Overrated Books?

I'm just asking. xD
And say if you like the book...cause not all overrated books are annoying. xD
EDIT: BESIDES Twilight. We know that already. xD

Lord of the Rings. xP I tried to read it a couple years ago and I almost died of boredom.

I'm with you there, Ratty, though I'm not sure I think they're overrated. XD Just . . . beyond my scope.

I think Twilight is kinda overrated. Personally, I guess I think they're okay, though I go around bashing them sometimes . . . but they're really not that great. They just have an unfairly big fanbase. XD

And Twilight, well, Shadow pretty much covered it. It was a mediocre piece of writing imo. People go far enough to call it a saga (being a narrative telling the adventures of a hero)—but what's so heroic about it? I agree with all the LotR comments. My mum tried to get me to read it. (I needed my next Pendragon book and mum bought it with the one I wanted) I got about halfway through... and that's only because I need to have a book with me every day in ELA and I didn't have anything else. So. Boring. Also I didn't understand what was happening a good chunk of the time.

And everyone nowadays knows that Twilight's overrated. I tried to read the series, I really did. But Eclipse was so boring.

I'm with you and I haven't even read them. Just a review from a book of other student reviews so we knew what our review should look like when we reviewed a book we did in our student book clubs. (Yes, I used "review" way too much in that sentence on purpose.)

Well, Twilight's a decent book, but it does get a lot of publicity, and it is kinda... girly? Ditz-y? And Bella's not the greatest strong female in the world.

However, Jasper.... well, that's another story. xD <3

OMG, haha, suddenly I'd love to see Twilight written from Jasper's point of view. XD He's so much less of a Mary Sue than all the others.

Alright, here’s my opinion. Skip to the end for TL;DR.

I have to agree and disagree with the LoTR comments. Yeah, can be overrated, but I still think it’s a good read.

Yes. They are extremely time-consuming, and sometimes hard to understand, but J.R. Tolkein did a really good job with the plot, character development, and the world design. (It’s pretty darn hard to design a world of your own along with other languages, I’ve tried.)

I think the movies are pretty exciting though, give them a try if you don’t want to read the books.

I dunno, maybe it’s the fact that my dad got me way into the series when I was young, but if you take the time to read and understand it, it is a good series even if it’s overrated. Maybe it’s just more of an adult thing, considering all parents seem to love it. XD

(Out of the whole J.R Tolkien LoTR series, the Hobbit is the easiest to understand and the shortest, just in case anybody wants to give it a try.)

I’m going to have to give another mixed feeling book series and say Indiana Jones. I like it a bunch, but it’s really overrated. :\

TL;DR:
LoTR can be boring and overrated but is worth a try. (The movies are actually pretty exciting if you can stand some creepiness of it)

But I have to disagree about LotR series. I've never read the entire books, but I flipped through the first one when I was at a library, it was extremely well written. I wasn't allowed to get it, though . . . my teacher wouldn't let me. >_<
If any of you have read the entire series, could you maybe tell me your opinions on it? I really want to get it as an audiobook . . . but I don't want to be disappointed. O__o

Basically, it is very well-written, but hard to understand and very boring at some parts. I think it's a great book, but you have to have a lot of time on your hands. I say rent the audiobook first, if you like it, then get the rest of them, that way you aren't dissapointed.

I can agree with you guys about it being well-written. XD I do own them, and I've tried getting through them at times . . . honestly I do keep intending to go through and take a look, but then the small font scares me and I decide to read a different book. But yes, the author did so well with making his own little world and everything, and I did enjoy it when I finally sat down and started reading.

I just have problems doing that sitting thing with it. XD
