Re: Wolf Chasers
Mkay, well, I got in late last night as I usually do on Thursdays, so I haven't had a chance to write yet. xD But I'll see about getting off sooner than usual so I can write more, then come back and post it. And if I can't post it today, I will tomorrow.

Re: Wolf Chasers
Mkay, I've got more, but not a whole lot. xD I at least know where the story's going to end now, though. So here it is!
I wrinkled my nose. He was right, but I’d still hate to have her turned against me. “I guess. But she is going to hate me, I swear. She was flirting with you a lot.”
“Was she? I didn’t notice.” His voice was overly innocent.
I rolled my eyes, yet couldn’t help but laugh. “You’re such a liar.”
The day passed pretty quickly, which was good and bad. Good because the faster time went the sooner my arms would heal, but bad because the faster it passed, the sooner Leo would have to get back to his cabin. But as it turned out, we had an inturruption even before then.
Some time during the afternoon, a vicious, bloodthirsty howl resonated from just outside of camp. I’d been half asleep, laying in Leo’s arms, but sat up straight with shock when I heard the noise.
“Holy sh-” Before Leo could finish yelling, another howl sounded, even louder.
“What’s going on?!” I said, alarmed, as I yanked myself away from Leo to lurch to my feet. The scent of Wilds drifted into my strong nose - Wild wolves. It made me want to groan; not again!
“It’s the whole pack,” Leo snarled, heading towards the door with a purpose in his step. “Stay here!”
“But - if they’re attacking the Tribe - I have to help!”
“No!” he ordered, whirling around to stare at me with a pair of surprisingly agonized eyes. “Lupa, you can’t! You’ll only hurt yourself more. You have two bad arms; you can’t fight. They’ll kill you. They’ll finish you.”
The last three words came out in a whisper, the softness of which eased me a little bit out of my frightened posture. Leo raced back towards me, hugging me to him, firmly, but gently, so as not to hurt me. He crushed my face against his in a desperate kiss, then murmured, “Please, Lupa. Stay here. Stay safe.”
“But - but - what if they come? Knock down the house?”
“I’ll protect you. I won’t let them hurt you; I’ll stay near until every last one of the wolves is gone. Trust me, Lupa. You’ll be safe.” His eyes burned passionately at mine, and my heart just about melted to hear his words - so, I nodded meekly.
Leo released me. “Now stay here,” he said, pointing at the couch. I sat reluctantly back down, and then he hurried back out the door just as another of the wolves howled.

Re: Wolf Chasers
I almost snuck out after him, but then the desperate look in Leo’s eyes came back to me. So I stayed on the couch, curling up to appear smaller, whimpering quietly to myself. There were snarls outside - lots of them, loud enough to hurt my ears. I crept over to the front of the cabin, peeping out - the Tribe and the Wilds were fighting relentlessly. I watched in dismay as one bit into my father’s back, then felt relieved as a few others came to his rescue.
But nowhere could I see Leo.
My eyes scanned the fighting figures again and again, and I must have stood there for ten minutes trying to find his Essence among the others. That was when my heart went cold. Had something happened to him?!
But he’d said he’d be nearby . . . maybe he was just hiding? Trying to keep the pair of us safe, even if it put the rest of the Tribe in danger? It wasn’t a very honorable thing to do, but I had to admit that Leo might.
I watched with wide, terrified eyes as everyone continued fighting. It seemed to go on for the longest time, especially with my worry, wondering whether Leo was hiding, or if something had happened. I could barely stand the suspense. I wished I was out there, too.
Then, something happened. There was a snarl from out in the trees - it was Leo’s snarl. Relief flooded through my veins - and then, confusion. The Wilds all broke away from the Tribe, suddenly, racing with vicious faces into the trees. After Leo. The rest of the Tribe just watched with bewilderment, then started murmuring to each other. I bet they were wondering whether the Wilds were really gone. I bet they didn’t care whether Leo was okay.
