouges on nearby tree trunks and the fact that my paws were raw and bleeding. I don't know how long I lay there, but eventually my breathing slowed. The pain didn't fade.

-----(R) She shrugged, making it kinda obvious that there was indeed something wrong. "Nothing much." Ashcloud's face twisted a little as she said it, but she quickly turned and started heading out of camp again. Anything to hide it.

-----(M) Spottedshadow shook her head again. She slowly finished her food, then headed out into the forest for lack of anything else to do. Might as well hunt . . . But she still couldn't get Darkstorm out of her head. Maybe she was being overly empathetic, because she knew exactly how he probably felt, but she felt so bad for him right now. She shouldn't have just left him alone like that.

[M] I stared unseeingly at the roots in front of my muzzle. A rock dug into my flank but it never occurred to me to simply move. My brain was preoccupied.

-----(M) At first, things were going well. She found the scent of some animal and was about to track it . . . but that was she she scented Darkstorm nearby.

-----Huh? What's he doing out here? She wondered, lifting her head and pricking her ears. Then, something occurred to her. Spottedshadow's eyes went wide, and then she sprinted full-out in his direction. Oh, StarClan, tell me he didn't try anything stupid!

[M] Memories flitted through my mind and forced me into a ball, trying to stop the claws that were ripping my already torn heart to shreds. I could barely catch my breath.

-----(M) "Darkstorm?" she called, struggling to keep panic out of her voice. He wouldn't really have tried to kill himself . . . would he? Her eyes widened, and she ran faster, until at last she found him.

-----He was laying on the ground . . . seeming okay, but really out of it, except for his bloodied claws. Had someone . . . attacked him?

-----No, she realized, looking with bewilderment at the claw marks everywhere. She didn't know why, but he'd been attacking everything else . . .

-----Well, it's better than taking the emotions out on himself. She let out a sigh of relief she was surprised to realize she'd been holding, and sat anxiously beside him. "Darkstorm?" she said quietly.

[M] I dimly heard her through the haze that had shrouded my mind, but the words meant nothing, just a few random sounds. I felt tears, wet and hot, on my muzzle, but could do nothing to stop them.

-----(M) "Darkstorm?" she tried again, even softer than before, as if it would help him to hear better. Her ears flattened - she supposed she didn't really expect him to hear. "Darkstorm, it's me. Spottedshadow. Are you okay?" I bet I'm just talking to myself. "Hey. Can you hear me?" She pressed her nose against his fur.
