Her worry was infectious; I began looking around slightly nervously as well.

Finally Dairka stood, taking a few paces away from the carcass. "Actually . . . I don't feel that hungry any more," she mumbled.

I looked up. "Something wrong?"

She shook her head. "Not really. I'm just kinda . . . ya know. Freaking out."

"I doubt he'll risk coming this far into the territory," I said, half trying to reassure myself.

"But we found his scent all the way out by camp," Dairka whimpered, quite pessimistically. "You never know."

I shifted uncomfortably and scented the air. "I don't smell anything."

She was quick to do the same. There was the smell of dead animals, of the fading fear of the still alive one, and of the grassland . . . but no Zeon, save for the smell resting in her memory. "Same . . ." Dairka's tail twitched, as her head lowered. She was still worried.

"We should probably get back to camp," I said.

Dairka nodded, and slowly started padding in that direction, keeping her wary stance.

I padded after her, unable to stop myself from glancing around occasionally as well.

Dairka didn't relax until they were finally in the midst of their camp. She let out a sigh of relief, sitting down the ground and curling her tail around her paws. "Okay . . . I think we're okay now, right?" she said.

"I hope so."

Dairka nodded, taking in a deep breath. "So . . . now what?"

(Ooh... love the av.

I thought for a second. "I dunno."

"Maybe . . . should we tell the leader?" she asked with a shudder.

((They don't even have one yet, do they? xD))

"Only that he's crossing the border," I decided. "We won't tell him/her that Zeon's our father, right?"

Dairka nodded. That would probably be the best idea. "Right," she replied.

"Okay. Let's do it, then."

Dairka nodded, and headed towards the leaders' den.

I padded after her.

"Hello? _____?" she called into the den, a bit quietly. Of course, though, in place of the underscores was the leader's name.
