Suddenly, there was a small little knock on the door. It bounced off the walls and echoed a few times, fading into an odd sort of silence.

"Jasper? Would you be a dear and see who's at the door?" Called Esme from one of the other rooms.

"Sure, Esme." Amanda and I walked towards the door, my arm around her shoulders. Her hands were by her sides, but she was leaning on my shoulder as we walked.
Amanda opened the door quietly, and a rush of air flew in. She shivered slightly, and I pulled her ever so closer. "Hello?"

But there seemed to be no one at the door. Outside, everything was placid and calm, nothing out of place.

In the trees [and if Jasper were to look, he could probably see this] a little pale form, with a pair of large, emerald green eyes. The figure was tiny, no taller than maybe two feet, and she was shivering.

"There's someone in the forest..." I muttered. "Then let's go." Amanda shrugged. "Amanda, I don't want you to freeze." She rolled her eyes. "Jasper, don't pull that one on me. I'm going, whether you like it or not." Her eyes told me she wasn't lying. "Fine. Let's go."

[Gosh. my throat is killing me.]

The little one crawled backwards, and, in fear, hid in a hallowed out log. She curled up her legs, pulling them up to her chest, and she watched the two. Still shivering.
What gave her away was her high pitched sneeze.

"Bless you." I whispered automatically. "T-t-that wasn't me." Amanda shivered. "Then who was it... oh. Hello." I squatted by a log to see a young girl, about Renesmee's age. My throat burned slightly, and Amanda's hand rested at my neck. "C-calm. She's only h-half." I pulled Amanda closer, gently letting her hair fall over my shoulder.

The little one shivered automatically, her lips blue, and her skin as pale as the ghosts. She rubbed her eyes with one of her little hands, and yawned sleepily. She remained completely aware of the two new ones, "Momma said that I wasn't allowed to talk to strangers." She whispered, eyes large.

"W-w-we're good s-strangers." Amanda smiled warmly, her pale cheeks lighting up slightly. "We're going to get you warm. We know someone like you." Her face was so sweet I would have cried if I could. "Come on sweetie."

Hailey blinked, and nodded, eventually crawling out and gazing with curious eyes upon the two. "Good strangers?" She repeated in a whisper, hesitantly standing up, tottering around, and then regaining her balance. "I'd like to meet someone like me." She responded innocently.

Amanda scooped the tiny child into her arms. "Come on, sweetie." She stroked the girl's black hair. "Let's go." Amanda waited for me, and I followed, not breathing.
Amanda seemed to notice my discomfort. "Oh, Jasper, what is it?" She asked, her eyes filled with concern. "I'm fine." I lied. "No, you're not, baby. Your eyes are black. Go hunt and meet me later. Alice can take pictures tomorrow." She kissed my lips instantly, somehow supporting the child as well, and smiled. "Fine. See you in an hour." One finger brushed her lips, and she carried the child on, eventually emerging at the house. It was then that I ran the other way.

"What's your name?" Hailey asked while wrapping her arms around Amanda, her touch as light as a feather. "My name is Hailey." She continued, saying this in an innocent, matter-of-factly kind of way.
She looked around at the house, a curious look upon her face. "Where are we?" She asked.

"I'm Amanda." I smiled and opened the door. "Renesmee?" I called quietly, situating Hailey on my lap. "Come here for a second, sweetheart." Renesmee toddled downstairs, Edward following. "Renesmee, sweetheart, I found you a playmate."

Hailey watched the other two shyly, almost hesitating to approach them. She tilted her head at Renesmee, and managed to crack a lovely smile, "Hi!" She greeted her with a wave. For a moment, she had gotten rid of her shyness.

"Hi!" Renesmee sat on my other knee and touched my cheek, showing a picture of her and Hailey playing together. "I'll try, sweetie." My hand bounced one of her curls. "Renesmee, this is Hailey. Hailey, this is Renesmee. You're both half-vampire."

Hailey giggled, "Your hair is pretty." She complimented politely, folding her hands on her lap. Her own raven black hair was down, her sleek bangs reaching just below her eyebrows.

Esme walked in, a look of surprise coming over her lovely face.
"Hello. And where did this little one come from?" She asked curiously, her head tilting. She smiled kindly to Renesmee and Hailey, not wanting the new one to be afraid of her.

