Post by Jinx 9/26/2009, 9:47 am

The bus stopped a little ways from my house.I walked to front, exited and began the short walk back.
"Heeello!"sang a voice.I winced as the owner of the voice walked up next to me.
"It's nice to see you David!"
"You too"I muttered, forcing the words.I looked at her with distaste.Catrin had been stalking me for the past few days. Her vibrant clothes, mismatched socks, and crazy haircut got on my nerves. She made it very hard to believe she was as old as she said she was,Fifteen.
"Why won't you say anything cheerful.Did your cheerful get stolen?"She asked with a laugh"I'll have to check!"
"No!!"I backed away from her quickly-too quickly.I tripped and fell in the grass in my neighbors lawn.
"You-"I almost yelled at her, then remembered my manners. Why did she have to be a girl!
"Oh!Are you okay?"Her eyes, violet and green actually looked concerned. She held out a hand.I ignored it and picked myself and my books up.
She blinked an awful lot.
"Okay,then...I'll be...At my house...Y'know"
"Goodbye Catrin"
"Chaos"She said, sounding a bit annoyed.I left for house, and rolled my eyes when she wasn't looking. What sort of nickname was that?
~*~
I watched as David got off the bus the next day,and walked up to him, chilly and nervous. He will never understand..not until I told him.
"Hey"I said.He looked surprised at the quiet tone in my voice, but I could sense the familiar dislike in him, even though it didn't show in his face.Too polite for that.Stuffy rich dude,I thought, last ditch trying to convince myself that I wasn't..I didn't...
I lie to myself all the time, but I don't believe me.
"Y'know..David"I took a deep breath, struggling for air.Nervousness was choking me"I like you.I've always liked you..Since we moved here..I thought.."There were no words left.I gave him a kiss.I hoped that even though he was so far from it,he understood the wordless language as I did.
"But-"His voice was shaking, and he shoved me away.He left, walking stiffly but fast and I cried a little,on the grass.
"I knew he couldn't..."I wiped a mixture of tears and mascara away from my eyes
A little later I saw him come back out, hand shoved in his pockets.I was surprised-He never did that.Too proper. He sat down next to me,and I felt that particular thrill of his nearness.
~*~
I looked her,still a little scared.But I had realized something.
Her kiss was wonderful, nothing I've ever felt-I've had girlfriends before, but they liked my money. It was never real. The realness of her scared me.How could this crazy girl like anyone? She just seemed too childish.I looked over at her.
"I'm sorry."I was surprised how calm I was.
"Oh."
"I guess..If you..want,we could go out or something?"
"Oh!"She shuddered"Really?"
"Yeah."
~Ze end.

Sweet! Very Happy I'll add ya, Merry!

Aw, it's okay, Ari. xP Idk if I did - I'm considering these notes I took in the car FW, though, because I didn't stop and it was random stuff about my surroundings . . . xD And my blog, too, could be considered FW.

Lol, that girl sounds really annoying, Mia. >.> I think she's crushing on somebody! Very Happy

This is a 'free write' I did a while ago, inspired by Deadliest Catch. Daily Freewriting - Page 2 899677 I figured it'd be cool to post, though. =) It's about a man, named Rodney, who was on a fishing trip out at sea somewheres. nod

Rodney was sleeping; for once. It was so hard for him to fall asleep anymore.
He missed the soft sound of Ame's breathing in his ear. He'd gotten so used
to it in such a short time that he'd barely gotten any sleep on
the trip (for that reason and more, of course).

Suddenly, he heard shouting. "WOODS! WOODS, GET UP! NOW!"

His eyes snapped open. He gasped in surprise when he realized
he was at a forty-five degree angel. Not a good sign. He stumbled
out of bed and into the hallway. "What--?!"

"Get it on, now!" shouted one of the deckhands, shoving something
bright orange into his arms.

He stared down at it, eyes large. "Why?"

"We're taking on water!" he shouted above a roaring sound.

Rodney finally noticed it. The sound of rushing water. He
glanced around, and his eyes went wider still when he saw
it approaching. He struggled into the suit and clambered
up after his deck mate. "Why didn't anyone wake me earlier?"

"It just started happenin' two minuets ago, boy!" he said
over his shoulder.

Once they reached the deck, Rod slipped and fell. The boat was,
though sinking, still pitching horribly. Waves splashed above
the sides and seemed to make their way right at him.
Thanks to the suit, he was kept nice and warm and dry.

The man--Cedric Joshua Smith--grabbed his forearm and hauled him
to his feet. "Stand up, boy!" he shouted, his deep voice the only
sane thing Rod could comprehend.

