Camp Vamp

I laughed loudly along with the others, the eight of us sauntering down the path, towards the lake. Matt had his arm draped across my shoulders, and he briefly nuzzled me just under the ear. I blushed slightly, turning my head to kiss him full on the lips. The other six snickered, but we ignored them. I turned to face forward again, all of us continuing to walk. “I dare you to jump off the dock,” Amanda laughed, nudging Jason with her elbow. “Then you're coming with me,” he replied, snorting. “Better idea,” I chimed in, and everyone glanced at me. “Let's all jump off the dock!” We all laughed again, starting to sprint to get there quicker. Finally, the eight of us were gathered on the dock, nearly the end. Matt and I were in front, Amanda, Jason and Cody right behind us. Alissa, Alexia and James behind them. “Ready?” I asked, and everyone nodded eagerly. It was the last day of summer camp, the summer before I started ninth grade. We all took deep breaths, leaping from the dock at exactly the same time. I plunged into the freezing water beside Matt, my waist-length black hair splaying out above me as I sank down. I heard lots of splashing, and kicked up, surfacing, nearly out of air. Then I realized something; no one else but Matt had come up. And I could hold my breath the longest out of us all. “Where are the others?” I asked, turning to look at him. He grinned coldly, and I once again noticed his strangely sharp canine teeth. “Dead,” he whispered, that bright gray gaze fixed on me. I caught my breath, staring into his eyes as he slightly shook out his pale blond hair. I instantly relaxed, though, smirking at him. “Okay, seriously, where are they?” I asked again, glancing around. “I'm dead serious,” he replied, and I looked back at him again. The warm glow usually in his eyes was gone, replaced by cold empty-ness. “Matt?” I asked, scared now. He lunged for me, and I screamed, frantically leaping onto the dock, scrambling to get away. He followed right behind me, leaping on my back the second my feet hit the ground. I fell heavily, his full weight on my hips. “Matt,” I said loudly, terrified. “Get off.” He completely ignored me. Suddenly, I felt his hands wrap around to my front, up a lot higher than I would have liked. “Get off!” I screeched, struggling to get him away from me. “Shut up, [censored],” he snarled, clapping one hand over my mouth, the other remaining on my chest. Then he forced me to raise my arms, yanking my t-shirt off. “Matt,” I whispered, closing my eyes, swearing I could feel my heart breaking. “I said shut up!” he snapped, and I gasped in pain as I suddenly felt a knife dig into my left wrist. He slashed the knife all the way up my arm, across the back of my shoulders, and down to my right wrist. I was sobbing silently now, feeling the blood flow out. Then I felt him lower his head to my back, the open cut across my shoulders. And I felt him lick me, tasting the blood there. “Get. Off. Me!” I screamed, lashing out at him. I rolled over, throwing him down, and jumped him. I landed quite a few good hits right to his jaw and temples, and he was unconscious quickly, those unusually long teeth glinting in the moonlight, tinged with red. I continued sobbing, crawling off him to sit on my knees beside him. I didn't even notice the smoke and flames until the firetrucks peeled in, firemen rushing over to us. I was instantly moved to an ambulance as they tried to treat the wounds he'd caused. I don't know what they did with him, but I later learned Matt had died. I had killed him.