"Jasper found her in the woods." I laughed, stroking Hailey's hair. Renesmee leaned her head against my chest and fell asleep. "Are you tired too?" I asked Hailey as Edward picked Renesmee up.

Hailey's eyes were already fluttering with sleepiness as well, but she mustered up the will to nod once. And, very quickly, she was out like a light.

"She looks sleepy and cold." Added Esme with a slight, but soft, laugh as she wrapped a blanket around the little one.

I situated her slightly more comfortably, and Jasper walked in. His eyes were liquid gold again, and I smiled. "She's asleep." I whispered, and he wrapped his arm around my shoulders. "Your turn." He lifted Hailey into his arms, and I shifted uncmfortably. "You don't trust me?" His voice was filled with sadness. "I... I just don't want to risk it, Jasper." To avoid the upcoming argument, I took Hailey back and lied down on the couch. Closing my eyes, I wrapped my hand around hers.

-----Alice no longer had the capacity to treat Amanda cruelly. She let out a sigh, her eyes flickering away. "Well, I think you're wrong," she said quietly. When she looked back up at Amanda, nothing had changed in her expression. "In fact, I know you're wrong. Jasper wouldn't do something like that. Em, maybe, if he could . . . but not Jasper."

-----Shaking her head, Stephanie laughed. "See, that's the problem with all you Cullens and your girlfriends!! You don't have enough sense of your self-worth. I think you and Amanda are perfect for each other - and not because you both stink, but because you're both great. But don't tell Alice I said that."

Mort suddenly appeared behind Maryann, a cautious look on his face that told Amanda, Jasper, and Carlisle to pretend that they didn't notice him.

Alright, then. Chloe replied with a nod. For a few moments, she said nothing. Finally, she asked impatiently, We can change into human forms again, right? I'm about to sneeze up a storm. She sneezed after she said this.

-----Jacob was quick to say, Yeah, that's fine. It'd be kinda a relief to at least collect his bearings without having her watching. Who knew what else would slip out?
-----It was, apparently, quite impossible to keep at least something related to the topic out of his head.

Catching part of Jacob's thoughts, some of the wolves burst out into a few barks.
Hey Jake! What're you trying to hide from us? One of them asked curiously, poking Jacob slightly with the tip of their nose.

Chloe, however, had already disappeared behind some of the trees.

After a few hours of sleeping, Hailey's large eyes opened at last. Silently slithering out from Amanda's arms, she toddled over to Jasper, tugging on the hem of his pants.

"I could see Emmett doing that." I sighed, my eyes heavy. "Thanks Alice. Really." I smiled tentivaly (SP?) and turned into the bedroom.
I laughed. "Whatever you say, Stephanie. She still deserves someone better." I nodded curtly, ending the conversation, and went to make sure Amanda was okay.

"Hi Hailey." I smiled, trying to keep the pain off my face. I learned to handle Amanda because I loved her beyond her imagination, even though her blood was the sweetest thing on the planet. I wandered over to Amanda, who's eyes were slightly opened, and shook her shoulder. "She's awake, Amanda." Amanda stood up and lifted Hailey into her arms. "You hungry?" She asked, her voice adorably sweet.

Hailey blinked her wide eyes at Amanda, rubbing her eyes and nodding. "Mhm!" She replied, still nodding. She was lightly swinging her legs, not enough to kick Amanda, though-- even if she would've, it wouldn't have hurt her.

Esme appeared, a bowl of fruit-loops in her hand. "Try giving her this; maybe she'll like it more than Renesmee did." She laughed, and disappeared again.

Amanda smiled sweetly and pulled Hailey closer. "Come on sweetie. Here comes the train!" The spoon was approaching Hailey's mouth.
Hailey already felt like my own little child, my own little Renesmee. She was absolutly adorable, and already loving both me and Jasper. Speaking of Jasper, his hand was suddenly on my shoulder. "Amanda? I need to talk to you." His voice was strained again. "In a second Jasper." I bounced Hailey slightly. "Let her finish."

Hailey cringed at the taste of human food. Of course it satisfied her hunger, but trust me, she didn't enjoy it all that much. Her nose scrunched up, and she shook her head slightly as she swallowed the last of the nasty stuff. "Ewe, no more!" she squeaked. But one couldn't help but laugh at her disgusted expression.