Grabbing Cedric's shoulder, he pulled himself to his feet.
"Sorry, Ced!" he yelled.

He didn't let go of Rodney. He dragged him towards the rails, towards
where many feet below on the water a raft was being thrown about wildly.
Three other men--only three of the sixteen crew on the boat--had
managed to make to and stay in the raft. Cedric took Rodney by his
shoulders, swung him once, and tossed him.

Rodney cried out and wheeled his arms and legs wildly, confused
for a few moments. When he hit the raft, though, he understood.

Cedric landed heavily next to him and began to try to pull up the canopy.
If they canopy was up, the men would be safe...for now.
Before he could do so, the little boat was flung off into the dark.

Rodney watched, holding his breath, as the ship disapppeared completely
below the surface with a sickening sort of groan--as if it were alive,
as if it was trying to say its lasts words. With a grimace, he glanced back
to Cedric.

He smiled at him. He was nearly done with the canopy, but there
was still a very large gap. "We're gonna be fine," he promised.
"We're gonna go home--you to your wife, us to our families.
We'll be fine." Over the trip, he'd taken Rod under his wing. Rodney
was the youngest, and he had only been married for a few months, while
the rest of them were all at least ten years older, most of their
children grown. If anyone was to survive and go home, it was Rodney.
He had too much to lose (and half of that much he didn't even know
about yet), therefore he had to go home.

Rodney gave him a weak attempt at a smile. "I hope so, Sir." he shouted
over the whipping wind.

That's when the first wave struck. It sent all the men out of the raft,
flying through the air, and crashing into the wild sea.
Rodney surfaced, and almost screamed when he found he was face first with
something hard and cold and--

Cedric pulled him up over the side of the raft. Two of the other
men climbed back in as well, but the third...was gone.

This happened over and over again throughout the night. By the time
dawn's first gentle rays peeked above the horizon, only Rodney
and Cedric lay at the bottom of the raft.

The final large wave struck. If only Rodney had seen it coming--if only he'd
held on tighter--if only he hadn't been so tired, so afraid--if only
Cedric had grabbed him before he go be sent flying once more.
When Rodney was able to look around again, he was utterly alone. His
eyes went wide. "NO!" he screamed, looking around desperately. "CEDRIC!
NO! COME BACK! WHERE ARE YOU? WHERE AM I? HELP! HELP ME SOMEONE!"
This screaming continued for hours; until the sun sat high in the sky;
until his throat was so sore that he could barely breathe.

He didn't want to give up. With is entire being, he didn't
want to give up. But your being and your body are two different things.
His body was completely and utterly gone. He was too tired to hold his
eyes open. His lips were so dry and cracked that they seemed like pieces
of coral that had been left behind on the beach. His arms and legs felt
like cinder blocks on strings. But his mind--his soul--was alive and well
and still fighting.

Though he didn't want to give up, he did. He let himself float on his
back. His eyes shut. His breathing slowed. And he floated on, his
soul still screaming, but his body deathly still...

~!~

Cedric shivered violently again. It was a few hours after Rodney had
been flung from the life raft, and the Cedric was now just waiting for
death. Three times he'd heard helicopters circle over head. Right
above him, three times. But nothing. They didn't see him at all.

Now, a fourth time, he heard it. He decided this time he would
show himself. He shifted and tore down the canopy, stood, and began
to scream.

The pilots looked around at the water; the noisy blades of the chopper
churned the water and made it hard for them to see. But this time,
the did see Cedric. One of the rescuers was lowered down to him
in a basket. "I can't believe we found one," breathed the pilot to his
co-pilot.

"Neither can I. It's been nearly twelve hours since the last mayday
call came in..."

When the rescue man in his basket came close enough, Cedric
grabbed him by his shoulders and shook him. "Did you find the boy?!"
he shouted. "Did you find Rodney?"

"No, you're our first," he yelled over the rush of the water and
howling wind. He dragged Cedric into the basket and shot the men
in the helicopter a thumbs up.

"What?!" Cedric cried. He sank into the corner of the basket, eyes
becoming round. He shook. "No! No!"

"Calm down, Sir, it's alright now," calm a soft voice as several people
pulled him into the helicopter.

"NO! You've got to find the boy. You've got to find him!"

"What boy, Sir?" The soft voice came from a woman. A TV reporter.
She took his dark, gnarled hand in hers and stared into his brown eyes.

"Rodney. Rodney Woods. You've got to find him. He's only twenty
five--he just turned it, just a month ago turned it. Got married less
than a year ago. His first child is going to be born soon." Cedric was
friends with one of Ame's co-workers and he had told him this, but Ced
had not told Rodney, knowing Ame wanted to tell him herself. "He
needs to live."

