"Ugh, quiet! Both of you!!!" she said, glaring at Hase and Dusk. "Sylore is in danger . . . it's time we fight against Vaengyar, rather than fight each other."

I shook my head, in the process lightly moving his paw off my shoulder. As an Arasund I didn't accept the tears coming out in front of others. "Let's just get to work. " I whispered, looking up at him.

Koln nodded, slowly. He began pacing the floor. "The King of Vaengyar, Ornaeses the Great, forty-two years old." he recited, as if he said it everyday. "He is a large Pinionlines, in case you haven't seen him yet. He became king at sixteen, and his nephew is heir to the throne, since Ornaeses and Her Majesty can't have children." he stopped pacing and turned to Dawn. "Before I go on . . . do you have any questions?" he asked.

I looked up, forgetting entirely of what had brought tears to my eyes. It was working time. "First, does the King care about his nephew? Enough to where if I were to kidnap him he would be upset? That is a good blackmail technique, taking loved ones away. Second, why can't they have children?"

"On the contrary, Ornaeses wants to kill his nephew. He wants the throne all to himself . . . and when he's gone, he wants his . . ." Koln stopped there, and cringed. He thought of Ornaeses's dear wife, and Koln's heart broke when he thought of what Ornaeses had done to her. "Nevermind." Koln said. "Like I said earlier, Her Majesty is infertile. That's why she can't have a child. Plus, it would never work. Ornaeses is a pinionlines, Her Majesty is a wolfgon." he explained.

Koln sighed and shook his head.
"Once his nephew is dead . . . he's going to murder his wife . . . and then . . . he's going to make his lady friend queen." Koln began to breath heavily. He hissed through his teeth, "I'm not going to let him do this. I am not going to let him hurt the queen."

"Because it's easier said than done." he replied. "The throne room is surrounded by foot soldiers. I may be a guard, but I don't have the power to go into a throne room." Koln stated, putting emphasis on the word "throne".

Excalibur ignored Hase's comment, and turned her attention to Dusk. "Vaengyars . . . notice the familiar pattern on their breastplates . . ." she shifted her weight. "What I don't understand, is why they're in the forest . . . Arasunds would have killed them by now . . ." she said.

Excalibur didn't reply . . . they were much too close to the creature. She crouched low . . . preparing to pounce. She signaled Dusk to the same.

Dusk dropped low, his long bellyfur just brushing the leaf-strewn earth. He pricked his ears, scanning the area. The wind was comming towards them, brushing his ear-fur.

Excalibur mouthed a countdown. "Three . . . two . . . one . . . go go go!!!" She jumped from the bushes and tackled the creature. She could now see that it was an Equiarz . . . much larger than her. It was covered in metal armor . . . with spikes in various places.
Perhaps attacking it hadn't been such a good idea . . .

Dusk jumped, the Equariz had heavy-plated armor, but he hookced its claws between the plates, and swung up on its back. It was larger than him - but not by much, and his weight made it stagger.
