The Triverse: A World Beyond Worlds
The Triverse
This story is about a girl named Elizabeth Yvonne Stone. I can't really explain much without spoiling the story, so let's just say everything the human population thinks, is wrong. Instead of a Universe, there is a Triverse. Three verses, three completely different worlds.
So far, each chapter should be 500 words or higher, as I am going for the 500 words a day challenge. So they might be a bit long.
Introduction
I walked along the sidewalk through the cold air on Saturday morning. A strong wind suddenly blew towards me, and I ducked my head against the piercing, ice cold temperature. I was walking to the Orphanage. My name is Elizabeth Yvonne Stone. Everyone calls me Yvonne. My parents were both in the army, and died protecting each other. Some say it’s the best way to die. I say it’s the worst way to die. If you die protecting someone, you know they die too so you die upset. I shook my jacket so the small bits of frost would shake off and unfreeze my jacket as I continued on my way, a messenger bag across my shoulder. The bag held all of my things, not that there were many things in there. As I walked to the orphanage, I tripped over a crack in the concrete, and fell as I instinctively threw my hands out to fall on. I frowned at my clumsy self and stood up, shaking the dirt off my clothes and rubbing my hands together to clean them. When I looked up, there were two women standing there, staring at me and smiling. They were beautiful. The one to my left was wearing a yellow dress that barely skimmed the floor. She had straight yellow-blonde hair that reached her waist and was pinned back, with yellow lipstick and eye shadow. The lady to my right was the exact opposite. She wore a short black dress, with black tights and heels. She had black nail polish and black makeup with short black hair that was flipped up in the back. The bright and cheery one smelled of a newborn baby, while the gothic-looking one seemed to smell like…shriveled prunes. I assumed they were smiling because I fell, and immediately tried to walk around them. I hurriedly passed by the one in black, but she stuck her hand out and grabbed my arm. Her hand was cold, but something gave me the feeling it wasn’t because of the weather. I stopped, and she pulled me back to face her. “May I help you?” I asked bravely, hoping she thought the quaver in my voice was from the cold, biting wind. “Don’t scare the poor girl, I told you to let me speak to her first, until she grows used to your coldness.” The bright lady said. I didn’t like the way she said ‘Grows used to’, because that was a hint to the fact I would be seeing them for a while. “Are you relatives?” I asked, my voice still a bit shaken. I assumed they would be distant relatives, and came to take me in once they heard of my parent’s deaths. “No” The dark lady said. “Actually, you can think of us as Aunt Life and Aunt Death.” The light woman...I mean, Aunt Life said, with a look over at Aunt Death. I had a feeling it was better to listen to Aunt Life than Aunt Death. “So…are we going to sit here in the cold, or are you taking me somewhere? Like a new home?” I asked, wondering what was going on and why Aunt Death looked so mad. “More like a new world. Now can we go, I don’t like this verse, especially this planet, the weather is so…well bad here.
Aunt Death said impatiently to Aunt Life. “Wait… verse? You don’t like this planet? What’s going on?” I asked, now worried that I would be living with crazy psychos. “I thought I told you to let me talk!” Aunt Life said angrily at Aunt Death, yet still managed a smile on her face. She reached out her hand, palm up, to me and whispered “Take my hand sweetie, and it will all be explained to you.” At first I just stared at the hand, afraid to take it. I felt an odd sense of trust in her though, and finally decided to take her hand. Boy, what a trip I was in for. As soon as I took her hand, everything went black. I felt pressure force at me from every direction and felt like I was being squeezed down to the size of an ant. Then, it felt like I was rushing through air, and the pressure faded. I opened my eyes, not noticing that I had closed them during…whatever that was. I was lying on well-trimmed grass, sitting upright and staring at a large palace. Suddenly my ‘Aunts’ appeared in front of me and I squeaked in fright. “What just happened?” I asked as I stood up and looked mysteriously at the women. “You just traveled through space.” They replied at the same time.
