Jasper wrapped his arms around her in turn, resting his chin on top of her head. "You don't ruin everything, Amanda. Please, don't be sad."

I smiled at him in turn, heart fluttering slightly. I took one last glance at the little stone, and nodded once. "Yes." I replied quietly, glancing back up at him.

"Well, I ruin almost everything." I sighed. "I've got to go apologize before Leach decides I'm not going to and leaves." I kissed his cheek gently and walked out.
"Alright." I lifted her gently into my arms.

I couldn't help but yawn very quietly, my eyes suddenly becoming heavy. I nestled up against his chest, wriggling around until I found myself at least close to comfortable, and my eyes drifted closed a little. "Alec?" I asked him, "Is there anywhere you would like to visit?"

Leach was in the livingroom, humming quietly. "The king and his men, stole the queen from her bed..." He sang quietly. It was an eerie, and almost sad sounding song.

"Leach?" I walked down the stairs quietly, making sure I didn't trip over my own feet. This would be the worst time to start bleeding. "I'm really sorry. I was just mad, but that's no excuse. I just feel... like you don't know what it's like to be human. You and Toby and Hayden and Jasper and everyone else are so... used to this life, it's like you forgot about human life. I know you didn't, but it's not like you put it into play all the time. Cassandra's the only one I can really relate to, and even she doens't understand it all."

I blushed a little, feeling slight color rising to my face. I smiled a little, despite how cold his finger felt against my lips. "I'm just curious." I replied, "You know almost everything about my old life."

"...and bound her in her bones..." Leach continued quietly, averting his gaze. When he was upset, he was solemn and silent. "Amaya is the youngest out of us all." He spoke when she was done, "And she seems to have clung to the happiness of her mortal life." He continued, "But for most of us; those who have lived long... we tent to... forget. Some of us."

I smiled a little, "But not all," I confirmed with a nod, nestling back into his arms again. "I want to know what your life was like." I admitted truthfully.

Leach nodded slowly, "Try I do." He sighed a little bit. "I know just how easily one can be killed. Even vampires, nowadays. Humans are advancing; all they need to know is that we exist..." He shook off the thought.

I watched Steph, a small smile on my face. "You cn do it." I whispered, keeping up my bubbly personality. Jasper's face appeared at the window as we pulled up to a hotel. I put my finger on my lips, motioning him to be very quiet, and opened the door, sniffling slightly.

"Amaya Fred Nobody, I am very pleased to see you once again." I giggled and stepped inside. The lights flickered slightly but stayed on. "Tsk, tsk, Amanda, learn to control your powers." Jasper teased.

Jacob the clone's clone's eyes widened slightly, and his grip on the phone tightened. He knew instantly who this was . . . he could recognize her voice anywhere. Stephanie. "Steph?" His voice was surprised. Quite obviously, he wanted to know why she was calling . . . after all this time. She'd been avoiding him so much; he was just glad he didn't care so much anymore.

Well . . . he didn't sound like he hated her, but she couldn't entirely tell. "Um. Hey. Can I . . . ask you a really really weird question?" Her voice was just a little less intimidated now. Stephanie glanced back at Amanda, and found Jasper had got into the car as well. She smiled slightly, but quickly remembered she should be focusing on the road now. It was bad enough playing Mario Kart with one hand, and this was the real thing. Sorta.

"Sure . . . if I can ask you one first." Jacob laughed, too.

Stephanie nervously pressed her lips together for a moment, then answered. "All right . . ."

"Why haven't I heard from you in so long? I mean . . . don't get mad, please . . . but it's like you're avoiding me."

"I'm sorry," she whispered, wincing. "I was. Because . . . well, you liked me so much, and I didn't like you that way, so I thought it'd be smarter to stay away than risk hurting you or anything. Even though I know how patient you are." Stephanie let out a weak laugh. "Which is kinda what I wanted to ask about . . . do you still like me that much?"

Maybe he was just fooling himself, but Steph kinda sounded like she hoped so. All the same, Jacob was certain of his answer. "Well . . . no. I'm sure you're glad to hear it." He let out a laugh, and didn't bother to explain why - because he liked Chloe instead.

Oh. Stephanie's face flickered, but she quickly put a happy expression on her face so that it'd reflect in her voice. "Oh, okay. Yeah . . . I'm glad. Cus I didn't really mind, but it's . . . better. Not awkward, you know?" She laughed, but the sound was rather hollow to her.

Oh, good, she apparently didn't hope so. Jacob chuckled. "Yeah."

"So I guess I'll see you around? I mean it this time." Stephanie laughed. "No more avoiding you, I promise - of course, you might not see me for a few more days anyway, cus I'm in the middle of Italy right now . . ."

What was she doing out there? "Oh - um - yeah - why're you out there? Something wrong?"

"Oh - well, they tried to kidnap Amanda, but that's all sorted out now," Stephanie said with a small laugh. No need to name who 'they' was; he would know.

"Ah, okay. Well, that's good . . . I'll catch ya later?" Jacob smiled to himself.

"Yeah." Steph had to put a smile on her face, too, though her eyes were sad. There goes my only other chance. "Bye Jake."

"Bye."

