-----"I have heat vision in my dragon form," Kayla offered. "I could use that to search for her underwater."

-----Shadow just grinned, nodding without saying anything. She liked birds like these the best, even better than typical animals like dogs or cats. Wings were just the most amazing thing in the world to have.

[C] I slowly pulled back the latch, carefully opening the door. The hawk started screeching and flapping her wings, trying to get out. I deftly pinned her wings to her sides, making sure to be gentle with the bird's fragile bones.

-----There was a look of rapture on Shadow's face as she watched. Man, that's just so cool . . . She wished she could be like Cassie, so good with animals in, like, a vet way. She used to want to be a vet, but realized later she probably didn't have what it took.

[C] I realized I couldn't feed her the meds and hold her down at the same time. "Shadow, can you give her one of the pills in that bottle next to the cage? There should be an extra pair of gloves on the hook over there."

-----Her eyes widened ecstatically, and Shadow rapidly nodded. "Sure!" She darted over to the hook and pulled the gloves on, then was back by the cage in a flash. "How do I do this exactly?" She grinned, timidly picking up the bottle of pills as if they were going to bite her. This is why I'd suck as a vet. I never know what I'm doing.

-----Kayla relaxed visibly and gave the girl a grin. "I'm ready if you guys are." To emphasize that point, she started turning back into a dragon, leaping off of the cliff when she started getting too big. Luckily it was just two seconds of falling before she was fully morphed, so she rose back up to their level and grinned.

-----Shadow nodded and took a pill out. Very gently, she pried the hawk's beak open and did as Cassie had told her, putting the pill inside.

((Yeah.

Though you can also, like, stick the pill into a clump of food and give it to them, or if it's flavored, just feed it to them alone. xD My dog, luckily, likes her heartworm pills enough to enjoy them when she takes them.))

-----"Okay. I think it swallowed it." Shadow hesitantly removed her fingers from the bird's throat.

[C] "Thanks," I said, putting the hawk back in her cage. I carefully released her wings and then quickly closed the cage door before she could get out. I latched it carefully.

-----Shadow meandered over to the barn's door, standing there as if she were a guard, though she was really just eager for the meeting to start. She started humming the tune of one of her favorite songs as she waited, rocking back and forth on her heels.

[C] I went to the other side of the barn to feed the horses, scooping out their grain and putting a bucket of the stuff into each stall. I grabbed the hose and began refilling the troughs with fresh water.

[C] I looked up as Tobias fluttered in and landed on the rafters. At the same time, voices outside told me that at least two of the others had arrived as well. I looked over to see Rachel and Annie enter the barn.

"Come on." I ran off the cliff and jumped, my fifteen foot wingspan catching the air easily as the flock did the same.

[color:b803="e7eff5"]-----Shadow let out a satisfied sigh, and made her way over to a haybale. There she sat, looking much happier than she had a few moments ago. "Hey Tobias," she greeted the hawk with a grin, waving at him. "Hi Rachel, Annie."

[color:b803="e7eff5"]-----Kayla flew beside the flock, feeling distinctly that while she was a lot more powerful, they had way more grace than she did, thanks to their size. She'd never thought of herself as particularly ungraceful before, but next to them . . . wow. They made her look like a rhino.
[color:b803="e7eff5"]-----When they got to the water, the dragoness wasted no time in diving into the darkened liquid and calling upon her heat vision, searching the depths intently. She could see schools of fish and other small creatures out a bit farther, each standing out in a pale orange . . . but not the creature that had taken the girl, not yet. I can't find them, she told the others with concern, going out a bit deeper. They must be far out there by now . . .

"Angel?" I asked. She nodded, tears in her eyes- Angel practically doted on Amanda (and constantly kept telling us to get married, which was annoying). She dived, searching with the dragon.

-----Kayla mustered her courage and dove a little deeper. Water was . . . okay. But when dark, deep, and very widespread like this . . . it took a lot of concentration not to get scared of it. Just the feeling of being closed in was horrible.
-----Still the same flashes of color throughout the murk . . . not even a far-off smudge to show the monster. Maybe . . . it's . . . in a cave?

-----Shadow grinned when she saw Marco and Annie together, then casually glanced down at the ground so she wouldn't end up staring. Man, that's just so sweet.

[M] After a moment of slightly awkward silence, I spoke up. "So, where's Ax-man and our fearless leader?"
"I think Jake took Ax to the mall to get some stuff from Radio Shack," Cassie replied. "He's working on some kind of computer program that'll do something we apparently need." She shrugged.
