I bit my lip nervously, and Fang's expression changed slightly; he was worried. "Hear something?" I asked silently, knowing only he could hear me. A half-millimeter move of his head told me all I needed to know. "Up and away!" I leaped straight into the air, Fang beside me.

I jumped into the air and extended my wings. Kara was in my arms. It hurts her wings to fly.

Fang grabbed my hand and pulled me off west, towards the rest of the flock. "What about the others?" I asked quietly, still holding on to his hand. "If they follow, they follow."

Fang landed in the cave, and Angel giggled. I realized I was still holding his hand and blushed. Fang rolled his eyes again, but didn't let go. I really didn't want to let go... Fang's hand was warm, and I was freezing and I had just realized I was shivering violently. Fang sighed, pulling his jacket off and wrapping it around my shoulders gently.

"Lie down; I'll take first watch." Fang murmured, watching me shiver. I obeyed without question, making a pillow out of my arms and falling asleep under his jacket.
I slowly smoothed her hair away from her face. Even in sleep, she seemed tense and worrisome, as if something might get her... which could happen. I left my hand on her cold forehead as I watched with anxious eyes.

I set Kara down and took off my jacket. I sat down and picked her back up. I covered us both with my coat and went to sleep.

It was nearly time to change watches, but Amanda was finally relaxed and calm, almost normal. I wasn't tired- I would let her sleep.

"Mfluhm," Amanda murmured, turning over. "Fang..."

Did she just say Fang?

Amanda's eyes blinked open, and she sighed. "I'll take watch." She muttered, shaking her hair back. "You can sleep." Knowing that she would win the argument, I lied down next to her, still wondering.
Why had Amanda whispered my name?

Amanda sat cross-legged on the cave floor, drawing patterns in the dust. She sneezed as the dust rose, and I supressed a sigh. She was so much older than all of us in a way. Amanda knew what it was like to feel weak and vunerable, and most of us didn't. She figeted slightly, clearly sensing me watching her. "Fang, please sleep." She murmured, rubbing out the drawing and coughing harshly as the dust reached her face. "I can do the watch by myself." I watched with cautious eyes, but Amanda seemed fine, if not for the cold. Absolutly silently, I took my jacket from where she was sleeping and draped it around her shoulders. She smiled lightly. "Thanks." I nodded, lying down next to her. Before I closed my eyes, I could have sworn I watched her draw a heart...

"Uh..." I wasn't exactly sure what to do; my flock always fell asleep immediatly, because we seemed to always be tired. Fang sat up, and I glared at him. "Fang, it's my watch. You. Can. Sleep." I turned back to Samantha. "He just won't sleep."

"I'm sure nearly dying had an effect." Fang muttered, clearly trying to annoy me with his awake-ness. "Why don't you just take watch?" I sighed unhappily. "Happy to." Fang looked at me with an expression that looked normal, but I saw the gleam in his eyes. He was sorry. "I forgive you." I sighed, and he rolled his eyes. "Sleep, Amanda. You need it more than I do."

"She got swept away by a riptide." I explained as Amanda shot me the glare. She coughed harshly and sat next to me, and I inwardly rolled my eyes. "Sleep." I demanded, but she shook her head. "I can handle it." Amanda insisted, crossing her arms. I sighed and turned back to Samantha. "But we got her."

Amanda's head suddenly fell to my shoulder, her eyes closed, and I chuckled to myself, a rare occasion. I lifted her gently, so she could sleep more comfortably, but her head still rested on my shoulder.

I kept watch, glancing around ever so often. Amanda murmured my name again, and blinked twice. "Muh... Fang... it's my watch..." She said sleepily. "Amanda, you're tired. Sleep." She obeyed for once, her eyes drifting closed.

I got up and wandered aroud tired of lying down.

Amanda sneezed in her sleep, and I sighed. She was so much different from all of us- she got sick so much easier. I lied my hand on her forehead almost instintively, checking for a fever. It was low, but rising. I'd tell her when she woke up; Amanda needed sleep.
