"Okay, okay." I kissed Hailey's forehead and handed her off to Esme. "Come on, Jasper." His hands clasped on my shoulders gently, steading me "Jazz, I'm fine." I laughed, shrugging out of his grip. "Okay, okay." Now he was strained and glum. I hurried upstairs; I couldn't stand it when he was depressed.

Hailey became occupied with playing with Esme's hair, lightly resting her head against her chest and yawning widely, a pair of little fangs becoming visible as she did so. "I ran away because daddy was very mean." She whispered with closed eyes. Though she looked to be asleep, she was really wide awake.

"What is is, Jasper?" Amanda's hands wrapped around my neck gently, clasping behind me. "It's... Hailey. I think you're getting to... attatched to a girl we found in the woods." Amanda blinked faster, obviously trying to fight back tears. "Please don't cry. I can't stand seeing that." I pushed her face into my chest so I wouldn't have to face the pain of her tears. "Hailey's not our child, Amanda. She has parents. She needs to find them." I rubbed her back gently, but she had gotten loose of my grip. "Jasper, she is not just a girl in the woods! I may have known her for less than a day, but that doesn't mean I can't love her like a child!" Her eyes streaming with tears, she ran downstairs. "What have I done?"
"I ran away because Daddy was very mean." I thought I had imagined Hailey's voice, but that was it. Amanda was right.
My face fell into my hands as I thought of the pain I had just caused Amanda. "J-Jasper?" Amanda's voice was thick with tears as she walked into the room."Yes, sweetheart?" She was still crying. "Please don't cry." I whispered, pulling Amanda closer. Her head rested on my chest. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have overreacted." She lied her hand on my cheek. "Of course, sweetheart. Besides, you were right." Amanda looked very confused. "Hailey ran away because her dad was mean." MY voice lowered to a whisper. Amanda nodded slightly. "Okay." She coughed lightly, and I immediatly pulled her close. "We keep her." My voice was soft and comforting, and Amanda smiled. "I love you, Amanda, More than you could ever know."

After a few hours of sleeping, Hailey's large eyes opened at last. Silently slithering out from Amanda's arms, she toddled over to Jasper, tugging on the hem of his pants.

-----If Jacob was a human right now, he would have been blushing. A lot. Nothing! he answered automatically, avoiding their eyes, but now it was really quite obvious. It was just too easy to think about how much he liked Chloe. All the anxiety, desire, and happiness he got being around her spilled completely through the barrier. He sheepishly scratched his claws against the ground, knowing that now he'd never hear the end of it.

The vampire stood there a long time, a confusion of feelings inside of her. She was still heart-broken . . . but now she was just a little awestruck. She'd actually let Amanda be happy like that. Why? The girl had done nothing but bring her sorrow, but she turns around and gives her joy?

-----Stephanie smirked to herself as she watched Jasper go. Oh, he'll get it some day. She walked slowly to the window, peeking out through the shades at the city all around them. Not much to see . . . the sight probably would've been better if they were in Japan, and they wouldn't have had the Volturi to worry about then, either. She grinned when she realized how noisy it'd probably be, though. "It's so quiet here," she murmured.

"Hey, sweetie." I lied my hand on Amanda's forehead. "You still have a fever. Do you feel all right?" Amanda's hand took mine slowly. "K-kinda." She coughed. "Are you all right?" I chuckled. "Amanda, I'm with you. How could I not be all right?" She sighed. "A lot of reasons." Her hand cradled my chin. "Sleep, Amanda. Sleep. I'll still be here in the morning." And her eyes drifted closed.

(And now the morning, 'cause I don't feel like RPing my sleep. xD)

"Uuuuhhh..." Amanda moaned from the bed. "What is it, sweetheart?" My hand immediatly clasped on her forehead. "My throat." She whispered, and I realized that was teh loudest she could get. "Okay, sweetie. Come on." I lifted her effortlessly into my arms, and she lied her ehad on my chest. "I still want you to rest, Amanda. Come on." And I walked towards [where Stephanie is].

The wolves barked and howled.

Chloe, however, remained behind the trees in wolf form. She had heard Jacob's thoughts loud and clear. Quickly, she morphed back into her human form, dressed, and appeared once more. She dragged her fingers through her short hair as she placed her toboggan hat back onto her head. "What I miss?" She asked, acting as if she didn't hear a single thing.

Hailey yawned widely, slipping out of Esme's arms and looking around at the house. She was a naturally curious girl, appearing here and there randomly. She asked what this was, who that was-- basically, she asked about everything. She pointed up at Esme, "Who're you?" She asked, her eyes wide as she tilted her head.

"Come on." Jasper gently nudged me forward, and I giggled. "Okay, Jasper." I nearly ran down the stairs as he chased me. "Jasper, what the heck are you doing?" Emmett yelled from downstairs. I laughed. "Don't worry about a thing, Emmett." Carlisle laughed. "They're just going crazy... as usual." I reached Hailey, out of breath. Jasper chuckled and wrapped his arm around my shoulders. "Weak little human." I stepped on his foot playfully. "Cheating v-vampire."

Hailey looked up at the two, clearly pleased that they were happy again. Soon, she started to giggle, and then that giggle turned into little laughing fit. A few bulbs popped, and then the entire house went dark. She gasped, holding her hand to her mouth. She looked like a little girl who had done something very naughty. "Uh oh!"

