"Friendly bunch." Taren whispered sarcasticly, raising an eyebrow as she tucked some of her dark hair carefully behind her ear. She sat down on the cold steps.

An amused look pased over her brother's face. "I didn't exactly notice you jumping up and down saying hello, Taren." Jessie could be funny at times, but his humor was reserved for his twin. He winked playfully.

Cody watched from the shadows, his blue eyes glinting softly; he was hoping to stay unnoticed. Hugging himself to a wall, he crept forward, and then held back a curse (xD) as his shoe knocked a rock down the street.

I leaned back against the wall, the corner of my eye on the twins while I lighted the cigar I had whipped out from my bag. Suddenly, a clatter caught my attention as a rock rolled out from the shadows. "Might as well come out, oh most successful spy." I called out, smirking slightly underneath the gloom of my Newsboy cap.

Cody's expression darkened into blankness, although there was still a slight frown on his face. Walking out, he straightened his posture so he looked taller. "Hello," was all he said, standing there in the middle of the street.

Taren laughed silently, leaning on her brother as she took a deep breath.

He patted her on the back. "Calm down." Jessie said softly, not feeling much like having the attention turning on him and his sister.

"Oh, you calm down!" She replied cheerfully, louder than she should have.

"Nuh-uh." Jessie replied firmly, shaking his head. "Me."

"How would you know?" They looked at eachother. "Actually, we have no idea." She laughed.

The edges of my mouth curled up ever so slightly. I pulled my cap down over my shaggy black hair and leaned back, my tawny eyes gazing straight at them. "New to the factory business? Or not? You might be, as I've seen you guys around for a little...and I've been here for pretty much my whole life." I gave a bitter laugh and shrugged "Not that it matters to me..."

Jessie nodded apreciatively. "Four years, is it, Taren?" He frowned, staring off down the street.

She patted his arm. "Four. Since we were ten..." She sighed. "Too young for this place."

Glad that the subject had changed from his name - Cody wasn't entirely sure if he wanted to share it yet - he watched the other two. So, four years? That was longer than him. He'd only been in the factory business for two or three.

"Sixteen years." I answered quietly, with a cold smile. I got up and pulled my black leather jacket closer around my shoulders and slung my woolly black scarf around my neck. "Break's almost over. Might as well go back in."

Jessie nodded again and stood, offering his sister his hand.

"Thanks." She stood up quickly and hugged her shoulders for a moment, dqueezing as much warmth as possible from her worn-out hoodie before pulling the baseball cap further over her head. "By the way, I'm Taren, and this is-"

"-Jessie." He half-smiled.

Grumbling to himself, Cody stalked back towards the factory. Why why why was he going back - oh yeah, because the others were watching. One thing he'd learned was never to trust anyone else, and so if he was going to sneak off again, then he'd have to do it when nobody was nearby.

I sighed and stepped into the stifling heat of the factory. Pulling off my scarf, I stuffed it into my bag and went to my position at the clothing section. Section A was where I was. Bleargh.
