Re: The Voices in My Head: Part III
[R] Ax was in the air by now; Cassie was halfway to osprey. The others and I were human and sprinting flat-out. My arms itched as a feather pattern spread across my skin.

-----Cody nodded. "That's . . . nice . . ." He was failing to keep the hurt out of his expression. "I . . . um . . . I think I have to go," he mumbled, turning around and starting to walk away.
-----Come on, Jake, hurry! Shadow thought, risking a glance back. The Hork-Bajir were almost caught up . . . half a block, now.[/b]

Re: The Voices in My Head: Part III
[J] I finished my morph and joined Tobias, Shadow, Ax, and Cassie in the air. Below me I could see Rachel, Marco and Annie morphing rapidly, but maybe not fast enough. <Hurry,> I urged them. <They're right on your tail.>

Re: The Voices in My Head: Part III
Shadow groaned, looking back. The Hork-Bajir were so close, and really looking angry. If she could've, she would've pleaded with the others to hurry, too.
Re: The Voices in My Head: Part III
[J] Rachel joined us in the air. Marco was nearly finished with his morph, but Annie, being the least experienced, was behind.

-----Come on. Hurryhurryhurry . . . Inhaling deeply, Shadow started circling where she was. Come on. Keep them from catching up. You can do it. It looked a lot harder than it would be, though . . . seriously. Even she was a little intimidated by all those freakishly tall dinosaur-like creatures, now that she could see how many there really were. And she hadn't fought them yet . . . what if they could hurt her?
Re: The Voices in My Head: Part III
The Hork-Bajir were nearly on me now, and I was only half morphed. I was far enough that they wouldn't be able to tell that I was human, but not enough to fly or even to run properly. They were gaining with every step and there was nothing I could do.
Tseeeeeeer!
I twisted my partially-feathered head around to see Tobias dive-bombing the lead Hork-Bajir, raking his sharp hawk talons across the bladed alien's eyes and then flying up sharply just ahead of the blades that flashed after him.

Re: The Voices in My Head: Part III
-----Shadow took a deep breath, and plunged down after Tobias as well. She opened her beak wide and let out one of those noises that eagles make, and scraped out the eyes of another Hork-Bajir.
-----Unfortunately, though, she overestimated herself in this form. The Hork-Bajir slashed up at her with its blades, and she didn't bother getting out of the way . . . but let out a startled screech as they sliced into her right wing.
-----She did her best to get back into the air, despite the blood flowing from her hurting wing, and suddenly realized she wasn't always as invincible as in her vampire form. Apparently she didn't have the rock hard skin here after all. Great, she sighed, glancing with a worried expression at the wing. It was a struggle to stay up here . . . she'd probably have to land soon.

Re: The Voices in My Head: Part III
"Being heroic.. its useless when you know your going to be pounded to the after life by the villain." Dar'Khan replied simply, his cold gaze meeting her simply heroic gaze.
Re: The Voices in My Head: Part III
-----That did it. A livid expression crossed Kayla's face. "Oh, so you're assuming that you're stronger, just because I'm a girl, huh?" she said through clenched teeth.
Re: The Voices in My Head: Part III
The rest of them began diving as well, but there wasn't much a flock of birds could do against a horde of Hork-Bajir.
<Shadow, get out,> I heard Jake order.
<Aah!>
<Marco, you too. Annie, speed it up!>
<I'm trying!> I called desperately.

Re: The Voices in My Head: Part III
-----But, she didn't want to. Shadow hated to be the one who was weaker, and getting out even just for a moment . . . that would be annoying at the least.
-----But she had no way to communicate . . . so it was pointless. Reluctantly, she started flying towards one of the buildings. Maybe I can at least just rest for a few seconds . . .
-----Every wingbeat was becoming harder and harder. She really should've gone sooner. The city swam before her eyes, and when Shadow finally reached the top of a building - the nearest thing she could think of to land on - she landed very clumsily, stumbling and then just collapsing.
-----Dang it . . .

Re: The Voices in My Head: Part III
[M] I almost crashlanded beside her, my head spinning from the pain that throbbed from the place where my back had been laid open by a Hork-Bajir wrist blade. I made sure I was hidden behind the shallow gutter and began to demorph, trying to focus.

Re: The Voices in My Head: Part III
-----Shadow didn't demorph quite yet - she was trying to collect her senses. Through the now searing pain in her wing and her shock that this had even happened, it was hard to function at all.
-----"Stupid, stupid, stupid," she started muttering.
-----"Stupid, stupid, stupid," she started muttering.
Re: The Voices in My Head: Part III
[M] As the pain lessened my demorph sped up. When I was human enough to lift my head I peered cautiously over the edge of the gutter. Annie was almost completely bird now, but not enough to fly. Maybe her bones hadn't hollowed out yet. The Hork-Bajir were only steps away.

Re: The Voices in My Head: Part III
-----Shadow finally just gave in and returned to her normal vampire form. She let out a sigh of relief as the pain vanished, and ran her hand through her hair before going to the edge. Near Marco now, she joined him in looking over, and winced. "Crap."
-----The lack of energy still remained in her, though, for some reason. It'd been a struggle just to walk over here . . . she didn't think she could even handle going back down, even if just to bash a few of the Hork-Bajir.

Re: The Voices in My Head: Part III
I could hear them right behind me. Another second or two and they'd be on me. I flapped my wings, trying desperately to fly, but I was still too heavy. A Hork-Bajir blade swiped forward, cutting off the ends of my tail feathers.

Re: The Voices in My Head: Part III
-----Biting her lip, Shadow muttered, "Screw this." She leapt over the edge of the building, letting the ground rush towards her, and smiling. The tired vampire stumbled as she landed, but raced towards the Hork-Bajir nearest to Annie. Even when going slowly like this, she was still able to get there fast enough to tackle the creature with a snarl.
-----No, no, no! she reminded herself. You can't hurt it!

Re: The Voices in My Head: Part III
The confusion gave me enough time to finish the morph and take off. I flapped hard, trying to get enough altitude to catch a thermal before the Hork-Bajir organized themselves and went after me again.

Re: The Voices in My Head: Part III
Shadow pulled away from the startled creatures as Annie took off, and raced away from them. She turned into the eagle again midstride, and followed Annie into the air, trying to ignore her exhaustion. Come on, Annie, get high enough . . .
Re: The Voices in My Head: Part III
[M] <Marco, morph as fast as you can,> Jake said. <Meet us at Cassie's.>
I nodded and began morphing.

Re: The Voices in My Head: Part III
-----When she was finally high enough, Shadow swirled around in the air, half following Jake and half watching the Hork-Bajir below them. They were watching them, and quite angrily.
Re: The Voices in My Head: Part III
The rest of them spread out and began taking roundabout detours to Cassie's. I circled above Marco, waiting for him to morph.

Re: The Voices in My Head: Part III
Shadow made herself fly extra high to avoid being seen, but she just didn't have the energy to find a different route to Jake's or even turn into a less conspicuous bird. Besides, she didn't even know the way - or know if she was even welcome to go with the others. She trailed some distance behind Jake all the same, hoping that it was okay.
