Fake Smiles And Sad Songs

Behind the joy there could be grief
They could be happy for only seconds so brief
There could be sadness behind the songs
Those smiles may not last too long

They could be pretending for someone else’s sake
That could be the reason that their happiness is fake
They could be about to fall apart, deep down inside
They’re spending their days hoping no one sees their lies

They plaster on fake smiles and recite the lines by heart
Only when no one is watching, do they really fall apart
The performance is convincing, they do it very well
They’ve figured out a way to hide just how far they fell

They act as if they’re fine and smile with painted grins
Experienced as they are, they play the part again
They see the strength and joy of someone else’s life
But what they don’t know is we all fake smiles sometimes