The news reporter lady's eyes went round. "We'll make sure they do," she
whispered, squeezing his hand. "I'll make sure they find him."

~!~

Rodney moaned softly; what was that pressure on his chest. His eyes
fluttered open and he went ridged at when he saw what was perched on
his chest. A raven. It crowed once, loudly, right in his direction.
He screamed and flailed around wildly, afraid it might hurt him or
something.

It gave another screech and took flight immediately, leaving the man
screaming and flailing in the middle of no where.

When Rodney was exhausted from his fit, he resolved with floating on his
back again. He'd used all his energy having that fit, and now had only
enough to think.

How was Ame? Only the night before he'd talked to her. Told her he loved
her...A slight smile tried to tug at his lips, but when it did, because
they were so dry, they cracked and blood trickled down his chin. At
least she knew he loved her...

But she would miss him, he knew that. And that wasn't fair. He wouldn't
be seeing her for a long time. At least, he hoped she wouldn't do
something as stupid as take her own life for him...But, then again, he
had nearly done the same for her. It was likely she would try. Oh, what
he wouldn't give to be with her right now!

He'd cradle her in his arms and kiss her, tell her he loved her more than
anything else in the world. Tell her he was alright, he was perfectly
alright, and that he was sorry that he'd been gone so long.

But even though he could envision this so perfectly that he actually felt
her in his arms, he knew it wouldn't happen ever again. He was going to
die. That was what he knew, what he was sure of. He was going to die.
He had do die! There was no one to save him. No one knew he was there.
No one at all knew where he was. He was utterly alone...Even the fish
below him and the birds above didn't notice him. But if they did,
he didn't suppose they'd care, anyway. He was just a lonely fisherman,
a rookie. He wouldn't taste good, he decided.

The sun beat down on him. Hours later, the moon was up and it gave him
great relief. When he licked his lips he gasped in pain. His entire face
felt stiff; he was horribly sunburned.

How long had he been floating? A day? A month? A year? He wasn't sure.
His stomach growled fiercely and his throat was screaming for water.

He was so weak...His heavy eyelids drifted shut again and he just kept
floating over the waves. The sea was eerily calm; as if it sensed his
presence and wanted to make the last few hours of his life easier on him.

~!~

Hard. Something hard. Where was it? He was laying on it. Why was he laying
on something hard? He wanted to know, but he couldn't move. He was too weak--so weak that his breathing was little shallow gasps that came every few
seconds. He managed to get his fingers to flex.

Sand. He was on sand--sand...he wasn't dead?

New thoughts pushed the thoughts of sand out of his mind.

How was he not dead? He'd been so long without food, without water...Or had
he? Had it only been a day or so?

He forced his eyes open. Immediately they snapped back shut. It was bright
out...bright meant day. It was day again. He could remember three days.
Three days since food and water and real rest and comfort. Three days
since the ship sank. Three days sine he last saw Cedric....

His thoughts directed back to the sand. What did it mean? Did it mean
he was safe? Safe? What did being safe mean? It certainly didn't
mean he was going to live. No, there was always the possibility
he'd die. But sand...

Where was sand normally located? He wracked his tired and scrambled
mind for a good five minuets before it hit him. Land. Sand was on
beaches. Near the ocean. But on land. Land! He was on land!

He made it!

Just then he heard something that sounded rusty and wet. What
was that sound? He listened again and realized it was coming
from him. He was laughing.

The laughter stopped when he heard something. Voices. He tried
to make his eyes open again, and this time they did. The gentle
wind had shifted the leaves and they shaded his tired eyes. He
glanced around. To his right was a beach and slightly above that
was a forest. To his left was...PEOPLE.

Oh, what a sweet, sweet sight. People. Men. Women. A few children.
Even a dog. People! They were swarming about the dock...Why? Oh,
he knew why. Boats. They were going to get on the boats. Foolish
people! They didn't know what could happen to him. They'd never
understand, never know, never, never know....

"Help."

It was him speaking again. He had to force the sound from his
throat; his throat felt like it had been rubbed down with
sandpaper. His voice--because his throat was like this--
sounded absolutely horrible. He winced when he realized
how quiet it was, too. Barely a whisper.

"HELP." He tried again.

This time it was a normal volume, but it felt like he was
screaming. His throat throbbed and he coughed once. Little
droplets of blood appeared and he winced again.

"HELP!"

Finally, he managed a real scream. It took every ounce
of energy his weak body contained, but he did it.
People looked up. Children clung to their mother's legs
and pointed. Men glanced at each other and blinked in surprise.
A few of the men walked over. "Hello?" they shouted.

