MyBB Update

I'm not sure how much I've already said thus far to people besides the moderators, so I'm sorry if any of this is stuff you've heard before. XD

On the 27th of this month, we will be transferring Twig over to a paid hosting - from Forumotion software to MyBB. This transfer will begin on Tuesday, the twenty-seventh. We're not positive on how long it'll take, though at the most, we're expecting it to take until the end of the month.

During Monday, I'll be making preparations for the transfer. BBcode and smileys will be turned off, thus displaying them just as text, and the blog section will be switched to a regular forum so that we don't lose all those posts. On MyBB, there's a more bloggish blog section, though, and there won't really be a way to convert those blogs back to blogs. Most likely we'll archive them, or set them aside in some closed section that won't allow new threads (and probably posts). But anyway, the purpose of turning the bbcode and smileys off is that it allows the converter to properly switch them over. That way, when we get it turned on for the MyBB version, we'll still have smileys and formatting and everything.

Links will be a little messed up, unless we find a way to fix that after all. See, each topic here has a number . . . like, the very first topic made is number one or something, and so on in order. This number is a part of the link. But when it got transferred in a test the last time, the numbers were in reverse order. The most recent thread made was number one (or whichever the numbers all start at), and the first had a really high number. So, you're probably going to need to update links you've posted if we can't fix this.

I can't really think of anything else . . . um, we won't have descriptions? Anything else I'm missing?

Anyway, so, I believe that's an almost-complete update of everything you'll need to be aware of.

Now, any posts made after the converter begins its work are not going to be switched over . . . can't really do anything about that. So, I think we decided that, to avoid this being an issue, we won't leave all of the forums open for posting on. We'll put a WCT up, and leave the chatbox open, and of course you'll still be able to converse through VMs and PMs, but that's all unless you guys want to riot and demand that the forums be left open (feel free to, really, though keep in mind that there's only a few days for this decision to be made).

I don't see any problem with leaving them open, you see, but . . . well, personally, I know I post several times a day, and it'd be a pain to make sure anything crucial like roleplay replies were reposted on MyBB. Maybe you guys won't mind, though, so like I said, protest if you'd really like the whole forum to remain open. As this version of Twig is free, there's no harm in leaving it up, so we're gonna be doing so - you'll easily be able to transfer any necessary posts over to MyBB, therefore.

So yeah, I think that's everything. Mostly I just wanted to let you guys know when this is happening and stuff, before it was . . . like, the day. XD

*gasp* The twenty-seventh!? *counts on fingers* That's only 3 days!

Lol, oh, depression, Komo. XD That's exactly what I felt last night when I was thinking about it. Just like, the lack of a purpose . . . I spend hours on Twig every day, so what else am I going to do while it's being converted?! D:

I guess my point is that I understand. And that . . . I'm trying not to think about Rocus and Bree anymore, lolol, cus now that I've gone to confession I'm doing my best not to get caught up in that again. XD Though if I may indulge, I'd like to say that I'd love to see their babies running around! Children are wonderful! (And I promise I don't mean it in a suggestive way. XD I like the plot involved with having children is all.)

Shadow, I don't think I could stand missing all of the RP's. Perhaps it wouldn't be a bad idea to keep them open? I mean when Mybb opens we can just quote the posts when needed and therefore continue Rping there?

When the MyBB version is ready for everyone to move over there, I'll reopen the forums and post a link in the announcements.

Well, Alyssa, if others are in favor of that, I'm fine with it! ^^ People were complaining, so . . .

Mia, can you explain to me how that would negatively impact the roleplay for you? I'm just having a hard time figuring it out myself, so yeah. Because all the other posts would still be converted, after all - it's only the ones made during the conversion process that wouldn't be on MyBB, and as Alyssa said, you could always copy and paste them over, or quote them there, then resume roleplaying like normal.

I think I'd rather not have the RP sections open, actually, because if I'm not there I'll feel like I'm missing out, but I really don't want to have to bring everything over to the MyBB site... That's just me, though.

Plus, it'll take away some distractions and I might actually get some writing done. xD

All of the DBDs [at Part 7 now] were based on T x L somehow. Except for the first.
And adding the colors takes too much time.

That is a good point, Ratty. ^^ It's one of the reasons I'm trying to make myself not freak out over this, because . . . well, I need to do something productive. XD Maybe I can get some more of Dragon Soul done for once, since I'm not actually doing anything regarding the literal conversion. Just the setup once it's all online.

I see what you mean, Mia. Although, if people do end up preferring things to stay open, there's not much I'll be able to do . . . but I at least see where you're coming from.

Keep the Archives closed then, 'o course. Most of em' are there, now.
And as for the Multiple And Other section just throw every other RP that's open in another section for now [Possibly the Other section] and keep the DBDs that are still there [including the current one] there. And just close down the Multiple And Other, only. If possible.

To elaborate on what Mia said, which is indeed correct, it's because if we leave all the bbcode and smileys like this, then they'll convert into html over there rather than bbcode.

Lol, though, but think of it this way: First of all, it's not a whole week we're talking about. Four days at the most. Second of all, if you don't mind not making actual posts, you could RP in PMs. Thirdly, even if you don't wanna do that, you could spend those four days planning roleplays, working on really long replies, stuff like that. ^^ (See, I don't know how long your replies usually are, but mine can be up to like 1k, so they can take a while.)

Mia, all DBD's will be converted, just posts made DURING the conversion will not be on MyBB. The threads and such will, but the posts made on that day or during the days that they move the stuff will not appear on the new site.

Yeah, like, if we were to convert it right now, this whole thread would be converted. But if you guys kept posting, then the thread would still be converted - just without the posts made after this one.

Drafts . . . hmm, I don't believe so. I'd recommend just saving them yourself, since they won't be removed from this version of Twig or anything.
