Chapter Eight
One of the strangest things I thought at the time of Jay was that every night, he would press against the bars of the cage and look out the small window that was on top of us. The window let in light from the moon and stars, casting a peaceful look on this facility.
“What are you doing?” I asked him, scooting over closer to what he was looking at.
“Oh, just the moon and the stars.” He looked back at me. “I believe that each star is the spirit of someone past.”
I nodded, and then looked up at the stars. “That’s a lot of spirits.”
He turned to look at me for a second, motioning me closer. I came, carefully weaving through the sleeping bodies of Autumn and Kayla.
“Liz…I want to tell you something that my uncle told me.” He lied down beside me. “He told me that everyone on this earth has an angel somewhere in heaven that is looking down on them. He told me that this angel only shows themselves in times of troubles.”
“Why aren't they here now,” I murmured, my voice now soft and quiet.
“I asked the same thing. He said it was because our true troubles are not yet to come.”
I leaned against his shoulder and looked at him with sparkling eyes. “Jay…you’ll never leave me right? We’re friends forever, right?”
He nodded. “Even if I do happen to die before you, I’ll be that angel that watches out for you.”
I curled up suddenly, digging my head into his side. “Well, if it’s possible to be an angel on earth I think you are one.”
As I drifted off to sleep, I could almost swear I saw him smirk at my last comment.

*cheer* That was an awesome chapter. x3 So sweet! Jay's a really deep fellow.
