"I'll have a latte, please. Extra brown sugar and cinnamon," Brooke told the lady at the counter with a nod, offering a smile and then turning around and heading back to her seat where Kris was waiting. She slid into the seat, eyes carefully kept on the counter so she would know when her order was ready. "You should you don't want anything?" she asked her brother, taking her eyes off the counter and shifting her gaze to him, tilting her head slightly to the side.

He nodded, saying, "Yeah, I'm fine, really." He tapped his fingers on the table, fidgeting restlessly. It was Saturday morning, and he and her sister always had breakfast at Starbucks together, but right now, he wasn't feeling in the mood. He wasn't sure why; it could have been because of the extremely dreary weather outside or maybe the fact that the dance was in two days and he didn't have a date yet. Whatever it was, he hated it.

Brooke put her elbows on the table, resting her chin into the palm of her hands. "Hey, Kris, where are Kenndalyn and Travis?" she asked him, tilting her head slightly to the side. "They should have been here by now."

Her brother just shook his head, muttering an "I don't know" along with a shrug. He looked up at her, raising his eyebrows. "I don't know if I even want to see Travis. He probably has a million girls asking him to the dance already."

Brooke stood up as Kenndalyn ran up to hug her and let a wide grin cross her face. "I know, it's been so long!" she exclaimed, hugging Travis as well. She glanced at the table that they had been sitting at and then gestured towards it. "Come sit, we'll talk," she suggested.

Kris returned Kenndayln's hug half-heartedly, and the handshake he had given Travis was as weak as ever. "Not much, just hanging out," he responded with a nod, glancing over at his sister. "And partying," he added, muttering.

Brooke smiled, sliding back into her seat and resting her hands on the table. "So, do you have a date for the dance yet?" she asked Kenndayln, tilting her head curiously to the side.

Kris nodded his head. "I'm fine, Travis," he responded, resisting the frown that was spreading across his face. He turned his attention to Kenn. "Yeah, do you?" he asked, repeating Brooke's question.

Brooke shook her head, frowning. "I haven't been asked yet either," she responded, letting out a small sigh. "I'm not sure if I will be, but I guess you never know what'll happen."

"Me neither," Kris added, shrugging his shoulders. He turned to Travis, lifting an eyebrow. "What about you?" he questioned him, letting a smirk cross his face.

Brooke shook her head, though she couldn't help smiling at what Kenndalyn said. "You know that's not true," she responded with a shrug, letting out a quiet chuckle.

Kris raised an eyebrow, tilting his head to the side just slightly. "Why don't you want to go with any of them?" he asked Travis curiously, though he could hear a sense of bitterness hidden in his words.

With a shrug, she opened her mouth to respond, the grin still playing on her lips. "Well, thanks, Kenndayln," she replied sincerely. "I'm sure you'll find a date too."

Kris frowned, shaking his head. "I would say that I get what you mean, but, having not been asked to the dance even once yet, I'm afraid I can't," he responded, even more bitterly.
