I do not like her socius. xD She's gonna kill Bane or something drastic like that, I just know it. Lol, awesome job.
Re: Beyond Reflections (In Writing)
Ahaha, thanks. XP Who knows what Wyla has in store...
Though in the original BR, Bane got shot in the back by a bunch of arrows and bled to death. So you know, I am quite capable of things like that...

This is all I've got, folks. I'm just too distracted with school and junk... Sorry. I'll try to get more done eventually.
Chapter 13 - Sugar
Penny’s mind whirled with confusion. As much as she tried to believe the whole mirror thing before, now that it was real and right in front of her, she couldn’t possibly admit that that world actually existed. All of this was just too much for her. The stress made her breath come in heavy gasps and caused beads of sweat to drip down the edge of her palms. “You’re crazy. Whoever you are, you need serious help…” she muttered, fiddling with her seatbelt. Like the door of the vehicle, her seatbelt buckle wouldn’t move either.
“Oh, give me a break, Penelope!” Wyla snorted, rolling her eyes. “You know I’m right. After all, if anyone here is crazy, it’s you.” I’m not the one hearing voices in my head, just remember that. She finished the sentence in Penny’s head, causing the redhead to slam her head against the car ceiling in surprise. Cringing with pain, Penny flooded with panic. One hand massaging her throbbing skull, she fiddled in her purse for scissors. Once she had the cool metal in her hands, she began to snip through the seat belt, hoping Wyla wouldn’t take notice.
“Okay, so I’m the crazy one… Maybe I’m just imagining you. You’re just a hologram-“
Before Penny could finish her sentence, she felt a hand slap the scissors away from her. A startled shriek escaped her throat as she yanked her hand away, the skin where Wyla’s fingertips touched red and bruised.
“Did that feel like a hologram to you?” Wyla hissed, a sneer crossing her face. “I don’t want to hurt you. In fact, that’s the last thing I want. But I’ll do whatever I can to prove to me that I’m real. Now, since you’ve been dismissing that voice of mine in your head as a product of imagination, I had to take the extra step. I had to come here in person to show you that I really exist. That’s right- I went from breaking a law to breaking several. And it’s all for you Penny. All you have to do is believe what you see here and listen to what I have to say for just a second, and then I’ll let you go. Got it? I don’t have much time here before the guards catch me, so stop with the trying to escape!”
It seems like you’ve been doing more talking than I have escaping, Penny thought subconsciously.
“Remember I can read your thoughts, too!” Wyla pointed out, folding her arms with a glare. “All I want to do is help you. I’ve know you all my life, Penny; we’re closer than you think. Why would I hurt you if I didn’t have to?”
Penny sighed, buying a bit of Wyla’s speech. She couldn’t fully believe it, not yet anyway, but she’d give this socius of hers a chance, at least. “Fine,” she gave in.
“Now, I may be a law breaker, but you already know too much about the shapeshifter world than necessary, thanks to Mrs. Rocus,” Her silvery face turned into a frown before she continued, “Because of that, I ‘m only giving you clues and instructions; that means no revealing big secrets or anything. I even have my limits, you know? So sorry for all the riddles, but it’s kind of a part of the job. I’m not even supposed to be here, so consider yourself lucky that I’m telling you this in person… Or that I’m even telling you this at all.
“There are some things you need to know.
A: Never tell anyone about me. Not Mrs. Rocus, not Gydan. Absolutely no one.
B: Listen to everything I tell you. You can trust me. I’ll give you instructions and advice from time to time, and you absolutely must follow it. I’m a bit stronger psychologically than most, meaning I can not only read your thoughts, but pick up certain aspects of others’. By knowing the motives of the people around you, I can help you go on the right path. Just trust me.
And C: You’re a part of something big, Penny. Don’t try to be modest, because you know it’s true. Just don’t go dying on us, okay? We need you.”
Penny blinked twice, not fully understanding what this very talkative shapeshifter was saying but picking up the important parts. Don’t tell anyone, check. Follow instructions without question, check. I’m somehow important in the big scheme of things… Well, alright. I can deal with that.
“And one more thing before I leave, Penny,” Wyla continued, not waiting for confirmation from Penny aloud. “Don’t get too close to Bane. All it will do is hurt you.”
Penny opened her mouth to ask questions but it was too late. In just a matter of seconds, Wyla’s hand brushed lightly against the rearview mirror. All the twenty year-old could do was watch with awe as her socius turned into a liquid silver and waved goodbye, appearing back into the mirror as Penny’s reflection.
The woman poked at her mirror for a few moments, checking to see if her socius was still mimicking her actions. She even tried abrupt movements, but everything was as flawless as it was before.
But Penny had one problem; she was stuck with Adam’s car and had no idea how to get it back without anyone noticing. For once, she wished her socius was there to give her guidance. But it appeared that Wyla was like a cat; she never comes when you want her to, and always comes when you don’t want her to.
Sighing, Penny put the keys into the ignition. Perhaps she could sneak it back without him noticing. She wasn’t exactly sure where he lived, so she decided she would drop it off at Bane’s apartment.
It didn’t take her long to reach the building where Bane resided, for Wyla hadn’t taken her very far out of town. Thankfully, no one was around to notice when she parked the car outside and headed back to the university.
“Augh, I’m so screwed,” she groaned, the stress throbbing through her skull. She was half an hour late for her class. But of course, she wouldn’t be in as much trouble as she would have been in high school. Since Penny was the one paying for the classes, they didn’t care if she didn’t show up. It was her own fault if she missed classes because the only person affected was herself because she’d be missing valuable lessons to help her pass exams. She did have a report due today, but she didn’t have to hand it in the second class begun.
