God it’s so Painful, when something’s so close….

Holly was saved from replying when a yellow something in the corner of her eye pulled into the school parking lot; a school bus!

"Aw, what a shame," said Holly sarcastically. "So many witnesses. That bite would be a little difficult now."

"Believe it or not, I had figured that much out for myself," Holly retorted. She glanced slightly over at the bus. Jeez, this was the perfect time for some kids to come out!

"I'm pretty sure someone will notice if you disappear into thin air, anyway."

For some reason, Holly felt a little bad about blurting that out, even though Becca had wanted to kill her just moments before. Thinking quickly, she said, "Oh, sorry. I've just been absorbed in this new book I'm reading! I think everyone's a vampire. Heh, silly, isn't it?"

"Oh, hee hee, yeah. I love fantasy books," she said. While that was true, Holly reflected, Tyler probably thought she was a big nerd now. Great first impression. "Oh, well, it's nice to meet you, Tyler. I'm Holly."

"Oh, er, yeah, I really like it anyway," Holly improvised. Actually, she hadn't read Twilight in about a year. It was a good thing Tyler didn't care for it, because she never would've been able to carry out a proper conversation. Deciding to change the subject, she added, "So, how was your summer vacation?"

"Childhood friends! That's so nice," commented Holly. "I moved here when I was ten, so I'm not in touch with any of my old pals anymore. But I'm sorry to hear your summers weren't great."

((Sure. I was waiting for a good time, but it doesn't really matter.))

An irritated James turned the corner, and walked into the school parking lot. His mom had been ranting about something, and made him miss the bus. So then she'd offered to drive him, but she was taking too long to get ready. Walking to school was actually faster than he'd expected, and he didn't think anyone would be here this early. But James was suprised when he saw two of his classmates, Tyler and Holly, as well another girl standing on the front steps.
"Hey, Tyler!" he called out to the other junior boy.

Becca's bottom lip twitched. Her eyes went red again as she stared at James. Urg. He was taking her best friend away.

"My mom me walk here this morning," he told Tyler. Pointing at the bottom of his jeans, which were soaking wet and muddy, he added, "I wouldn't've minded, except our neighbor's dog chased me into a mud puddle!"

Holly never liked James very much, as he tended to be somewhat annoying, but she was glad he came. More witnesses. Less chance of a vampire-werewolf clash.

Becca stared at the two having a conversation, her eyes wide. "Er...I'll see you later Tyler."

"Oh, heck no. She's really lazy, most of the time," James said, rolling his eyes. "It's kinda good, though, because she doesn't care when I go out. Which means I can go out whenever I want!"

Holly really wanted to leave, too, seeing as she was just standing awkwardly as the two boys talked, but she knew she was safer here. If she left, there was a chance Becca would find her, and then she'd be forced to fight the vampire.

"Don't worry, Tyler's smart, he'll pass his exams," offered James, who was actually very eager to play Xbox. He'd gotten a whole lot better over the summer.

Tyler sighed. "Fine. Are you gonna eat this time?" "Yes!" "No you're not." "Yes, I am. Now deal with it."

James shrugged. He kinda remembered Tyler mentioning this girl before....Bettie? No...Bertha...? Becca! Ah, that was it. He chuckled a little bit. It was cute the way they bickered with each other; kinda like an old, married couple. He decided it would be best not to point that out, though.
"Ah, well, we'll play it another time, I guess."