Without another moment’s hesitation, I raced out of the house, following the Wilds’ trail. Adrenaline drove my mind, so I barely noticed the surprised expressions of the others as I flew past, barely noticed the throbbing in my arms as I pumped them to help me run faster. But I couldn’t go fast enough to catch up to the Wild wolves, or even gain on them. I just heard their snarls far ahead, and could do nothing but keep running, hoping to all hope that Leo at least was faster.
Finally, I stopped, slouching against a tree. Every breath I took hurt my lungs, but gradually, that pain slipped away as I regained my energy and breath. My legs were buzzing now, though, from running so fast and so far. I could tell I was far beyond our Tribe’s usual boundaries - it was rare we came out this far into the forest. Too many Wilds.
I heard a snap then, and with a yelp, tried to climb up the tree. But I was bad enough at climbing without my hurt arms, so I could barely even get off the ground. And then, it came out of the bushes - a squirrel.
I started breathing again. Thank God it hadn’t been a Wild, or I’d be dead.

Re: Wolf Chasers
Thanks, guys!! :3 I don't have time this month to write any more . . . but as soon as November's over or I finish the novel I'm working on currently (whichever comes last), I'll definitely get back to work on this.
Re: Wolf Chasers
The squirrel scampered away until it got into the safety of another tree, obviously frightened of me . . . suddenly I felt so alone. So I started running again, hoping to find Leo, and help him fight the Wilds if I had to. At least then I wouldn’t be so . . . by myself.
----- Then, there they were - I could hear them. Letting out a sigh of relief, I forced my legs, which were shaking with exhaustion, to go even faster. There was nothing I desired more at this moment than to join in with the snarls echoing not far off.
----- When I was within viewing distance, I quickly hid myself behind the nearest thick tree trunk I could find. Breathing heavily, I leaned against the back of the trunk and glanced around to make sure I wasn’t being watched. What now? I couldn’t very well change shape with a broken arm . . . but I couldn’t bear to turn back now. So I peered around the edge of the tree, watching.
----- Suddenly I hid a gasp, my hands flying to my mouth to hold back the noise. There wasn’t any fighting yet . . . just a lot of growling, as Leo slowly paced backwards and watched the wolves as they approached. But at that very moment, a recognizable red cat flew out at the wolves with a snarl.
----- What was Feli doing?
----- No! Leo roared, charging forward with a vicious expression to try and protect her. But he couldn’t get there in time, and was instead herded away by a pair of the wolves. So the two of us could do nothing but watch, wanting desperately to help but unable to do so, as one of the wolves bit into Feli and shook her like a rat. A screech echoed through the air, as Feli suddenly was tossed against the ground, and then silence.
----- Then something even more stunning happened - the rest of the tribe charged at the wolves, attacking them like the monsters had attacked my friend. I watched in amazement . . . it wasn’t long before several of the wolves, distracted by their small victory, had been murdered. The rest quickly fled the area, startled and bewildered - too much so to be able to fight back.
----- A huge lungful of air escaped me, and I twisted back around to lean back against the scratchy bark. The Tribe was safe . . . for now.
----- I should’ve been at home, so eventually I just sat quietly there on the ground, listening. Nobody had left . . . I didn’t dare to look now, in case the Tribe saw me, but I could hear well enough what was going on . . . Feli was gone.
----- This was the main reason I hid, even stronger than my will to not get caught. Because I didn’t want anyone to see the silent tears creeping from my eyes, didn’t want to break out into sobs, didn’t want to feel any guiltier. I felt that I should’ve been able to do something to help Feli, at the least . . . but I hadn’t. All I’d been able to do was sit there and watch.
----- The sky grew dark, and eventually, the tribe started drifting back towards home. Feli’s sobbing mother carried the dead cat’s body, her husband beside her with his arm around her shoulders. It took all of my self-control not to join those two, but I knew I needed to wait and sneak back alone. No matter how dangerous the Wilds might be.
