I rolled my eyes. I considered telling her she was delusional, that she didn't know what she was talking about... But that would only make matters worse. Instead, I said, "Okay, so let's say this 'Fallen Angel' guy of yours really does exist... I really don't think he'd be that big of a threat. So what, he has fairy powers or whatever. Pfft, I can take him," I stopped with a sigh. I really did sound immature saying such a thing, so I added, "He hurt you, so he'll pay for it. That's what friends do, right?"

Suddenly, it was like the whole room was tilting to one side, her breath caught, and she tried to take another nice, deep one to steady herself. But the longer she inhaled the tighter her throat constricted. Giving up on filling her lungs, she scrambled to the bed’s headboard, slapping her palm over it and onto the wall, as if there was a ghastly bug just sitting there. But, instead she was making sure if the room was really moving, and her gaze flitted everywhere. “The room – Is it... moving, to you, Rocus?” With that she pulled her hand away from the wall and let them both sliver over her face. She rubbed her head and she fell back against the pillows.
“Whoa! – Major head rush...”

I frowned, trying not to show the sick amusement that I had with the whole situation. "Hey, take it easy," I advised her, still sitting parallel to her on the bed. "You'll hurt yourself if you get up too fast; at least let me help you." I extended my black nail polish laden hand for her to take if she wished.

She drew back a few discreet inches away from his hand. “I think I’ll oughta black out,” she told him with a wry smile. “But, oh well. Let it totally bowl me over if I don’t.” She took his hand and pulled herself up at her leisure – Her head most notably hurt when she moved it, after all.

Her skin prickled and she lowered her gaze, pondering other options. There weren’t quite many. “I guess that would be rational,” she mumbled. “With demented thoughts reverberating and bouncing around my skull like a disoriented little swarm of bees. Ugh... bees die after one sting, so these must be hornets, huh?” She smiled with half her mouth. “Okay – I’m just making myself even more nauseous, here...” She paused for a count. “Bugs in my head. Ha-!” She paused for a count, she wondered if her mood was all just because of faint hysteria. “Suuuure...”

I smiled lightly. She sure said the strangest things at time. "Yes, hornets..." I chuckled, "Well, I suppose I'll take that as a yes?" If she was being sarcastic, I didn't catch on to it. I tended to take most things literally, despite not often giving straight answers myself.

I removed my leather jacket, revealing a long-sleeved, black v-neck underneath. I was grateful for my outfit choice; this way she couldn't see the needle marks on my arms. "I suppose you may want to wear this when we go outdoors?" I guessed, offering her the coat in my arms.

“Oooo, so ‘tis is what happens in the circumstances of my wearing nothing but a dumb little camisole,” She contemplated her shirt choice. “That can be easily mistaken for underbodice, even,” She added with a bridged eyebrow easily deferring from the other. She quickly went through the motions of slipping on the leather coat over her tank top. “Hello,” she said jokingly, poorly imitating a low and husky voice. “I’m Rocus, the empty nutshell.”

"Wow, you do a great impression," I snickered saracastically with a sly grin, "Sounds exactly like me!"

I couldn't help but notice how pure she really was. Every other girl I had known, had one night stands with... They would dress just like me: in dark clothes, leather and spikes. They looked filthy, yet I still put up with them. But she... She still managed to look so innocent, so good, even while wearing something like that. I just couldn't wrap my head around it.

Realizing it probably looked like I was checking her out, my eyes snapped back up to hers and I attempted a meek smile.

Some sort of sharp awareness trickled like acid through her veins. A slow torture. Her face fell and disgruntled, as she suddenly began to feel futile. Grief gripping her expression, and her features creased in sorrow. “No! Don’t leave – Stay! Please!” Her voice was but a broken whisper. She sounded like a chain smoker, but it wasn’t in her power to make her voice much more stronger. Her body convulsed and tears burned behind her livid red eyes. What was she going to do? Beg and grovel on her knees for him to stay? That could have been arranged. She questionned herself for abruptly feeling so desperate, despairing, and completely demoralized.

I turned around, confusion striking onto my expression like a lightning bolt. I instantly felt a horrible guilt wretch through my heart when I saw the faint gloss of tears in her eyes.

"I'm sorry..." I worded, taking a few steps towards her reluctantly. I wanted to wrap my arms around her, to somehow reassure it would be okay... But that would be out of line, and she made it clear that she didn't care about me anyway. So instead, I just stood before her awkwardly, unsure what to say.

I was at lost for words, so instead I forced a playful grin onto my features. I was confused what to do. Normally, I would be tantalized by being this close. I would be staring at her neck, wanting to bite into her flesh and gulp down her blood. But for some reason, that's not what I wanted. I found myself staring at her lips instead, in silence. I had no impulse control; not one ounce of it. But somehow, I held my determination. I knew that I had to keep her in suspense, or else it would be no better and no longer than everything I'd had up until then. There was something about this girl, as much as it was weird to admit to even myself... I saw more than blood in her. And I knew that from the beginning.

"And why would that be?" I tauntingly whispered at last, my eyes leaving her lips and finding their way back to her gaze.

I looked down, out of...shyness? I really had no idea. This girl had rendered me speechless so many times today... It was really unbelievable.

"You don't mean any of that," I grumbled, "Someone like you... You deserve better. You wouldn't care for me if..." If you knew I was only after your blood all this time, I said in my mind.

In reality, I finished with, "If you knew what a wretched person I was. You really deserve anything other than me, Bree. You just have so many good things going for you... I'd hate to have your care wasted on me."

I hated to end the conversation so bitterly. With a lump in my throat, I added, "But... I know what you're talking about... Because I really care about you too, Bree. Yet it feels like I'm dishonoring you by even saying those words, so I really shouldn't... But I do, and that won't change. Even though I don't want you to care about me, know that you're still worthy of all the care in the world... That is, if you don't mind it coming from me..."

Now I was just rambling on, hardly making more sense than a patient in a mental ward.