I immediatly reached for Amanda's hand, since I could still see. Soft hands appeared on my shoulder. "I'm right here." Her chin rested on my shoulder gently. "Calm down Jazz." Emmett muttered. "Seriously, Jazz, she's okay." Edward. "You don't need to wrap her in bubble wrap, Jasper." Rosalie. "Is there something wrong with caring?" I snarled and bolted upstairs.
"Crud." I muttered. "Jasper!" I traveled upstairs safely, somehow not tripping in the darkness. "Jazz? It's me." I opened the door to his study. "Oh, Jasper."

As soon as Hailey calmed down, the lights eventually flickered on, illuminating the house once more. Still, the little one looked pretty embarrassed and shy, now that she had figured out she caused the power outage. Currently she was hiding behind Esme's legs, hands still held to her mouth.

"Jasper?" I lied one small hand on his neck. "Go away." He barked, then realized who it was. "I'm sorry... it's just.."
"I know." I whispered. "It's fine. I understand." He pulled me into his arms. "It's just... I care about you. I don't want you hurt. They know that, but... Emmett won't let it go." I stroked his cheek. "Don't worry about it, Jasper. It's just the way you are, sweetheart. It was like this with Alice too." I thought I saw him crying. "Oh, Jasper." I repeated, and snuggled closer into his arms.

(Emmett needs to run in on us. xD Wanna do that? XD)

But he just wagged his tail, offering her a smile and a shrug. He was just feeling relief that she didn't seem to have heard anything. Guys, please don't say anything to her? he asked, though he knew that probably wouldn't stop them.

The wolves nodded, and then ran off in some random direction, leaving the two alone.

Chloe grinned at him crookedly in return, tackling the horse-sized wolf in a playful manner. "What's the matter? You look like I'm gonna attack you." She tilted her head at him curiously. She was currently hanging off of his side lazily, one hand holding onto his ear.

Emmett walked into the room uninvited, leaning against the doorframe. "Sorry to interrupt on you two lovebirds; but your kid is the one who just caused the power outage, if you guys managed to notice." He informed them, raising his eyebrows. "Any explanation on that?"

-----Stephanie was still standing by the window, staring silently out and observing the buildings. It was bright now; the soft kind of light of the morning, and the peacefulness of Italy made it that much nicer.
-----When Amanda woke up, she turned and watched them. By the time Jasper started walking over, her face had become slightly worried. "Is Amanda all right?" she asked quietly.

-----Jacob still looked nervous. He gave her another shrug, but didn't smile this time. Seating himself, he glanced around. Great. Of course they'd leave, he muttered. That was all he needed, the opportunity to tell Chloe himself . . . even though he'd been trying to get the courage to do it all day, he still didn't want to. And was still entirely clueless that she already knew.

Chloe let herself slide down beside him, sitting with her legs crossed Indian style. All she really wanted at this point, was for him to be happy. "If you're wondering what I managed to hear..." She began trailing off into an awkward silence. She folded her hands on her lap, making quiet clicking noises with her tongue.

-----Now Jacob really looked freaked out. If she could hear his thoughts, Chloe would be getting a lot of bad words right now. Folding his ears back even more than they'd been before, Jacob stared at Chloe with wide eyes. Please don't tell me she heard. Nononononono.
-----It was a lot worse to think about now that it'd actually happened. Because there was no way she liked him as anything more than a friend. So this would kill their friendship. He'd have to avoid her, if she didn't do it herself, and there'd be no hearing the end of this from the others . . .

"I don't think so." Amanda moaned from my arms. "I'm sorry, baby." I lied my cool hand on her forehead, hoping it would help the raging fever. She coughed slightly and whispered my name. "Jasper... Stephanie... don't leave..." And her eyes closed.

(Mad Hatter: )

"Oh!"Crud, crud, crud. Why was Emmett here? Now? I realized what it looke dlike to him and slid out of Jasper's grip. "Uh... I'll go talk to her about that?" I grabbed Jasper's hand and walked out the door, still blushing. I laughed as Jasper shot a glare at Emmett.
"Hey sweetie." I lifted Hailey into my arms gently. "Hailey... did you make the lights go out?"

Chloe tilted her head, pulling her legs up to her chest. She rested her chin on her knees, and she told him quietly, "You could have just told me, you know..." She suggested. "You don't have to avoid me. I actually thought you'd be the one hearing my thoughts, and I would have had to been the one avoiding you."

Hailey blinked her large eyes at the two, still holding her hand to her mouth like she had been before. "It was an accident!" She squeaked immediately, not wanting the two to get back at her and leave her alone again in the forest.

"That seems to be her power." Added Carlisle.

"No, no sweetie. I'm not mad." I coaxed. "It's okay." I stroked her hair, hoping to calm the little one. Jasper began to let his fingers fall through my hair, and I heard Emmett laugh. I ognored it and continued to hold Hailey against my chest. My little baby.

Hailey lifted her head, sniffling quietly. She stuck her tongue out at Emmett, a still playful look in her eyes. "You not mad?" She asked Jasper, gently poking his shoulder.

Hailey stretched in Carlisle's arms, giggling quietly when the coldness of the measuring tape poked her nose. The lights flickered momentarily, but quickly came back.

"Good girl." Said Carlisle, gently setting her back down on the floor. "Two feet and seven inches; a short one, I'd say. Her appearance seems to be that of a two year old." He explained, patting the little one's head. "Renesmee!" he called, "it's your turn."
