Noah's Essay on Religious Descrimination
Well, this is a persuasive letter I had to write for Lit. It is on the topic of Religious Discrimination. I hope this is in the right area, and I hope you like it
Religion affects the lifestyle of every person in the world. What people do and believe is right affects how they act. Religion can even affect how you eat. However, people today are badgered, picked at, discriminated, and even physically damaged every day because of what their morals are. There are many reasons why religious discrimination should be delt with more seriously.
There are many different stories about people being harmed because of religious discrimination today. Initially, many people are physically harmed because they believe in something others do not. This fact is a huge problem in other countries as well. America is illustrated as a united country though. Most of the time when this happens, it is just a shove or running into. In the end, a small thing can grow until it maximizes into something that can seriously damage the person.
Religious discrimination is also severe in the use of words or even small actions. Terms are often applied to a certainty group of religious people. Bible thumpers, for example, is a term applied to people of the Christian faith, as well as Jesus Freaks. Often, the term "stingy as a Jew" is used to describe someone who is stringy. This is derived from the stereo type that Jewish people are sting. A joke seen today is the tying of something of a scarf or cloth around one's head and saying "look at me! I'm a Muslim!". All of these are looked over by most, but are actually very offensive to these groups of people.
Frequently, but not as much anymore, people are discriminated against in the workplace. A story states that one man was fired from Red Robin because he had tattoos showing on his wrist. These tattoos were part of his religious customers. Nonetheless, even though he clarified this, they would not hire him back to the job. Another story tells of a man that was denied a high position job because he was Atheist. He was fully qualified and had the right to the job. Some people overcome these situations, but religious discrimination is still big in the world around us.
Rarely do people recognize the intensity of this problem. However, religious discrimination is dwindling. Even though this is happening, do not let this fact deplete the seriousness of the problem. Religion is someone's choice of lifestyle. Choose the right path and stand up for them.