Chapter One
A lot has changed since I first came to the Third Verse. I had learned a lot, and one thing I learned was that my parents were not in the army. They were King and Queen here. But that isn’t what they called them. Here, we are Goddesses and Gods. For every planet there is a Goddess, and then the God is handpicked by them. Then there is The Goddess of The Triverse, The Goddess who rules the entire Third Verse, and every other Goddess and God. Me. It took some getting used to, and I had a lot to learn. Three hours of school a day, and here the days were longer. I also had a schedule, and “volunteers”. “Volunteers” are kind of like slaves who care for me, but they are sent from each planet, and actually want to do it. I sat at my vanity, in my chamber of my palace. Boy that still takes some getting used to. Cassandra was brushing out my hair, which had grown kind of long like Aunt Life. But, in front of others I was supposed to call her The Goddess of Life and Life Guardian to Myself. You see, Aunt Life and Aunt Death are actually my guardians, they follow me everywhere. When Cassandra finished putting a golden crown atop my head, she curtsied before me and spoke with her head down. “Goddess of the Triverse and Mother to us all, The Goddess of Life and Life Guardian to the Goddess of the Triverse and The Goddess of Death and Death Guardian to the Goddess of the Triverse wish to speak with you.” Man, I felt so bad for the “Volunteers”, because every time they spoke it was such a mouthful. “Bring them in Cassandra” I said. Yeah, I was supposed to learn everyone’s name too, everyone on every planet. So much work but it is a must. Cassandra nodded, and then left the room. As I waited for my guardians, I stood and walked to the mirror. As I stepped on my dress, I remembered what my teacher taught me and lightly picked up the front of my skirt so I would not trip. When I approached the mirror, I looked at my long golden dress. It was like Aunt Life’s dress, but golden, not yellow. And it glimmered in the light. I heard footsteps and turned to see Cassandra followed by my guardians. Her head was still down. “Dismissed.” I said to her, and she immediately turned and left the room. As soon as she left, my guardians began speaking. “We have lots of work for you today, Elizabeth.” Spoke, Aunt Life. Did I mention my guardians are the only ones aloud to call me by my real name? I nodded, and she continued speaking. “First we must visit the Ice Planet, to check up on Denellia. Then, we have to-”I interrupted her. “One thing at a time Aunt Life, I cannot remember it all at once.” I said with a smile. She nodded. “Then let us hurry to the Ice Planet.” She said, and held out her hand. I still had not managed the transport thing, or whatever they may call it, I grabbed her hand, and went through the familiar feelings of traveling through space. I had learned to keep my eyes open, and think about landing on my feet when I appeared so I did not look dumb in front of others when I returned, eyes shut and sitting on the ground. I heard a silent POP! noise as I came to on a very cold planet. We appeared in the middle of the marketplace, and immediately everyone made a path, just staring. As we walked toward the castle, Aunt Life spoke to me quietly. “Don’t look at them; focus on where you are walking. Lift up your skirt. There you go. Keep your head held high. Walk with one foot in front of the other. Longer, quick strides. You are doing great.” She kept muttering small tips so I didn’t look like a fool. I approached the Ice Castle, and stopped at the large doors. There were two guards standing on the sides of the door, but not opening it for me. My teacher had explained that if they did not do this, to clear your throat and get their attention. I did so, and they still did not open the doors. Aunt Life began to speak “Excuse me, guards, please let us through.” The guards looked at each other, then back at Aunt Life. “We have orders to let no one through without The Goddess of Ice and internal Coldness’ permission.” The guard to the right said. “I don’t believe you need permission to grant the entrance of The Goddess of the Triverse, Mother to us all, don’t you agree?” Aunt Death spoke this time. The guard’s eyes widened as they looked to me. They immediately opened the door for us, and we entered. I had never experienced something like that before. Maybe I looked too young to be the Goddess that I am? Oh well, I thought, as we entered the Goddess of Ice’s chamber, following a Volunteer. The Volunteer was dismissed, and we spoke to the Goddess of Ice.
Chapter Two
I dropped hold of the skirt of my dress, and strode across the room so I was standing in front of The Ice Goddess. My guardians stood beside me, Aunt Life still giving me tips on what to say. The Ice Goddess did a small curtsy before me and began speaking. “Good Morning Goddess of the Triverse, Mother to us All, may I assist you in any way?” Aunt Life whispered in my ear, “Greet her and speak of her guards.” I smiled at her and spoke as Aunt Life told me to. “Good Morning Denallia. Might I suggest that you speak to your guards outside the palace? They obviously do not know who I am, and do not understand your orders.” I spoke not too quietly, but not too loudly either, and spoke kindly like my teacher instructed. Denallia seemed surprised. “What have they done?” she asked with her eyes wide. Aunt Life spoke this time. “They insisted to not let us inside as your orders stated to let n one inside. They did not seem to know who Elizabeth was, and when I told them they did not apologize at all, but just opened the door.” She explained. Denallia nodded. “I will speak with them soon. Now, may I ask why you came, Great One?” she asked. I shuttered, but was glad they did not notice. I hate that everyone calls me so many names. It is hard to keep up with. I looked to Aunt Life for advice, for I did not know why we had come in the first place. Aunt Death spoke for once. “The Goddess of Fire and Internal Heat has delivered a message through me to you. She would like to break the bond, and become enemies.” She said, her right hand twitching. The Goddess of Ice nodded. “I was expecting this to happen sooner or later. We are natural enemies.” She said. Aunt Life nodded, and grabbed my hand. We appeared back in my chamber. I was deeply confused. What had just happened? A bond broken, enemies created, and Denallia was happy about that?”What just happened? I thought that Denallia and The Goddess of Fire were like sisters they were so close?” I said with a puzzled voice as I strode to my chamber window and looked out at the beautiful forest. I could tell by her voice that Aunt Life didn’t want to tell me, but she did as I commanded. “Times are hard, with everyone getting over the death of your parents. Bonds are breaking and enemies are being made. Everyone is terribly upset, and for some that means anger, and want for war.” She explained. I turned to look at her, worry in my eyes. “I cannot let that happen! I don’t want the Third Verse fighting, who knows what will happen? And I definitely can’t control them if they start fighting. I am just a kid!” I said concerned. “There is nothing you can do” Aunt Death assured. “My teacher taught me that as The Goddess of The Triverse, there is always something I can do. Take me to Teresa.” I commanded as I stuck out my hand, palm up. She unwillingly took my hand, and we appeared outside the Palace of Internal Heat.
