He resisted the urge to wrap a comforting arm around her shoulders as he'd always done when they were smaller. He gently pushed her up straight so she wasn't leaning on him and stood up, swallowing hard. "You're not fine. We both know that. But there are things that you don't know, and I'm not going to tell you." He turned away, his face hard, and strode down the hall.

"James..." Lily whispered, staring after him. There had always been things he hid from her, since she was younger than he was, but he had never left her, never ever, and she had thought he never would. But here he was, walking away from her when she needed him most. Inside, her heart began to fall as she watched his retreating form until it hit rock bottom, and she curled up in a ball and cried.

It's hard trying to protect everything your family lives for.

Lily whispered, sitting up and wiping her eyes with the unhurt arm. the cut- or rather, bite- on her arm was throbbing with pain, and she could feel a trickle of blood making it's way down her arm. "Where did James go?" She asked, leaning against the wall with teary eyes and looking up at her cousin. "He left me here. Where did he go?"

"I don't know," he replied honestly, shrugging. He glanced down, his eyes widening at the sight of the blood, as he had no idea about his cousins' wolf problem. "Wait, what happened to you?"

"Stupid werewolf bit me on the arm. What did we do in class today?" She asked, stumbling to her feet and leaning against the wall as she paled. "James seems to be having a rough time accepting it, to tell you the truth. He just keeps running away from me." She rubbed her arm gently, trying to numb the the pain away. "I haven't seen Luke around either- don't know what he's doing." She gave a soft sigh. "Werewolf bites make people confused apparently, Hugo. I don't understand anything right now."

"Yeah. It hurts." She said calmly, leaning against the wall. "But I'm only gonna turn at every blue moon- the second full moon in a month- so it's not that bad. The horrible part is the fact that it freaking burns my arm off." Lily rubbed her arm as it started to burn again. "Where's Rose?" She asked with curiosity as she pushed off the wall to walk back to the hosptial wing and lie down. "And does she know yet? By the way, don't tell anyone- we really don't want news like this getting out. Please don't tell, Hugo, please."

"Come on- I'm real tired." Lily let go of her cousin gently, starting to walk towards the hospital wing. "James, where are you?" She whispered almost to herself. "I miss you." She wanted James with her, wanted the comforting arms of her brother around her, wanted him to tell her she would be okay just like he did all the time.

I was searching for the werewolf.
Tonight was a full moon, therefore whoever wasn't at dinner tonight/ at class tomorrow was a potential suspect. I didn't have a clue who it was yet, since Lily didn't remember, so I was on this case alone. No one knew that Lils was a wolf except me, James, her, Rose and Hugo, and we planned to keep it that way. And how would I explain that I knew there was a werewolf here? So I was on this alone.

What if I don't live up to them?

James left the kitchen, sneaking back up the corridor towards the entrance hall. He had gone for an early dinner before the sun set, hoping it would maybe ease the wolf's bloodthirsty nature a little. He doubted it would work, but it was worth a shot...

"Hey James." I gave him a small smile as I leaned against the entrance hall door, hoping that whoever the werewolf was would come through there. Obviously, that wasn't going to happen- most likely they'd use some secret passageway since they don't want people to know- but it was still worth a shot. Lily was asleep already- full moons tired her out, even if it wasn't a blue moon- so I was doing this completly alone. "Want to help me look for the monster than turned Lily?" I asked in a whisper, my eyes glancing around for anyone that wasn't where they were supposed to be.
What if I don't live up to them?

James gave a start. He truthfully hadn't noticed his brother until he'd spoken, too preoccupied bracing himself for the coming horror of the night ahead. "Oh - um - no thanks," he muttered, silently cursing his brother for being so determined about this. He'd have to find another way out of the castle now, and he didn't have long till sunset... "I'm - really tired, so I'm just gonna - go to bed..." He turned and started walking away.

...Right?
