"Sure," I said.

She grinned, and began trotting out in the general direction of the Makuu border.

I padded after her.

(Sooo... how's he gonna recognize them?)

((Hmm . . . maybe he's been secretly visiting them! In the middle of the night, when nobody knows . . .

Haha, he's a creeper if he has been. xD))

(No kidding. XD Umm... the plot was your idea, you choose!)

((I like my idea, then. ))

Dairka looked up at the sky as they went along.

She was an orphan; her mother had died when she was very young, and she'd never known her father. Where was he now, she wondered?

(Okay then. XD A "little" creepy, but...)

I lifted my head from the watering hole and spotted two figures coming towards the border. Judging by their size and the fact that they had no manes, they were both lionesses.

"Who are your parents?" Dairka randomly asked Nité, a hint of sorrow in her voice.

"I dunno."

She was surprised. "Really? I don't, either."

"Huh."

She nodded. "I never knew my dad, and the most I remember of my mom . . . well, is nothing. I was barely born when she abandoned me, out there." She waved her tail vaguely.

My eyes widened. "Same here!"

Dairka's eyebrows went up. "Wow. That's . . . sad, but pretty cool." She grinned.

"Very," I agreed.

She chuckled, then looked around. The landscape in their territory was pretty flat, so there wasn't that much to see. There was, of course, the occasional patch of grass or tree, but other than that . . .

"Want to go to the watering hole?"

"Sure," she agreed, smiling. It'd probably be more interesting around there. So Dairka turned, loping in the direction of the water.

I jogged after her.
The two lionesses were getting closer now.

Eventually Dairka started going faster and faster, until finally, she was running at full speed. She let out a laugh of delight, feeling the wind play with her fur, and listening to the rhythmic pounding of her paws on the dry ground.

I sped up to match her pace, not wanting to get left behind.

She lost her breath after a bit, and reluctantly slowed to a fast walk, panting. But her eyes were still sparkling with happiness. It didn't take much to cheer her up; after such a miserable life at first, even the smallest things were a joy to her now.

I slowed as well, for the first time noticing the figure on the other side of the watering hole.

Dairka noticed him a few seconds later, and her ears and tail perked. "Who's that?" she asked. Nité would probably know him if he was another Brei Pride member, right?

"I dunno. But he's on the Makuu side, so I assume he's in the Makuu pride."