All eyes were on the woman as she strode into the class, setting her report on the desk. Mrs. Edwins was at the front of the class with charts full of youth learning statistics plastered to the white board. Penny was learning to become a math teacher; she had her major in math and she also took several education classes. Mrs. Edwins was one of her favourite education teachers. They didn’t do overly complicated work in her class and the teacher managed to do things in a way that helped Penny understand. For example, she used lots of charts and diagrams instead of throwing 100 page long reports at her like the other teachers did.
The attention of the class flicked back to the board when Penny took her seat. She sat beside Claire, who was in her math class as well. She was a bit short for her age of 26 and her face was splattered with a cute arrangement of freckles. Her strawberry blond hair was cut to her chin, falling down in pin-straight strands and adding maturity to her otherwise childish appearance.
Claire self-consciously straightened out her violet turtle neck as she cast a timid smile at Penny. They had spoken only once or twice, therefore making them more of acquaintances than friends. Claire was also quite shy and didn’t talk much to anyone so Penny didn’t take it personally when she ignored her for the rest of the class.
Time had dragged by really slow, but eventually Penny was done her classes for the day. Just as she reached her dorm, she felt the vibration of her cell phone in her pocket. Looking at the screen, she saw that it was a call and not a text like she had expected. It was from a number she didn’t recognize, so she answered it reluctantly.
“Hello?” she asked into the phone.
“Hey, Penny?”
“Yes, it’s me. And who is this, exactly?”
“It’s me- Adam.”
Penny’s heart pounded heavily in her chest. Did he think she stole his car? Oh God.
“Oh, hey,” she tried to reply casually.
“I was wondering… Do you want to go for coffee with me tonight?”
What!? Penny nearly gasped aloud. What does he want to go out for coffee for?
She hoped he realized that she was dating Bane, but then again, he probably meant it just in a friendly way. After all, his little brother probably did tell him all about her. It would make sense if Adam wanted to get to know Penny a bit better after all the tall tales Razz probably told.
“Um… Well, sure,” Penny told him, trying to keep the reluctance out of her voice.
“Okay, I’ll meet you at the bistro at 7 o’ clock sharp.”
And with that, he hung up the phone. Deeply confused, Penny sighed heavily and flopped down onto her messy mattress with exhaustion. The last few days had been a little bit more action-packed than she preferred. Penny was used to having such a quiet, boring life but now, things were so fast paced. First with the whole Gydan thing, then with the town hall, meeting Adam, Veronica being pregnant, her and Bane’s first date, and of course with the whole mirror dilemma. Life just didn’t seem real anymore.
You think things are bad now? Came the chuckling voice of Wyla in the back of her mind, If you could see the future… Oh boy, you’d freak.
Penny groaned, covering her head with the pillow to block out Wyla, though that was about as effective as trying to avoid a smell by plugging her ears.
Oh… So I’m only allowed to talk to you when you please? Well sorry, hun, but that’s not how it works.
“It’s not that… If you’re going to talk to me, at least stop speaking in riddles!” Penny growled.
Oh, sorry. Was I speaking in riddles? I thought I was pretty clear. The future’s going to suck for you, darling. At least if you stay with Bane. Do you know what Bane means? Evil. Destruction. Et cetera.
Penny rolled her eyes. “Yeah, yeah. His parents were kind of nut cases, alright? Just because they chose a bad name doesn’t make him bad. You’re just jealous.”
She could hear Wyla snort. Oh, that’s what you think...
“Who are you talking to?” a chipper voice asked from across the room. Penny flinched in surprise, spotting Veronica at the doorway with her hands on her hips.
“Oh, just talking to myself… I do that sometimes,” Penny thought, kicking herself mentally for the lame excuse.
Veronica smirked in amusement. “Mkay, Penny... You’re so strange sometimes.”
Penny smiled and shook her head, pretending to go through her texts, even though she didn’t have any.
Veronica sagged onto the bed beside Penny. “I went to the doctor’s today. Ya know, to see if I really am pregnant.”
“Oh…” Penny tensed in anticipation. She wondered what the results were.
Veronica pulled out the ultrasound sheets from her rhinestone studded purse, her face expressionless. She pointed a manicured nail to a little blob in the center of a black and white mass. “That’s the heart,” she told Penny, her voice unreadable.
Penny squinted her eyes but still couldn’t see how that resembled a heart in anyway. Nonetheless, she took Veronica’s word for it. She turned to her, “Well… Is that a good thing?”
Veronica’s charade completely shattered, her face splitting into a grin. “Yeah, it is!” she cheered. “I mean, at first I thought I wasn’t ready for it… But I so totally am!”
Penny sighed in relief. “That’s great!”
Veronica beamed, “Yeah, it is. My only worry is that it’ll have Vanilly’s looks. It would be such an adorable baby if it didn’t have any of him in it. I think it’ll be a girl. I hope it is, anyway. Maybe I should eat more dairy? Anyway, if she is a girl, I’ll name her Sugar. Do you think that name’s too hokey? I think it’s super cute, personally,” she babbled on.
Penny couldn’t help but smile. Veronica was back to her old, shallow self. Though it would be nice to have some maturity, Veronica was like her getaway. She could go to her whenever she needed to just kick back and have some fun without being judged.
“Yes, sugar’s definitely a cute name.”
