Re: Candlewood [Chapter VIII Finished.]
Eh. Maybe. I'll keep it in mind, but I need to think of what's in the next part... Lol. This is hard to write, because it's one of those stories I didn't map out before I started typing.

Chapter IX:
"Dooweldnac?" Deryck asked with a small smirk, raising his eyebrows. Scarlette beamed, flashing her set of sharp, yet gorgeous white teeth. Deryck smiled back, unaware that he was showing the same teeth.
"Apparently my ancestors weren't very creative... It's Candlewood backwards, though it does have a kind of mysterious ring to it." She nodded, slightly amused. "By the way, did you know that merpeople live five times as long as humans?"
"Five?" Deryck asked, half mockingly.
"Yes, five." She swam up close to him, their lips were half an inch from eachother. Even in the water, Deryck could feel her sweet breath on his face. "Guess how old I am." She whispered.
"Hmmm..." Deryck contemplated. "Twenty?"
"Twenty!?" Scarlette gasped. "Oh, I wish. I remember being twenty. I'm forty-seven, which in "human" time is about seventeen years old."
"You're old." He whispered as he kissed her gently.
Scarlette smiled and did a few tricks in the water. "Come on, little one."
Deryck and Scarlette swam forward toward the city's main attraction; the castle. It was enormous, tall towers, bridges, a moat, and it seemed to be holding up the island in the middle of the lake. The structure was unbelievable, what made Deryck gasp was the fact that it was made entirely out of boats. He stopped suddenly; looking at the doors of the castle almost made him throw up. On the side of the door, read words in deep italics. "The Islander"
"That's my dad's boat." Deryck said through clenched teeth. Scarlette looked down, avoiding his gaze.
"Deryck... I"
"Stop. Let's go see your father." Deryck said as the doors opened and they swam inside.
They entered the throne room quietly, unsure of what fate had in store for them.
"Well, well, Scarlette. Look what you've done now." A voice behind them said.

Chapter X:
"Father, I know what you're thinking. Please, don't do anything drastic." Scarlette said, swimming in front of Deryck. Her purple eyes became harsh. The King snarled under his breath, and smacked his tail in the water, propelling himself toward the two.
"Scarlette, move. You know nothing." He smacked her across the face. She looked down and then back up to scratch him with her long nails. Blood swirled around in the water. "You." The King said, pointing his tridant at Deryck. "Your tail. Do you know what it means?"
"No." Deryck answered truthfully. He moved his tail from side to side, feeling awkward and not yet used to the use of one muscle to move it.
The King smiled, though it wasn't a very happy smile. "Your tail, what color is it, Deryck?" He asked almost teasingly. Deryck looked down.
"Gold?" He decided, not seeing what the purpose of this conversation was.
"Precisely." The King went past the throne to a door, made of of the same boats, and opened it. A hallway was opened up. "Come with me." He led Deryck down the hallway, where Gold scales lined the walls, names written under them. "These are the scales of all of the past kings of Dooweldnac. One scale from each King."
"But I thought merpeople lived longer than humans?" Deryck asked.
"Oh, they do." The King answered. "See, when a merman is made, or born, and he has a golden tail, much like yours, he automatically is the heir to the throne. However, the current King usually fights with him. Which brings us to you."
He swam toward Deryck, who swam out the door to Scarlette.
"Scarlette! I-My-Tail... What?" He stuttered.
"This should have never happened..." She said. The King swam toward him in a fury, trident pointed right at Deryck.
"I'll fix your mistake for you, Scarlette." The King said furiously.