----- As I was just about to stand and follow Perin back, the last one to leave, my eyes suddenly took in a flash of blue coming from the opposite direction. Curiously, I glanced over, and instantly was worried. The blue was Leo’s Essence, slowly padding in the opposite direction as all the others. His tail was low, his paws quiet, his ears laid back. After a moment he returned to his human form, but the stance he carried was much the same as before.
----- I couldn’t control myself then. Not even caring if anyone noticed me, I raced after him. “Leo!” I called out in a whisper as I came up to him.
----- He turned around, his face becoming shocked. “Lupa? What are you doing out here?”
----- “I saw the Wilds come after you. I couldn’t stay behind. I couldn’t,” I whispered. My arms were aching to throw themselves around him, but there was a strange atmosphere around my Leo . . . something was wrong.
----- “You should’ve stayed home,” he sighed. But I didn’t miss what was hiding in his eyes.
----- “Leo . . . what’s going on? Why aren’t you going back with the others?” I asked, my eyes going wide with anxiety. I was internally pleading that he’d say he just needed to be alone . . . but I had a feeling that even so, it’d be a more permanent lonesomeness.
----- “It was all a mistake,” he answered hoarsely, reaching for my face, but suddenly letting his hand drop. “Everything. This was the wrong Tribe to come to.”
----- “What do you mean?” I asked, stepping closer. My desperate face was only inches away from his now.
----- Leo looked away, then finally back into my eyes. After a few agonizing seconds of silence, he spoke. “The Wilds hate my Secnesse. It escaped them years ago when they tried to kill him, and it’s been in danger ever since. I thought maybe I could hide here, since there were so few Wilds compared to around some of the other Tribes I’d tried . . . but even so I couldn’t get away. They forced me to go wolf chasing with them . . . it was stupid. I should’ve fought against it, but I gave in. That was my first huge mistake.”
----- “What was the second?” I whispered nervously.
----- “The second . . . it was saving you.”
----- Pain flashed through my face, and I looked down, starting to step back. “Oh.”
----- Before I could finish the step, though, Leo pulled me against him. His arms were firm around me, and I might not have been able to free myself even if I’d wanted to. But when Leo fiercely pressed his lips to mine, I lost any desire to get away from him.
----- “I only said it was a mistake,” he whispered, breathing heavily as he pulled away. His eyes smoldered at me. “I never said I regretted it.”
----- That did make me smile.
----- “That basically WEREWOLFED! the HEAVEN! out of them,” he said with a weak laugh. “Fighting them, and slipping right through their claws again, but this time with you. They’ll probably never give up again, those wolves . . . I have to leave. Because they’ll keep attacking your Tribe . . . it wouldn’t be fair to the rest of you. I need to hide again.”
----- Instantly, the happiness left me. My face again because sorrowful, as I whispered with anguish, “You’re . . . leaving?”
----- Leo pulled my head against his chest. “I have to, Lupa. I have to . . .” Suddenly a grin flashed across his face. “But this doesn’t have to be goodbye.”
----- “What do you mean?” I whispered, peeking up at him.
----- He kissed me again, before murmuring, “You could come with me.”
----- My breath caught and my eyes widened. “You want me to come?”
----- “Yeah,” he said, grinning wider. “I’ve never met anyone like you, Lupa. We technically don’t belong together, considering our species . . . but I might go mad, trying to stay away. Come with me. Please?”
----- Carefully, I considered it. I was leaving behind my Tribe . . . everything I’d known. My childhood, my friends and family . . . they would be so worried.
----- But if I didn’t, Leo would go alone. And if I said goodbye, I’d never get the chance to go . . . it was now or never. Leo couldn’t risk leading the wolves back to the Tribe now.
----- “Yes,” I whispered, grinning as I reached up to plant my lips on his.
The end.