Rodney didn't have enough strength to reply. So he was still.
"Was that an animal, or did it come from that orange thing, ya
think?" asked one of the men to his comrade.

"I dunno. It sounded like fingers on a chalkboard." he replied
with a shrug. He came to a sudden halt when he was a few feet
away from the orange thing. His jaw dropped.

Before him lay a man in a bright orange suit. The suit was clearly
a certain type that kept him dry. The man himself looked horrible.
His face was tanned yet bright right and the skin was peeling,
the skin on his hands, too, was bright red and peeling. But his
hands also seemed...dead. They were limp and on the sand palm
up. Despite the red there was a bit of blue. The water was cold,
so his hands were just about frozen. His eyes--now shut--seemed
sunken in their sockets. "Do ya think he's alive?"

He glanced behind him. He shrugged. "Not sure..." he murmured,
crouching down. "Hello?" He gently prodded Rodney with a stick.

His eyes fluttered open again, and the men jumped. "Help me."
It was a wheeze, a breath, a sound. The most he could make.
With that, he passed out.

"Hey!" The man stood and started shouting. "We found a guy!
He's alive! We found a guy!" They picked him up and began
to drag him back to the dock.

~!~

Rodney woke again and found himself staring at a white ceiling.
There was a thud and he was jostled slightly. Someone had taken
him out of the orange suit and was touching his chest. He winced.

"Rodney?"

He blinked once and looked to the speaker. A nurse, clearly.
"You're alright, Rodney." she said with a smile. "You're alright.
You're in an ambulance, on the way to the hospital. We've called
your wife and your friend Harry--Mr. Smith here gave us the
numbers and told us who you were. Your wife will be meeting us
there...." The rest of her words became background noise to
him.

Rodney glanced to his left, not believing this. And there
sat Cedric. He grinned down at him, his brown eyes sparkling.

"Hey, Boy," he chuckled, reaching forward and gently ruffling his
hair. "You're alive, son. You're gonna go home soon."

Rodney felt a tiny smile rise to his lips. His eyes drifted shut,
and he fell unconscious once more, but this time, he wasn't
afraid. His entire body relaxed and he was at ease. Finally,
finally, he was safe.

I'll join! I need something to help me get motivated, so maybe forcing myself to write everyday will help.

Daily Freewriting - Page 2 Empty Re: Daily Freewriting

Post by Nightowl 9/27/2009, 2:44 pm

I drifted in and out of consciousness for a long, long time. It could have been weeks that I lay there helplessly, or only mere days. When I was awake, I would see vague forms wandering in and out of my vision, but I could never figure out what they were or why they were there.

Time passed with agonizing slowness. Maybe it was the pain that throbbed constantly in my side, or maybe it was the fact that I could only manage to open my eyes for a few seconds at a stretch.

Gradually, the pain began to subside. Every time that I woke, it would be less and less, and I would stay awake for longer. In these short periods, I would lie with my eyes closed and try to remember what had happened.

I knew that there had been bad people, and a friend. And they had taken him away, but I couldn’t remember for the life of me who that friend had been. It tortured me to not know who had been taken, and my feverish mind would only be able to think one singular thought at times such as these. I had to find him, and soon.

The forms I had seen earlier, at the point where I could barely think, I now realized were people. There were two different ones: a tall man and a short boy. Whenever I woke, the smaller one would be sitting patiently at my bedside, looking at me worriedly. I could only watch with an indifferent glaze in my eyes because indeed, I had no energy to do anything more.

I slowly regained my strength however, and soon I could wriggle around on the soft bed. I had barely been able to lift a finger before.

I did not speak to the people, who took care of me, but I smiled at the boy once and it seemed to excite him a great deal. He left me immediately and returned moments later, dragging the man behind. I smiled weakly again, for this amused me for some unknown reason.

The failure of my memory was sometimes the only thing I could think of though, and I would try for hours on end to remember his name. It alluded me: always on the edge of my mind, but not clear enough to be named.

Aside of this, I could now sit up, but still no exchange of words was passed between me and the boy or the man. We lived in a sort of silent harmony.

The place in which I was situated had a view that commanded my attention for quite some time after I was well enough to look around without shutting my eyes.

The roof, walls, and floor were made of ice, but it felt perfectly natural. Although I could not remember anything beyond the fact that I needed to find my friend, I knew that my country was one of ice and snow. A strange bluish light filtered through the ice at all times, casting a serene yet eerie glow over everything. The area appeared to have two sort of levels – there were beds and a small fire on the top level, and a few feet below, all manner of things could be seen from where I sat. There were hunting knives, and a sled, leather harnesses and other tools and implements: too many to name.

[To be finished when I freewrite again. =)]