Letting out a sigh, Stephanie shut the phone off and tossed it back to Amanda.

"Oh, you should've seen Hailey earlier. She made the lights go out altogether as soon as Leach left the room-- it was like she was waiting for the boy to leave!" Amaya grinned, laughing a little. Hailey's powers were only just developing, so all Amanda got were her first-stage powers; the laughter.

"Peoples!" Cried Hailey, jumping into Jasper and Amanda's arms.

Okay, no, not keeping that! xD It feels . . . um . . . blasphemous? I originally had "Maybe Christ would come back."))

Jacob laughed, relaxing a little bit, but staring at the door. Maybe Chris would come back . . . "Nothing in particular. He seems suspicious of me, though . . ." He relaxed even further as he heard he singing fading down the hall, and focused his attention on Chloe's face with a grin.

"Jane was there every day. Do you really want to hear about it?"
"Is that why Aro is so... nitpicky?" I asked slowly, taking his tone as 'I forgive you'. "Because you're kind is decreasing?"

"I'm sorry Steph." I whispered, my voice thick. I was going back into my "sick mode", as I called it. "Talk to you when I feel better again.... I'm sorry." The last sentence came out scratchy and weak. "Stephanie, we're here." Jasper helped me out; I could still walk and function, and would be for a while, but not talk. "Charles Ritter." He said quickly at the front desk. The receptionist nodded, looking gazy-eyed at Jasper. "Shhh." Jasper soothed. "It's normal for humans to become... attracted. Shhh."

I paused for a second, suddenly becoming curious. I tilted my head just a bit, "Was she different?" I asked suddenly. "I mean... when she was human?" I added, blinking my large eyes.

Leach nodded once, "Yes, that probably is why. We are few in numbers, compared to the humans. If they all knew about us, we'd be in grave danger; it's hundreds--thousands, if we're very, very lucky-- verses billions."

"What do you mean?" I asked, trying to change the subject. "Look, it's getting late. We need to be getting back."
"But we- erm, sorry, they- die easier, don't they?" I asked, the remainder of my tears rolling down. "You won't go up against them, will you Leach? I can't imagine losing any one of you."

"I don't know, Amanda... if they attack us, then we must defend ourselves, at the least. We could take them..." I Hope... he added quietly in his mind, unsure of himself.

"Okay..." But I was still nervous. If I lost any of them... Leach, Toby, Hayden, Lily, Jasper, Amaya, John, Sally, Catherine, Leslie, Alyssa, Jodi, Emerald, [any charries I forgot]... life just wouldn't be the same.

"I love you." I replied very quietly, closing my eyes lightly so I wouldn't get that dizzy when seeing the blur-like trees and bushes pass by us. I missed being able to keep my eyes open; but closing them kept me from throwing up, really.

My heart fluttered a little. This was only the second time he had kissed me after my turning to a human. I guess it was because he had to be careful; to keep the habit of drinking human's blood for centuries, and then stopping-- it's a tough habit to shake off.

Leslie appeared beside her, hands folded behind her back. "I'll go outside with you." She offered brightly, smiling.

I opened my eyes, looking down at my hands. "You didn't hurt me." I told him quietly, seeming to guess what he was thinking.

"Emerald, I will never understand how you can manage to know so many words." Leslie giggled slightly. In her voice, one could tell that she had a very slight Irish accent.

"The Maryann ones are disturbing, though... humans being found with their hearts cut from their chest." Leach began quietly, "She always tried to stop her; but she would come in just a minute too late."

I nodded slowly but sadly, resting my head against his chest very lightly. My eyes fluttered closed again, and I wrapped my jacket tighter around myself, getting a sudden chill. "So you'll never risk me ever again?" I asked.

Leslie grinned, scurrying up one of the trees like a little spider. She poked her head above them, and looked around. "I wonder where they are."

I kissed her forehead. "You're cold. Let's go inside."
I followed her. "Look right there." I pointed higher in the tree. "You can see the white feathers."
"And the other part is." I shuddered. "Amanda?" Jasper walked downstairs. "Hey... your hair looks good." He chuckled. "Emerald redid it; Leach ruined it."

I smiled weakly when I felt his cold lips on my forehead. That was good, at least, that he would occasionally kiss me. "Alright." I whispered at last, suddenly beginning to feel very tired.

Leslie smiled a little, and then climbed up so her head was poking over all of the trees. "I wonder where... 'they' are hiding." She wondered, 'they' meaning William, gregory, Maryann, and Elaine.

Leach chuckled, leaning back in his chair and grinning. "Actually, I ruined it first, and then Emerald fixed it."

"Somewhere in the forest." I answered immediatly. "I can feel the disturbance. Something that shouldn't be there."
"Whatever." I lied my head on Jasper's shoulder tiredly. "Sleep, Amanda." He whispered. "Sleep. Leach will talk to you in the morning.... sleep."

I rested my head on the pillow, eyes still closed. I shook my head slowly, "I'm not sleepy..." I lied stubbornly, although my voice was very quiet of how tired I was.

"Something that shouldn't be anywhere." Leslie added in a whisper, "Not in the oceans and not on the land." She shuddered slightly. "But they will get what's theirs."
