Re: Stricter Rules
I agree with both the word count and grammer.
I just can't stand it when people post like:
ill b bak @ bout 3. se u la8er!1!
As long as I can still use my Texas twang in my posts [i.e. y'all, ain't, no, got], I'll be perfectly happy with it.
As for the word count, it would take a little time to get used to. But I belive that if we all stick to it, it'll become a habit after awhile.

Re: Stricter Rules
I'm with you on that one, smilies shouldn't be considered bad grammar. I don't remember if we ever claimed that was true, but even if we did, I'm agreeing with you guys. xD Heck, how would you put grammar rules to a smiley? It's not even writing; it's just a decorative combination of symbols.
And I imagine as long as they're punctuated correctly (like y'all for "you all" and ya'll for "ya will", if I stand correctly (xP), then that Texan slang-twang will be acceptable. Don't take that as a final answer though.

Re: Stricter Rules
I could put grammar rules to smilies. >D Call it Shadow-Webster's Smiley Dictionary and Usage Guide.
Re: Stricter Rules
Haha, I could see you doing that. xD I'd be interested actually, so I could see what definition and usage rules you provided for the xD, and whether it's meant to be xD or XD, or if it's both and you need to use them in separate situations... et cetera, et cetera.

Re: Stricter Rules
I'd be really mad if there were rules on smileys, to tell the truth. Because if someone started telling me I had to use "XD" instead of "xD" and I had to put it before the punctuation mark and not after... well, I'd freak. xD
Re: Stricter Rules
Smiley faces before the punctuation marks? o.e In my book, that would then classify the smiley as a word instead of a smiley, therefore my sticklerish brain would go haywire...
Well, as long as that one isn't put in place, I'm good. xD You do have a point on the XD and xD thing though, that'd probably get agitating real quick.

Re: Stricter Rules
I'm going to make a rule because I feel like it. Don't follow it, though, unless you want to, because people shouldn't really put rules to smileys anyway, I just feel like having fun with myself. XD
Rule 1: Smileys must always come after the sentence whose emotion they convey.
Rule 2: xD and XD may be used interchangeably, depending on the poster's mood.
Rule 3: The smileys should match mood, not action. You don't have to be laughing to put XD, but it must follow something deemed to be humorous.
Rule 4: Smileys are not meant to be used in pairs.
Rule 5: Smileys are to be used after punctuation. They do not replace it.
Yeaaaah . . . I could write a whole book on this, lol. xP

Re: Stricter Rules
I'm glad I already follow most/all of those, so I don't have to worry. xD Quick question though, just out of curiosity (I don't do either of these), but by pairs, do you mean like "xD " or "xDDDDD"?

Re: Stricter Rules
Actually I agree with all of those. xD Not totally with Rule 2, because I always use "xD", but... :3shadowsowner888 wrote:I'm going to make a rule because I feel like it. Re: Stricter Rules
A pair would be like xD . xDDD is fine.
Rule 6: For effect, one smiley may be used multiple times or dragged out. If it covers most of the post, however, then it's just obnoxious. It better be for comic effect. o_______________O
And that's why it's may be used interchangeably, Ari! So you can use just one, too.

Re: Stricter Rules
I think I sometimes break Rule 4. I do stuff like "Yay, that's cool! xD" But I only do that when I know that one of the smileys will be parsed into an image, so I guess I'm only half breaking it, right? xDDD
Re: Stricter Rules
Hmm, well, when you do it I don't particularly find anything wrong with it. XD But if you're some random member who just likes to go around using a bunch of smileys at once, that's when I'd feel the urge to throw these rules at you.
Re: Stricter Rules
I did that once. Remember teh time I psoted that Eclipse was coming out, adnt ehre were about fifty smiles? O________________________o

Re: Stricter Rules
I dont agree if someone was role playing and there chacter said naw(no) or ima(im going to).
Re: Stricter Rules
Well, I think it's fine if characters use slang when speaking. It's the writing itself that I worry about. :3 "I'mma/Imma" and "naw" are fine in regular chat too, I think. As long as it's spelled properly.

Re: Stricter Rules
Mo got to it first, and I'm alongside her.
I'd also just like to check, I think this would be okay, but I'm not sure... In one of these RPs I have a four year old that can't speak correctly yet, so she's going to be saying "Hi! I'm Cwaudia" instead of "Hi! I'm Claudia", or "What's dat fing over dare?" instead of "What's that thing over there?". To add in her character some more, would that be acceptable?

Re: Stricter Rules
I would consider that okay, though if it were to get too hard to read, it might be best to offer an ooc translation as well.

Re: Stricter Rules
Yeah, seriously. xDD Life isn't complete without, like, using bad grammar and deciding for yourself not to use it all the time.

Re: Stricter Rules
I agree compleatly with the grammer thing, it ticks me off. But since I don't have alot of time on here I have to say:
I don't agree with the writing minimum. That ticks my off. Like when I'm taking to, for example, my friend Emily. She would be like "Wanna RP?" and the only thing I can say is "Sure!"

Re: Stricter Rules
Well, generally, "sure" would be followed by, "who should start?" "I'll start," "you should start," or even the RP post itself. Thus, it would be within the ten character limit. If Emily wanted to get around it, she could be like, "Hey! Wanna RP, Cassie?" Annoying to have to do that, maybe, but it's for the greater good. :3
